Chapter 4008 The Eye Sorcerer and the Detacher

Chapter 4008 The Thousand-Eyed Sorcerer and the Detached One

Both thieves were ordinary people. Since Miss Pavo and the Ring Mage were fighting, the person they came to see was clearly the Ring Mage. Thinking about it this way, it's highly likely that the thieves broke into the auction today because some Ring Mage wanted to use them to obtain something.

As Shadcat pondered this, he climbed over the wall to the top of the abandoned farm. Standing on the wall, he saw two unfamiliar ring sorcerers fighting Miss Pavo.

The two strangers, one with a nine-ring and the other with an eight-ring, worked together remarkably well, yet they were still overwhelmed by Miss Paavo, who wielded the angelic relic, the "Smolwell Code." As for the two thieves, they lay supine outside the farm's cowshed, their life force no longer detectable by Shad.

The battle seemed to be ending soon, and Shadcat just stood on the wall, helping no one, watching as the two unfamiliar ring sorcerers were driven into a corner by Miss Pavo step by step.

The ritual array composed of intricate numerical symbols suppressed the opponent's power. Miss Pavo was no ordinary ring sorcerer, and the magic used by the two strangers initially lacked any distinguishing features. It wasn't until the shield they had jointly erected was nearly torn apart by the light emanating from Miss Pavo's fingertips that they finally unleashed their true abilities:

"Miraculous Technique - Demon Eye Technique!"

Different patterns appeared in both of their right eyes at the same time. Shad Cat had excellent eyesight and could see clearly even from a great distance.

"Oh, so it's the [Magic Eye Club]~"

He then realized what was happening.

"Demon Eye Technique" is the signature ability of the [Demon Eye Club]. This extraordinary technique replicates the abilities of the Demon Eye, allowing one's own eyes to temporarily utilize the characteristics of the Demon Eye at a cost. After all, even within the [Demon Eye Club], not everyone is willing to directly use a relic-level Demon Eye, making this technique relatively safe.

"But aren't they a neutral local organization? Why would they do something like this? The Baron's collection doesn't include the Magic Eye."

The two men's magical abilities did indeed work. According to Shadcat's assessment, the characteristics of the two eyes were "an unknown and potent curse" and "a target that twists in the field of vision."

Unfortunately, their opponent this time is the president of the [Truth Society]. Even if their eyes are genuine Demon Eyes, they might not be able to defeat Miss Pavo, not to mention that they only used part of the Demon Eyes' effects.

After briefly resisting Miss Pavo's attack, the power of the Magic Eye gradually lost its effectiveness as the numerical runes condensed on the ground into a complex ritual array resembling a mathematical formula. The situation quickly returned to the point where the two were being steadily defeated by Miss Pavo's power.

Bang!

The "Demon Eye Technique" was directly backfired by the power of the [Smolwell Codex], causing them to lose sight in their right eyes. The two were thrown back by the immense force, crashing headfirst into the cowshed of the farm. Miss Paavo didn't even seem to have used her full strength, but as she casually tried to grab the two seriously injured men to inquire about their condition, a voice came from her side.

Of course, it wasn't Xia De who spoke.

"The presence of the president of the [Truth Society] in the Arcadia region certainly adds to the academic atmosphere here. Miss Pavo, it's been a long time. What brings you here?"

The man with twelve life rings floating behind her wasn't greeting her; the man with his eyes closed had appeared directly through spatial teleportation. He looked to be around forty years old, his right arm wrapped in bandages and slinged around his neck. The powerful whispering quality emanating from his open right eye when he spoke even made Xia De, who was on the distant wall, feel somewhat uncomfortable.

The pattern in the demonic eye was an abstract skull shape. Miss Pavo instinctively turned her head and met the gaze of the demonic eye, which was most likely of angelic quality, before collapsing straight down. The [Smolwell Codex] automatically closed and fell onto her, landing squarely on her right hand.

The stranger took a deep breath, closed his right eye, and maintained the presence of the life ring for a while. After confirming that Miss Pavo hadn't gotten up, he went to the cowshed and brought out his two severely injured and unconscious companions. Blood tears streamed from their right eyes; the backlash from the magical technique had likely caused permanent damage, but such injuries were insignificant to the [Magic Eye Club].

The stranger then looked at the two thieves lying not far from Miss Pavo, and with a wave of his hand, an item flew out of the bag one of them was carrying and landed in his hand.

Shad saw it clearly: it was an antique-looking monocle with a gold frame and a silver chain. Shad hadn't examined it closely before the auction, so he didn't know why the other party wanted it.

Having obtained what he desired, the 12th-circle sorcerer, with his eyes closed, looked at the fallen Miss Pavo. But just as he was about to take a step towards her, a flash of crimson light streaked past. As the man with his eyes closed retreated, the red light struck the very spot where he had just stood.

"Who?"

He closed his eyes and "looked" toward the source of the red light, and then saw a silver-white cat that seemed to have been standing on the wall in the distance, staring intently at him.

The man with his eyes closed stared at Shad the cat for a moment, then glanced at the sorceress lying a few dozen steps away. Realizing he hadn't even noticed the cat's presence before it attacked, and finding it odd that Miss Pavo, despite only being a nine-ringed warrior, had been subdued by him in a single blow, he grabbed his two companions and vanished again using his spatial abilities.

Silence returned to the abandoned farm. Clouds drifted slowly across the sky. The cat nimbly leaped down from the wall, reverting to its illusionary human form before approaching the two fallen thieves.

As Shad crouched down, his back to Miss Pavo, to examine the "stolen goods" in her backpack, the sorceress also got up from the ground:

"The Summoner of Gods?"

She asked in a somewhat weak voice, and seeing that Xia De did not respond, she said with certainty:

"The probability that you are the Summoner of Gods is over 78.3%. Are you deliberately turning your back to me to test me?"

By this time, Shad had confirmed that the manuscript and the Rhodes Card were in that satchel, but he did not take those things. Instead, he stood up and looked at the sorceress who was struggling to stand up.

Her weakness at this moment was not feigned, but Xia De also didn't believe that she didn't have the ability to escape from that person.

Seeing that Shad was still looking at her without speaking, Miss Pavo took out a potion from her person and drank it down in one gulp. Her complexion immediately improved a lot.

"The last 12th-ring warlock to appear is Alan Aug, the current leader of the [Eyes Club], known as the 'Thousand-Eyed Warlock'. He is probably the person with the most Eyes installed in his body. The right eye he just opened is the famous Angel-level Eye, the [Soul Vortex].

As for the monocle he took, I can't say what it is, but it makes perfect sense that the owner of the Demon Eye wanted a pair of glasses, doesn't it?"

Shad ignored the lame joke:

"Do you have a grudge against the [Magic Eye Club]?"

"Of course not. In fact, we have some limited knowledge exchange with the club regarding the 'relic fusion with human body' project we conducted in the past. However, the [Truth Society] knows some interesting things. The relationship between the [Magic Eye Club] and the [Church of Creation] is closer than most people think."

The "Magic Eye Club" is most likely a front for the "Church of Creation."

This was something even Mr. Finch, a local, hadn't mentioned, but Shad wouldn't easily believe Miss Paavo's information; however, he understood the unspoken meaning behind Miss Paavo's words:

"Are you suggesting that today's events are related to the [Creation Church]?"

“Otherwise, I find it hard to imagine why the ‘Thousand-Eyed Sorcerer’ would personally ensure the security of an item that an ordinary thief could steal. Numbers don’t lie, and this doesn’t make sense statistically.”

"And what about you? What are you here for? Which item in that bag do you need?"

Shad then asked, "Miss Pavo recovered very quickly; the strange potion she drank was very effective."

"Original design manuscript of the Mark I steam engine."

She answered directly:

“I am very interested in it. After all, it is the original manuscript drawn by the designer of the most classic steam engine. It is even more precious to me than some relics.”

She regained her composure:

"Of course, I didn't come here for it. I only found out about the manuscript by chance. I'm here to find someone."

It seems everyone is looking for someone: Shad is, Mr. Bernhardt is, and even Miss Paavo is.

"Generally speaking, when others proactively provide me with information, it's for a purpose."

Shad said calmly. Miss Pavo smiled. The sorceress had an ordinary appearance, but her eyes were exceptionally bright.

"Yes, you are recognized as the strongest in the material world. You can't force me to do things; you can only guide me. However, I don't have any ulterior motives. I just want to thank you for your help earlier. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been easy for me to get away safely."

She reached out and conjured a symbol in the air:

"I've come to find a former member of the [Truth Society] from many years ago. She joined the organization earlier than I did. Years ago, the organization sent her to the Arcadia region to join the [Emerald Alchemy Association] to spy on the alchemists' research progress on the unknowable relic, the [Emerald Record]."

You need to understand this behavior. Researchers can't just conduct experiments behind closed doors. Knowing what others are researching and how they are progressing helps them improve their own skills.

However, after becoming a full member of the Alchemy Guild, her contact with the organization became increasingly rare, until finally she was completely lost. No one knows her true identity in this area. This place is adjacent to the Church of Creation, and for many years we haven't been able to actually send anyone here to search for her.

Back then, we believed she voluntarily left the Truth Society rather than dying accidentally because we used certain methods to confirm that she survived for many years after losing contact before finally dying. She didn't leak any organizational secrets; she simply stopped contacting the organization, so it couldn't be considered betrayal.
