Chapter 4301 Body of Steel (Part Six)

Lex Luthor paced back and forth in his office. He was waiting for news. He had indeed worked with that woman a few times. She was a competent middleman, handling some dirty work for him. But this was the first time he'd put them on this kind of errand.

Hopefully, they'll succeed. They'd better succeed. The dark thoughts swirling in Lex's mind were almost materializing. If they succeeded this time, perhaps…

The phone beeped again. Lex rushed over and grabbed it. Before he could even read the alert, a deafening explosion rang out. He turned and watched in horror as a massive explosion rocked the sky above Luther Manor.

"Damn it!" he cursed through gritted teeth.

Then he immediately realized that this was the same thief from last night who, having failed to steal from the house, had resorted to burglary. What magic did this gem possess that made them go to such lengths?!

Unfortunately, the item wasn't in the manor. It wasn't even with him. While the gem was important, the clues in the murals were far more crucial. So he would have to wait here for news.

Above Luther Manor, Diana watched her masterpiece with satisfaction. She hadn't actually attacked the manor; she had simply used her divine power to blast a hilltop apart, making it appear as if the manor had been attacked.

Before that, she even punched the vault door. That's how you trigger the security alarm. Seeing the commotion, the other party knew she was determined to get it. If the item was really there, they would definitely try to move it.

Diana was somewhat disappointed after waiting for a while and no one coming. It seemed the item really wasn't at the manor. Could it be at Luther Mansion?

She targeted Luther Group as her primary target, not because she had any personal grudge against Luther, but simply because Luther was geographically closer to her. If she couldn't find any leads with Luther, she would have no choice but to go on a business trip to investigate Wayne Group.

Diana drove up to the Luther Group building and found a spot. After staring for a while, she realized she couldn't see anything. She thought for a moment, and it seemed she had seen a news report where Lex Luther was being interviewed in his office, which had a floor-to-ceiling window.

Diana slipped to the rooftop of another building. Finding the angle still a bit off, she jumped to yet another rooftop. This time, she was finally able to see the floor-to-ceiling windows and, with her demigod-like vision, saw Lex Luthor himself.

She could tell Lex Luthor was anxious. Instinctively, she felt she'd probably found the right place. But then, Lex started making phone calls, and Diana realized something was wrong. She read the word "kidnapping" in Lex's lips.

Diana's heart skipped a beat. She suddenly realized that even a powerful dragon can't suppress a local snake. MI6, the Royal Family—they were no match for the Luther Group on the East Coast of America. If Luther had indeed bought the snake's tail, he would never let them take it back so easily.

"Damn it," Diana cursed, rushing downstairs. She took out the business card she'd received from Schiller and dialed the number, but there was no answer. Her heart sank.

She began to regret getting involved. She knew perfectly well that neither MI6 nor the Luther Group were innocent. Even the businessman had concealed too much. But she also knew she had to do it. Being targeted by an intelligence organization would bring endless trouble, and she didn't want to incur the wrath of the petty British.

Picking up her phone, Diana chose to call the police. She identified Schiller as her friend, saying he was missing, and emphasized his identity as a British businessman. But she didn't really have much hope. American police have a history of being quite active in their inaction.

She got into the car and thought it over carefully. The other person's clothes, demeanor, and mannerisms didn't suggest they were short of money at all. Diana looked at the business card again; there was no address. This meant the person didn't own a house in the area, so they must be staying at a hotel. The best hotel in the Metropolitan was the Luther Hotel.

Diana couldn't help but wipe her face. She should have reminded him then and there that not many people on the East Coast could afford a snake's tail, and Luther was one of them. Staying at his hotel was like walking into a trap.

All the way there, Diana regretted not having given a heads-up. Upon arriving at the Luther Hotel, she pulled out her business card. The hotel receptionist recalled for a moment, then said, "This gentleman just left. Let me think, around 1:20..."

Diana took a deep breath. It was 1:30. That meant they had just missed each other. That loser must have used some excuse to lure him out. She went back to the hotel entrance and asked the doorman. The doorman pointed her in a direction, and Diana quickly turned the car around and chased after him.

After a short chase, Diana spotted a Bentley. Again, using her exceptional eyesight, she caught sight of Schiller's back. She quickly sped up and honked the horn to try and alert him.

Just as she was about to catch up, an SUV suddenly sped out from the oncoming lane and crashed straight into Schiller's Bentley. The massive impact caused the Bentley to spin twice on the road before crashing into a nearby utility pole. Schiller was badly injured, bleeding profusely from a head wound, and was clearly unconscious.

Diana slammed on the brakes, stopped the car, and jumped out, but it was too late. Several people jumped out of the SUV, opened the Bentley's door, ripped Schiller out of the car, and shoved him into the SUV.

In her anxiety, Diana thought of flying, but then she remembered the look in Superman's eyes when he was taken away. She looked around, rubbed her forehead, got back into the car, and followed the SUV towards the suburbs.

Lex's face grew increasingly gloomy in the office, a thought swirling in his mind: the broker was planning to double-cross him.

These guys are the most well-informed. They know exactly what's going on in the underworld or in private. Besides, those guys dared to bomb his estate. There's no way these hyenas don't know about the snake tail.

If they planned to take the commission but not reveal the location of the artifact, instead keeping it for themselves and selling it for a good price, he might never see that mural again. He had to do something.

When Schiller opened his eyes, he found himself strapped to a chair. Blood trickled down his forehead, sticking his eyelashes together and making it difficult for him to blink.

A woman stood in the shadows, smiled at him, and said, "My beauty, we meet again."

Schiller looked up at her. Because the frame was broken, his glasses fell off as he looked up. Upon seeing the full view of those grey eyes, the woman's heart began to pound uncontrollably.

She didn't see it as attraction. Instead, it felt more like her body was sending her a runaway signal.

Suddenly, Schiller smiled and said, "You want a snake's tail?"

"Yes. Tell me where it is, and you'll suffer less."

Schiller gently shook his head. The woman wanted to persuade him further, but she heard Schiller say, "The most valuable gem on the serpent's tail is with Lex Luthor. The slab you can get from me is probably only of historical and cultural value."

"Shit!" The woman, disregarding her fear, rushed over and grabbed Schiller's hair. Just as she was about to strike, the door was kicked open with a bang.

A whip wrapped around his wrist, pulling the woman to the ground. Diana rushed in, shouting, "Don't move!"

Two more men lay dead behind her, clearly his underlings whom he had already knocked down. Diana, seeing Schiller's blood-covered face, didn't immediately rush over to untie him. Instead, she asked warily, "What did you just say?"

Clearly, she had overheard Schiller's words and realized it might be a hoax. But soon, countless police officers swarmed in, their dark gun barrels pointed at everyone.

"Don't move! Drop your weapons!!!"

Diana gritted her teeth and cursed. But the police had already seen her face. American police arrest people based on the evidence; if they haven't seen the person or the stolen goods, there's always a chance to escape. But once someone's face is seen at the crime scene, running away is considered resisting arrest.

Diana was perfectly aware that she had been tricked, but she needed to maintain her social identity and couldn't simply become a fugitive. She didn't even want to reveal her superpowers, so she had no choice but to raise her hands in full view of everyone.

Behind the police, she saw Lex Luthor's face. Diana clenched her fists. This must be a trap set by that bastard. Otherwise, how could he just happen to be here?!

Lex wasn't paying attention to Diana. He looked at the dent in the door, the several people lying unconscious on the ground, and finally at Diana.

"Oh no." Diana's heart sank to the bottom. She had been too hasty in her arrival and forgot to conceal her power. Lex Luthor was a smart man; he had probably already sensed something was wrong.

At that moment, the sheriff waved his hand and shouted, "Take them away!"

Diana had no choice but to be handcuffed and taken to a police car. Similarly, the woman, her accomplice, and Schiller were also taken to a police car.

Sitting in the police car, Lex clenched his fists. His breathing was so rapid that he looked like he was suffocating.

"Are you alright, sir?" the officer beside him asked. "Don't be too nervous. If it really was these terrorists who attacked your home, the court will definitely give a fair trial."

"Is that so?" Lex asked coldly. "Even if she could smash a steel door with one punch?!"

"You?!" Lex turned and glared at the officers. "You bunch of useless trash, you think you can stop these monsters who can crush ordinary people with a flick of their wrists?! You're nothing in front of them!!!"

But another sentence echoed in his mind—"...I am nothing either."

Seemingly realizing he was getting a little out of control, Lex took a deep breath, pulled his phone out of his pocket, dialed a number, and said, "Find someone for me. I've already sent you the photo."

A few dozen seconds later, the entire set of data was sent to Lex's phone. The first photo showed Diana Prince carrying supplies in the trenches, looking just as young as she does today.

When Lex closed his eyes, his expression was one of utter despair. He was as stiff as a corpse, his mind flashing through various images: the blasted alien spaceship, the explosion above Luther Manor, the steel gate that had been kicked and warped...

Then, his mind calmed down, entering a slowly flowing solid, like sinking into asphalt. Everything around him slowed down, and only one thought shot like an arrow from his left brain to his right, making his ears ring and his head throb.

He watched as his fingers typed out the following sentence on the keyboard: "I'll help you get out of this mess, but do me a favor."

In another police car, the woman's phone screen lit up briefly. She first glanced at the officer's expression, and seeing that he hadn't noticed, she quickly glanced at the screen and blindly typed a message.

"what's up?"
