Chapter 347 The Church of Angels
Chapter 347 The Church of Angels
When the kind person was introducing the sanctuary of the Angel Church, their face was full of piety. Coincidentally, the bell in the sanctuary rang at that moment, and the person immediately made a gesture of prayer.
Yan Xun simply looked at him, and at half the people in the city who were praying... until the bells stopped, and then the kind person told Yan Xun that when the church bells rang, something big usually happened.
She then told Yan Xun that the Angel Church could help those in need, and that Yan Xun could seek their help.
Upon hearing this, Yan Xun inquired about the location of the Angel Church.
The kind person immediately and cheerfully offered to take Yan Xun to the Angel Church.
“Recently, many people have come here from far away,” she told Yan Xun, “just to join the Angel Church.”
Yan Xun feigned curiosity, "Did they come here specifically to pray?"
She shook her head. "These people say they were inspired by dreams."
“You come from an outside city, so you must have heard about those things,” she said to Yan Xun. “In those cities, many people have suddenly grown wings.”
"Or perhaps a man suddenly becomes pregnant and claims that the fetus inside him is a sacred one."
She wrinkled her nose, looking somewhat disapproving. "Some people say they're monsters, and that rumor has spread throughout the city."
"Fortunately, the pastor told us that everything was normal."
"The end of the world is coming, and the world is choosing those who will enter the Kingdom of God."
"...Divine Kingdom?" Upon hearing this word, Yan Xun couldn't help but clench the angel's hand tightly.
The angel let out a small cry of pain.
The kind person immediately noticed him.
At this point, the angel's teeth had returned to the appearance of a normal human, and even when he opened his mouth to speak, no one could tell that he was strange.
The kind-hearted person noticed the bulge on his back, looked at him with concern, and then apologized, explaining that they meant no harm and simply wanted to ask if Yan Xun was facing any difficulties so that she might be able to help them.
Yan Xun showed a dejected expression, saying that her child had been like this since birth.
“I’ve heard that miracles can happen if you have faith in that angel,” he told the kind man. “That’s why I wanted to bring him along to try.”
The kind-hearted person immediately said that this was not a rumor, but true, and that miracles often happen when one believes in the white bone angel.
Yan Xun walked with her toward the Angel Church, and along the way he asked her what the Kingdom of God she mentioned was.
The kind person immediately explained that the Kingdom of God is the kingdom of all gods. According to the Church of Angels, as long as one sincerely believes in the Bone Angel, one can enter the Kingdom of God after death and enjoy bliss in the eternal Garden of Bones.
Yan Xun actually wanted to ask, doesn't the belief in the White Bone Angels sound very improper... like a cult?
The kind-hearted person seemed to see through Yan Xun's thoughts. She said that according to the teachings of the Angel Church, bones represent death, but also the rebirth of shedding the past physical body, which is a necessary means to enter the Kingdom of God.
Yan Xun: "..."
As they spoke, Yan Xun noticed that the sanctuary was right in front of him.
Upon seeing this, the kind-hearted person immediately told Yan Xun that he could directly seek help from the pastor of the Angel Church.
After saying that, he waved and left.
Yan Xun stood on the street with the angel for a while, and finally led him into a place that looked like a church.
A number of believers had gathered here, and Yan Xun even saw several people with wings... They looked at Yan Xun curiously.
A man dressed like a pastor approached Yan Xun immediately upon noticing her, seemingly wanting to ask if she needed help.
Yan Xun didn't speak, but simply took off the angel's coat—
The wings, which had been compressed all morning, were finally able to breathe and suddenly unfurled the moment Yan Xun took off his coat.
“I found a child,” Yan Xun said succinctly. “He has wings, and I think he might be related to your Angel Church.”
He grabbed his coat with one hand and pushed the angel forward with the other.
“I think you should be able to take good care of him.” Yan Xun looked at the stunned pastor and the others. “I have urgent business to attend to, so I’ll be going now.”
He was about to turn and slip away when he noticed the angel grabbing his coat.
"Mom," the angel called out again.
“…I’m not your mother,” Yan Xun said, unable to bear it any longer.
The pastor coughed and stepped forward slightly to stop Yan Xun. "I know this might be a little hard for you to accept."
He seemed to truly regard Yan Xun as the mother of an angel.
"But this is definitely not a bad thing."
"In fact..."
He looked at the angel with a fanatical fervor in his eyes, "The Holy Embryo we have been searching for has appeared."
Yan Xun pushed the angel forward a little more. "Okay, the holy fetus you've been looking for is here."
“I’m in a hurry…” He glanced at the non-existent watch on his wrist. “I have to leave now.”
But the angel held onto the hem of his clothes tightly, showing no intention of letting Yan Xun escape.
Yan Xun glanced at Mission 3 and found it was still in progress. He had no idea what he needed to accomplish to bring Ellie's child alive to the Angel Church.
We can't really expect him to watch an angel grow up...?
He desperately called out to the main system in his mind, but received no response. It seemed that he had started to play dead again.
"Hehe." Yan Xun tried to pry the angel's hands off, but found that the angel had torn holes in the hem of his clothes, and he didn't know how much force the angel had used.
The pastor beside him naturally saw this as well, and coughed, saying, "He may need a mother."
“I’ll say it again, I’m not his mother,” Yan Xun couldn’t help but retort.
The pastor reassured him, "This is not unusual here."
"Many people have encountered this."
He knew they were talking about a man getting pregnant... Yan Xun expressionlessly lifted the hem of his shirt to show them his lower abdomen, "No! Scars! What! Is! There! Any! Scars!"
"I'll say it again, I found him on the roadside."
The pastor looked knowing, but Yan Xun didn't bother to figure out what he was imagining. The angel continued to look up at him.
"Never mind," Yan Xun said.
“Since you say he is the Holy Embryo…” he looked at the priest, “I have heard a lot of rumors about the Church of Angels along the way, and I am very curious as to why he is different.”
“I’ve seen those rumors, they say those people have a fleshy ball covered in feathers inside their stomachs.”
He glanced at the angel tugging at his clothes, "but he looks like a child."
"A child who grew up a bit too fast."
He told the pastor about how he discovered the angel, but omitted some details.
Upon hearing this, the pastor declared that this was a test from a false god.
He seemed to be saying this intentionally to the believers around him—that the strange occurrences were a conspiracy by false gods to distract from the true birth of the Holy Child.
“When the true holy embryo is born, the conspiracy of the false god will only collapse,” he told Yan Xun.
Of course, Yan Xun didn't believe it at all. He nodded perfunctorily, wanting to see what else the other party had to say, but the pastor quickly changed the subject, saying that he could take Yan Xun to the church to see Vincent.
“Vincent?” Yan Xun looked at the pastor. “Is he a very important person?”
“He was the first person to receive the revelation,” the pastor told Yan Xun.
Vincent was located on the top floor of the sanctuary. When Yan Xun arrived with the angel, the first thing he saw was the white skeletal angel sculpture in the room.
The room was filled with a familiar floral essential oil scent, almost identical to the one I had smelled in the White House in Conrad.
Vincent looked to be around 40 years old, with fine wrinkles around his eyes. He wore a monocle and immediately gave Yan Xun a kind smile when he saw her.
Yan Xun immediately understood that this was a business smile for believers.
Yan Xun then pushed the angel forward, saying, "I found him by the roadside."
"There was a corpse next to him."
"He crawled out of that person's stomach."
Vincent gestured for Yan Xun to calm down. Behind him were some tea and snacks, three cups in total, apparently prepared for the three of them.
“We have plenty of time,” he said to Yan Xun. “You can slowly recount what happened.”
Yan Xun shrugged, walked to the dining table, pulled out a chair, and sat down.
The angel seemed to follow him around like a little sidekick, never leaving his side, and even though the chair was less than 20 centimeters away from Yan Xun, it showed no intention of sitting down.
He grabbed Yan Xun's clothes with one hand and the armrest of the chair with the other, then looked warily at Vincent across from him.
“He seems very dependent on you,” Vincent said.
He sat opposite Yan Xun and the angel, poured them hot tea, and prepared milk and sugar cubes for them to help themselves.
Yan Xun casually put two sugar cubes in. The angel stood beside him, looking at Yan Xun expectantly, as if hoping that Yan Xun would feed him a few.
Yan Xun: "..."
“Your spot is next door,” he said to the angel.
The angel shook its head.
He grew so fast that the clothes he was wearing, which were supposed to fit him, didn't seem to fit him well.
His platinum blonde hair was draped messily over his shoulders, making him look more like a little homeless man. He didn't speak, but simply opened his mouth, indicating that Yan Xun should feed him.
Yan Xun was about to say that you shouldn't eat too much candy at your age, but then he remembered that the other person wasn't human at all and there was no need to care about that.
So, without any hesitation, he stuffed the three sugar cubes into the angel's mouth.
"Is that enough, child?"
The angel puffed out his cheeks and nodded vigorously, indicating that he had had enough.
Vincent, who was sitting across from them, watched their interaction for a while and said, "The Holy Embryo is very dependent on you."
“You said when you found him, there was only one dead person next to him,” Vincent probed. “But his current appearance doesn’t seem to be something that can be explained by someone who was only a few days old.”
Yan Xun gave him a look that said, "You're asking me? Who should I ask?"
“Shouldn’t you be the ones who know this best?” he looked at Vincent. “He’s become like this in just a few days.”
"When I found him, he was just a baby."
Vincent immediately waved his hand, indicating that he was not questioning Yan Xun, but was simply curious about how Yan Xun had managed to do it.
“The growth of the Holy Embryo is actually very slow,” he told Yan Xun.
"Who said that?" Yan Xun asked. "Your god..." He glanced at the skeletal angel in the room, "He told you?"
Vincent didn't seem to mind his somewhat offensive words. "Yes."
He looked at the angel, “Because it is a holy fetus, it grows extremely slowly.”
"It is very possible that many years will pass, and we will have grown old, while He will still look like a child."
He looked at Yan Xun, "That's why I'm so curious."
"Why does the Holy Embryo grow so rapidly?"
Vincent leaned forward slightly. "Can you tell me?"
"I don't know," Yan Xun said.
"Perhaps it's because he ate some food?" Yan Xun said, looking at the angel chewing on a sugar cube.
What food?
"What I can buy?" Yan Xun said. "Milk? Candy? Chocolate?"
"Is that all?" Vincent asked.
“That’s all,” Yan Xun said.
"Perhaps he's a bit special."
While giving Vincent a perfunctory answer, Yan Xun already had the answer in his heart—because of Lan Jin.
In the Evil Spirit Sea instance, he absorbed the blue gold. Although most of it was used to summon the Sun God, a small portion still modified his physique, making him no longer a simple "human".
What allows angels to grow rapidly is this blood mixed with blue-gold power.
Vincent didn't seem to believe it, but he knew he couldn't force Yan Xun to reveal more of the truth. He poured some milk into a teacup and said, "I've heard of you."
Yan Xun had no idea he was so famous. Just as he was about to say something, the angel beside him tugged at his sleeve, indicating that she wanted the sugar cube from earlier.
Yan Xun handed him the sugar jar.
The angel didn't take it, but just pointed to his wide-open mouth.
Yan Xun threw in three more sugar cubes, and the angel immediately puffed out his cheeks with satisfaction. He then glanced warily at Vincent, clinging tightly to Yan Xun and unwilling to leave.
Vincent could clearly see the actions of the one-winged brat opposite him, and he felt a little impatient.
Damn angels, damn Ryan, damn the Church of Angels.
He cursed inwardly, but outwardly maintained a charming demeanor, saying, "You are Ryan, the great detective."
Yan Xun put down the candy jar in his hand. "You investigated me?"
“There was no investigation,” Vincent said. “I just ran into some people you know.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a boy who looked to be in his teens walked out from around the corner of the room.
Yan Xun recognized him at a glance; he was the newspaper boy who was preparing to move to the south.
He was neatly dressed, and his gaze toward Vincent was full of admiration. When his eyes fell on Yan Xun, he nodded as if to say hello.
"You and your family have all joined the Angel Church?" Yan Xun saw the newsboy's worshipful gaze and guessed that the other party had already joined the church—after all, he had seen too many people with such expressions along the way.
The newsboy nodded vigorously. He wasn't very old, and although he had joined the Angel Church, he still retained his former carefree personality. "Mr. Ryan, I didn't expect you to be here too."
His eyes were filled with reverence as he looked at Yan Xun, "I never imagined you would be the Holy Embryo..."
"Stop." Yan Xun gestured for a stop, refusing to hear that word from the newsboy.
“Mother,” the newsboy said.
Yan Xun: "..."
He suddenly felt a sense of despair; he really didn't want to know just how widespread this ridiculous rumor had spread!
