Chapter 1018
Chapter 1018
This wave was more violent than any previous one. The wave was like a giant hand grabbing the bow of the ship and lifting the entire cruise ship almost vertically.
All movable objects in the cockpit instantly rushed to the stern. Mu Mu lost his balance and crashed into the control console.
"Hold on tight!" Qi Mingyu roared, his left hand tightly gripping the joystick, his right hand reaching out to grab Mu Mu's arm and pulling him towards him.
The two men's bodies swayed violently in the tilted cabin. Qi Mingyu's back hit the metal cabinet, and he gasped in pain, but he gritted his teeth and didn't let go.
He saw the sea outside the porthole right above his head. The gray-blue waves seemed to be about to swallow up the cockpit in the next second. All he could hear was the roar of the waves and the creaking sound of the ship under pressure.
"Brother-in-law! The boat is going to capsize!" Mu Mu's voice trembled, and the blood from his forehead mixed with sweat flowed into his eyes, making him feel astringent and painful.
Qi Mingyu, however, remained remarkably calm, his gaze fixed on the spirit level gauge below the console. He watched the red needle sway wildly in the "dangerous" zone, but it never crossed the final red line. "The hull has been reinforced with boiling point alloy, so it should be able to hold up!"
Just as he finished speaking, the cruise ship suddenly sank, as if being pulled down by something, and the two men fell heavily to the ground.
Mu Mu thought the boat was going to sink, so he closed his eyes for two seconds, only to find that the shaking gradually subsided.
The bow of the ship slowly retreated, and the sea surface returned to the bottom of the porthole. The huge wave that could overturn an ordinary ship was actually withstood by this cruise ship.
"Cough... cough..." Mu Mu climbed up from the deck, soaking wet. Her arms were scratched several times, but she ignored the pain and looked at Qi Mingyu immediately: "Brother-in-law, are you okay?"
Qi Mingyu had just stood up, his back aching badly, but he shook his head and his eyes suddenly fell on the sea in the distance: "Look over there!"
Mu Mu looked in the direction he pointed. The black container that was on the crest of the wave was now floating with the gentle current, only a few hundred meters away from them.
His expression froze. This was the container he had just seen!
Why did you appear here out of nowhere?
"Let's go, drag it over here first!" Qi Mingyu held the console to relax. The dull pain in his back made him frown, but it did not affect his movements at all.
Mu Mu nodded: "Okay!"
The two of them quickly divided the work, with Qi Mingyu staying in the cockpit to operate the manual steering wheel, using the residual inertia to adjust the direction of the ship.
Mu Mu grabbed the spare towing rope on the deck and ran quickly to the side of the ship.
The anchor hook at the end of the towing rope was heavy. Mu Mu swung his arms, aimed at the lifting ring of the container and threw it with all his strength.
The first time the force went astray, the anchor hook scraped against the wall of the box and fell into the sea;
The second time he held his breath, stared at the target swaying with the waves, exerted force on his wrist, and the anchor hook "clicked" and firmly hooked the ring.
"It's hooked!" Mu Mu shouted towards the cockpit, then bent down and pulled the rope. After confirming that it was stable, he began to turn the manual winch on the deck.
The creaking sound of the gears turning was particularly clear on the open sea, and the container was slowly pulled towards the cruise ship.
When they got closer, they discovered that the container was unusually new.
The blue-black paint on the outer wall is almost unworn, the anti-collision strips on the corners are intact, and even the traces of seawater immersion are very faint, as if it had just fallen from a cargo ship.
"This box looks wrong." Zhou Jianghai walked onto the deck holding the railing, while Zhong Tiyun followed behind, supporting the pale Zhou Shuwan.
It has been so long since the end of the world, even the "fire" that was left behind would have been soaked by the sea water and was unrecognizable.
But how could such a brand new container appear here?
Zhou Shuwan looked around, but there was not a single person on the endless sea!
However, this is not absolute.
Because the sea is the most deceptive to people's eyes!
Qi Mingyu looked at her: "Wanwan, what do you say?"
Zhou Shuwan shook his head, his expression very serious: "We have to be careful!"
Mu Mu understood what she meant in an instant and said immediately: "Sister, do you mean to say... that you suspect there are other humans in this sea area?"
Before he could finish his words, Zhou Jianghai and Zhong Tiyun, who were on this floor, turned pale.
In such an unfamiliar sea, it is hard to tell whether it is a blessing or a misfortune to meet survivors!
There are too few of them. If the other party comes with bad intentions, they will definitely be far short of military force.
Zhou Shuwan comforted her parents: "It's okay, Dad, Mom, don't worry too much. This is just a guess!
Because the outer shell of this container is so new, it makes people suspect that it just fell off the ship and didn’t get here for a long time after being soaked!
Zhou Jianghai and Zhong Tiyun both looked at the sea around them, as if they wanted to see the wrecked ship from the distant sea.
Naturally, no one found anything.
"Come on, open it and look inside."
Qi Mingyu found a crowbar and inserted it into the gap of the container door. Mu Mu and Zhou Jianghai stepped forward and worked together to press down the end of the crowbar.
With a loud "clang", the heavy door of the box was pried open, and a dry smell hit me in the face.
Everyone looked over and was stunned.
The box did not contain the expected food, fuel or medicine, but instead a cabinet full of neatly stacked books.
Hardcover classics, thick professional reference books, and picture albums are stacked tightly together. Each one is wrapped in a transparent waterproof plastic cover, and even the edges of the pages are free of wrinkles caused by moisture.
Mu Mu casually pulled out a book. The publisher's logo was printed on the plastic cover. The smell of ink mixed with the fragrance of paper was particularly bright in the salty sea breeze.
"How could it be a book..." Mu Mu's voice was filled with disappointment. He pinched the spine of the book and turned two pages. It was full of densely packed text. Now even survival became a problem. These books were of no use at all.
So many books!
It should have been preserved before the end of the world!
Qi Mingyu didn't say anything, but squatted down and carefully checked the inside of the container.
The inside of the box wall is covered with a layer of silver heat-insulating and moisture-proof film, and the bottom is padded with thick foam board. It is obviously designed specifically to protect fragile or moisture-sensitive goods.
"The fact that the books are so well preserved means that this box was in the water very recently and is extremely well sealed." He stood up and glanced out to sea. "Either there's a wrecked freighter nearby, or there's a similar container storage area hidden on the seabed."
This confirmed Zhou Shuwan's previous guess.
"Then what should we do?" Zhou Jianghai asked.
Qi Mingyu looked around, thought for a moment, and said, "Let's try to look around to see if there are any other ships!"
If it's a shipwreck, that's all the better!
There might be some fuel they need on board!
Since there are containers, the fuel must be well preserved.
But you may also encounter survivors with malicious intentions and ulterior motives!
