Chapter 187 A Good Person's Life
Chapter 187 A Good Person's Life
Wen Ju'an said softly, "That's good!" Her voice was so soft that only she could hear it.
After dinner, Zhang Jianjun prepared to leave, and Wen Qinghua took out the keys to see him off. However, as soon as they left the yard, Wen Qinghua's car stalled. He started stalling repeatedly when he got nervous; the more nervous he became, the more likely he was to stall, and the more he stalled, the more nervous he became. There seemed to be no solution.
"I'll do it!" Zhang Jianjun gestured, indicating that they could take turns driving.
Wen Qinghua smiled awkwardly, got out of the driver's seat, and moved to the passenger seat.
Zhang Jianjun familiarized himself with the car's controls, and then smoothly got on the road, driving fast and steadily.
"Dr. Zhang drives so well!" Wen Qinghua was quite impressed; this person seemed to know everything!
Zhang Jianjun explained, "I think that being a doctor requires a steady mind and steady hands, which is not much different from driving a car."
"That's true."
Zhang Jianjun slowly parked the car in the airport pick-up and drop-off area, opened the car door and got out.
Zhang Jianjun patted the car roof and handed the keys back to Wen Qinghua. "Nice car!"
I returned to Sha Mao Lane around six o'clock in the afternoon, but there was an extra table in the house. Qiao Simei was doing her homework at the table.
"Qiao Simei, what are you up to? Why are you doing your homework in my house? And you even moved the table here?"
Qiao Simei looked up and saw Zhang Jianjun. "Brother Jun, you're back! My older brother suddenly started to care about my studies, but when I showed him the questions I didn't know, he explained them to me for a long time, but I still couldn't understand! So I came to you. Only you can explain things to me! My older brother said that I should follow you from now on."
Qiao Yicheng's exact words were, "Then go find Xiaojun! From now on, he's your older brother, so don't call me 'older brother' anymore!"
Qiao Yicheng's words hit Qiao Simei's sweet spot. Qiao Simei was still thinking about how to find an excuse to stay at Zhang Jianjun's place when Qiao Yicheng finished speaking. Qiao Simei quickly packed her things and moved to Zhang Jianjun's house.
"Alright! Which question don't you understand? I'll take a look." Zhang Jianjun moved a chair over and sat down next to him.
Qiao Simei stood up, took out tea leaves, and brewed a cup of tea for Zhang Jianjun. "Brother Jun, you just got back. Take a rest before you look at it! I'm not in a hurry."
Seeing Qiao Simei skillfully taking out tea leaves and brewing tea, Zhang Jianjun asked curiously, "How come you know my house so well?"
"You've been leaving early and coming home late all year. I often come to talk to Aunt Wu. I even know how many nails you have in your house!" Qiao Simei said with some pride. She was very good at pleasing people. She had been beautiful and delicate since childhood and was the most popular person in the neighborhood.
Zhang Jianjun took the teacup, feeling a little strange. It was his own home, but he was being treated like a guest. "Alright, I'm not tired. Let me look at your homework."
Qiao Simei reluctantly took out the problem that Qiao Yicheng hadn't explained clearly. Explaining problems was nowhere near as fun as chatting with Zhang Jianjun, but being with Zhang Jianjun made studying more bearable than facing her brother's sour face!
A week later, Wen Qinghua paid a visit.
"Teacher Wen, please come in!" Zhang Jianjun politely led Wen Qinghua into the living room. Qiao Simei served tea and water like a younger sister, being incredibly obedient!
Wen Qinghua took the teacup and looked at Qiao Simei with curiosity for a few more moments. "Thank you, Dr. Zhang. Your wife looks so young!"
Qiao Simei couldn't help but burst out laughing.
Zhang Jianjun waved his hand, "Teacher Wen, you misunderstood. This is Qiao Yicheng's younger sister, Qiao Simei. She's been doing her homework here recently, and I tutor her whenever I have a spare moment."
Wen Qinghua was a little embarrassed by his blunder, but having weathered many storms, his expression only showed a slight awkwardness before he quickly recovered. "Sorry, I misjudged! Haha. Dr. Zhang, when would you be free to give my father a follow-up appointment?"
Wen Qinghua had already consulted Zhang Jianjun, and the treatment didn't need to be continuous; once a week for acupuncture would suffice. Therefore, Principal Wen didn't want to be hospitalized, feeling it wouldn't be very meaningful. This meant they needed to treat Zhang Jianjun when he was available, as they couldn't let his work be disrupted.
"Let's wait two more days, until the weekend. For my first formal treatment, I need a more stable environment with better daylight."
Wen Qinghua got the information he wanted, chatted for a while, and then left.
…………
On the weekend, Zhang Jianjun arrived at Principal Wen's place early in the morning.
Zhang Jianjun didn't finish his first treatment until 1 p.m. The long period of intense concentration left him feeling quite tired.
Wen Qinghua invited Zhang Jianjun to lunch again.
The food was all bought from outside and brought back in takeout, including meat and fish. However, Zhang Jianjun didn't think it tasted very good, whether it was because the restaurant's cooking was bad or because the food had been sitting in the takeout containers for too long.
"Teacher Wen, what happened to your job? Did you get transferred back?"
"I quit my job at the school and found a job at the entertainment newspaper. I'll work there for a while and see what happens!" Wen Qinghua seemed very relaxed and didn't seem to care much about that enviable job.
Zhang Jianjun decided to change the subject. "That's good too. Didn't Sister Wen come back with you?" Wen Ju'an's mother was the second oldest child, with an older brother. Their older brother had a worse fate; he went to another place and disappeared without a trace, never to be found.
“She wants to stay in the capital, which is fine too. Big cities have convenient transportation and shopping. It’s just that it’s a bit inconvenient for my father and me to live together, so I’m thinking of finding a housekeeper to help us cook and do laundry.” It was clear that Wen Qinghua was not very satisfied. He thought his sister would come back with him to take care of their father.
Wen Qinghua suddenly looked up at Zhang Jianjun and said, "Hey, Dr. Zhang, you doctors come into contact with a lot of people. Do you have any recommendations?"
Zhang Jianjun laughed, "Well, there is someone I can recommend to you!"
At 2 PM, Zhang Jianjun arrived at Ma Suqin's house, but no one was home. He knocked on the neighbor's door, and a young woman in her sixties opened it. "Who are you looking for?"
“Auntie, I’m looking for Ma Suqin from that family. Do you know her? Where did she go?” Zhang Jianjun pointed to Ma Suqin’s tightly locked door.
The young old woman sized up Zhang Jianjun for a while. "During the two days Zhiyong left, was it you who gave it to Ma Suqin? I think I've seen you before!"
"Yes, it was me. I was here those two days."
The old lady finally felt relieved. "Ma Suqin went to work, saying she had to pay off her debts! That poor girl, she lost her son and is now burdened with debt! Many people say her house has bad feng shui, but it's not her house, so where does the feng shui come from! It's the landlord, Old Li, who has come to urge her to move out several times, saying that Ma Suqin has made his house unclean, and that Old Li..."
"Auntie, where did Ma Suqin go to work?" Zhang Jianjun interrupted the old lady's rambling and asked the key question.
The old lady wasn't annoyed by being interrupted; she seemed used to it, as if she was often interrupted. "She used to sell vegetables at the market over there. There was a period when she was hospitalized and couldn't go, so her stall was taken back. Now it seems she's found a loading and unloading job, oh yes, unloading flour! At that factory to the south."
Upon learning this, Zhang Jianjun thanked the old lady while backing away, saying, "Thank you, ma'am, please go back now! It's cold!"
"This child, he even knows to worry about me catching a cold, he's such a good person!" The young old lady looked at Zhang Jianjun with kindness in her eyes.
