"Did you see that?" Matt walked in from the doorway, put down his coat, and looked at Schiller, who was sitting at the table eating. "Construction has started over at the volcano. Eric has taken charge. It's quite a sight."
“I only care about the quality of the hot springs.” Schiller cut a piece of steak. “I heard the underground hot springs there are very hot, which sounds like a nice place, but it certainly can’t compare to the World Tree.”
“That’s not necessarily true,” Matt said, shaking his head. “It’s said that there are sulfur caves near the volcano, and the natural sulfur hot springs have high health benefits. As long as the water temperature can be adjusted to a suitable level, it would definitely be an excellent place for recuperation.”
Schiller raised an eyebrow at him. Matt sat down opposite him, placed his hands on the table, leaned forward, and said, "I think you've also realized that this island is exceptionally blessed. Don't you have any thoughts on this?"
“You know, because of Tony’s illness, I lost all my ambitions. But even initially, I didn’t intend to do anything to this island.”
“What are you thinking?” Matt said. “I mean, why not open a sanatorium on this island?”
"Are you serious?" Schiller said, somewhat surprised. "This island is hostile to ordinary people. Even Tony fell ill. Who would dare to come here for treatment?"
"But isn't it said that the flower of Krakya can cure diseases? If one can ignore the negative effects after taking the flower of Krakya and come here often, then it would be an excellent tourist and health resort."
"You're the one who wants to come over often, aren't you?" Schiller said with a smile.
"To be honest, Erica and I haven't had any alone time in ages. If anyone's willing to help take care of the kids, we'd like to find a quiet place to relax for a few days. Clarkia would be great, much better than those popular tourist spots on Earth."
“Moreover,” Matt said, tapping the table lightly, “there must be quite a few people in the multiverse who think the same way. When you desperately want to escape, even Mars isn’t far enough. Only by hiding far away in another universe can you relax. Clarkia is a good place to escape the world.”
"If you open a sanatorium here, you become a middleman and can partially control who comes to this paradise. It's a kind of network of connections that benefits both the universe and the sanatorium's business."
“You have a point,” Schiller said. “New York’s nursing homes have become de facto mental hospitals because of community obligations; the patients and those receiving treatment can’t coexist. It’s time to find a good place and open a real nursing home.”
"Haven't you thought of this before?"
“I originally intended to look within our own universe,” Schiller said. “I think our universe also has a Krakia, it just hasn’t been found yet. If I could find it first, the whole island would be mine, why would I need to depend on others?”
“I see,” Matt said. “Now that you mention it, I also think our universe’s is better. Just pretend I didn’t say anything.”
“No.” Schiller shook his head. “Your suggestion makes sense, because if we use islands from our own universe, more people from other universes will come, and there might even be people from other worlds. Nick will have a lot of headaches, and the workload of the other people stationed on Earth will increase dramatically. It’s just too troublesome.”
"That's really strange. You actually find it troublesome? You probably wish everyone would come to you and cause you some trouble, right?" Matt exclaimed in amazement.
“You’ve been too busy lately; it’s been a long time since we’ve had a drink together,” Schiller said with a smile. “I’ve long since reformed.”
"Come on," Matt said, scoffing. "I think Tony's illness just scared you. You'll be back to your old self in a couple of days."
“That’s not wrong,” Schiller said. “Actually, I knew beforehand that this island might have an impact on ordinary people, but Tony isn’t exactly an ordinary person either, considering he has such a large reactor in his chest. So, based on my estimation, he would be fine, which is why I came with him.”
"Then how did he get sick?" Matt asked, somewhat curiously.
"The main reason is that he was too tired recently," Schiller said, taking a sip of juice. "Being with Morgan was always stressful for him. After relieving that stress, he inevitably experienced some symptoms of weakened immunity due to the sudden relaxation of his tense mind. In addition, the temperature dropped sharply on the stormy night, which caused him to catch a cold."
"Is being with Morgan stressful?" Matt keenly observed this, saying, "How could it be stressful?"
Did you feel any pressure when you were looking for a school for Jack?
“That’s all due to the pressures of reality,” Matt said. “To put it bluntly, if I were a billionaire, I wouldn’t need to be so picky and agonizing over these choices.”
“Tony naturally has his own pressures,” Schiller said. “He wants to be a good father so badly that he’s afraid of doing something wrong or saying something wrong, so the pressure is naturally immense.”
“It sounds…” Matt paused to think for a moment, then said, “a little unnatural.”
“Love is natural, but communication skills need to be learned.” Schiller sighed softly. “All I can say is that Helen has changed him a lot and given him some experience. Otherwise, dealing with little Morgan would only be more troublesome.”
"How so?"
“Helen is naturally easygoing, and she has more than one father, Stark. She gets along well with Loki and Thor, just like me. Besides, she's different from humans, and she can take good care of herself. Except for the very beginning, Tony doesn't need to be fully involved. On the contrary, participating in Helen's growth will allow him to learn a lot.”
“Little Morgan is different. Human babies are too fragile, and little Morgan is the kind of child who is more difficult to raise. Tony is already under a lot of pressure, and this child is very smart. Not only is she intelligent, but she also inherited her father’s sensitivity to emotions. If you are not careful with your approach, she may overthink things. It’s a miracle that she has been raised to this extent. It’s hard to imagine how much Pepper and Tony have sacrificed.”
Matt nodded in empathy, saying, "Little Jack is already quite easy to take care of, a very well-behaved child, but he still gave Erica and me quite a bit of trouble when he was little. There was a time when I even considered going to see you for treatment."
"Then why didn't you come?"
"Of course it's because your consultation fees are too expensive. I can't add any more pressure to my current situation," Matt said irritably. "It's a good thing I didn't go to you, otherwise little Jack might not be able to afford to go to school now."
“You’re earning interstellar currency now,” Schiller retorted. “Everyone knows how powerful Murdoch is in the interstellar courts, leaving more than a dozen lawyers from the three great empires speechless. Stop complaining about being poor.”
“Sigh, it seems you still don’t quite understand the legal profession,” Matt shook his head and said. “You have no idea how difficult the lawyers from those three great empires are. If it weren’t for my human backing, I would have been assassinated long ago. I deserve whatever money I’m paid.”
The two chatted for a while. Soon after, Blink came over to inform them that the mutant arena was about to start and asked if they wanted to go.
"Are you going?" Matt asked. "I'm not going. I can't see anything, and although I can sense some things, it's not very interesting. I asked Eric for some files to see if I can get around the sanctions through legal means."
“I’m not going either,” Schiller said. “A bunch of Omega kids are always wandering around the earth. Haven’t they had enough of seeing mutants fighting? I have to take care of Tony. If he has another nightmare, I’ll have to go into his childhood shows to solve the puzzles.”
“Let’s stay here for a while,” Matt said. “We’ll go over there when the results are out and it’s time to eat. And we definitely can’t miss the hot springs.”
The two agreed not to watch the arena battles. In reality, there wasn't much to see; it was just mutants using their mutant abilities to fight, and because there were clear strengths and weaknesses between the mutant abilities, it looked a bit like a Pokémon battle, where who went into battle and how they fought were all predetermined.
The only somewhat interesting part was when Apocalypse appeared at the end to become the champion, allowing other mutants to challenge him. However, the vast majority of mutants could not defeat Apocalypse; only a few of them were recognized by the Original Mutant.
Finally, the four finalists and the mutants recognized by Apocalypse are exempt from participating in the construction of the hot springs and can go back to rest after their meal. The others will need to help build the hot spring baths before they can use them.
After the ring ended, Matt and Schiller took Stark out for dinner. Although Stark was still a bit weak, he really didn't want to stay indoors, and he didn't want to drag others down with him and miss the group activity, so he forced himself to go.
The good news is that the food was delicious. With fresh ingredients delivered by S.H.I.E.L.D., the chefs were able to showcase their skills, serving French, Italian, and Mexican dishes in turn, creating a feast for the eyes, nose, and palate.
The bad news is that Stark couldn't eat anything, only had some soup and a piece of bread, and then fell asleep after returning home. He had another fever in the middle of the night, but it subsided quickly, and he still felt weak when he woke up the next day.
What forced him to go out the next day was even better news: Iron Man from the main universe was also missing. To confirm that the guy was truly gone, Stark even forced himself to eat a lot and then went out for a walk.
"Hahahaha... He's definitely sick too... cough cough cough... His health can't possibly be better than mine." Stark lay on the sofa, his voice hoarse. "But he's not as strong as me, he's probably already gone back to his hometown. Hahahaha..."
Steve sighed helplessly. Stark just couldn't shake his habit of making fun of his own kind, but since the other Starks were the same, there was no point in forcing him to change.
“Alright, patient,” Steve said. “Take your medicine now.”
"Medicine?" Stark said, somewhat puzzled. "I'm no longer feverish, so I don't need to take fever reducers."
“This is traditional Chinese medicine.” Steve handed him the cup and said, “It’s from the supplies sent by S.H.I.E.L.D., and it seems to be able to treat colds. I asked them, and they said it’s made of pure herbal ingredients and has no antibiotics, so you can drink it without worry.”
Stark looked at the glass with some suspicion. It contained a light brown liquid that tasted fine, but to Stark it looked rather suspicious.
"You shouldn't be so inhumane as to take advantage of a sick person, right?" Although he asked this, Stark was clearly not very convinced.
Steve was so angry he laughed. He said, "Drink it or don't, I heard it can prevent colds. If you don't drink it, I will."
That's just how Stark is; if someone tries to take it from him, he'll drink it without hesitation. He picked up the cup, not caring whether it was hot or not, and put it in his mouth. Luckily, it wasn't too hot, and he gulped it down, wiped his mouth, and said, "It tastes like a hot Americano with lots of sugar. Hopefully, it'll actually work."
At that moment, Schiller walked in, carrying a glass of liquid. He placed it in front of Stark and said, "When Stephen sent the S.M.A.S. agents back to China, he also prescribed you some traditional Chinese medicine. Drink it while it's hot."
"But I just... well, it's okay to drink a little more of these little drinks."
Stark picked up the cup and started gulping it down. The next second, with a "pfft," a mouthful of dark brown liquid was sprayed out.
"Why the hell is it so miserable?!"
