Chapter 3890 The Key Guided by the Cat

Although this wasn't his first visit to the academy, as he looked towards the castle from the academy's gates, an idea involuntarily surfaced in the stranger's mind—

"Miss Feliana, is this the school you founded?"

The image of the violet-beautiful witch appeared in his mind, and Shad thought that since the one-month punishment of not being able to use the Time Key had ended, perhaps next time he could try his luck by deliberately looking for a key from the middle of the Fifth Era.

After all, since the Moon Bay incident last summer, when Shad saw off Miss Feliana and Fiona who came to Tobesk for a trip, he had not seen his "teacher" for half a year.

Principal Pigman did not arrange for the "Callers of Gods" to visit St. Byron's, as Shad did not want to have too much contact with the academy in his current capacity. So the group first met up with the elves waiting inside the academy, and then went to the main hall meeting room of the academy castle to discuss the corresponding plan for the transfer of the academy's land ownership.

The girls under Bella's command had already handled the specific plans, so besides signing, Shad only needed to emphasize that he did not intend to divide the academy's land; that land still belonged to the academy, only now it was labeled as "the territory of the Elf Kingdom."

Of course, although it sounds simple, this matter involves many troublesome things, such as access control, sharing and allocation of resources, identity verification when other clan elves enter the academy, and identity recognition of elves from outside the kingdom, etc.

However, none of this mattered to Shad. He was only there for the transfer of land ownership, and the rest of the issues were left to the Elven Elder Council to resolve.

Shad didn't bring anyone else today, after all, Denise would definitely not let him suffer. When it came to signing the documents, Shad was actually on the side of "Saint Byrons", but even with the help of the manpower provided by the academy, just reviewing and signing those documents took him a whole morning.

Ancient documents were presented to Shad one by one, and he had to examine each document from both the academy and the elven kingdom. But Shad, of course, would not sign his name, nor could he use the code name "Caller of Gods" as his real name.

Therefore, he asked Jialina to prepare a personal seal for him in advance, and the design of the seal was the "moon seal" pattern that girls were very familiar with.

At lunchtime that day, Shad was still discussing the current use of the college's land with Principal Pigman. Professor Pigman intended for Shad to purchase some properties within the college to strengthen the relationship between the two institutions, such as building an independent alchemy laboratory or a resort estate, but Shad showed no interest in this.

Lunch was eaten at the professors' club. After lunch, Shad finished up some paperwork and contracts, and then the group began to process the enrollment procedures for the little unicorns.

That's relatively simple, but the number of unicorns who can now shapeshift has increased to four. The newly appeared little unicorn is about the same age as little Leona, and her hair has light purple tips, making her easy to identify.

But this means that if Shad wants to see "Big Sister Unicorn," he'll probably have to wait a while longer.

"Wait a minute, when did I say I wanted to see a unicorn lady?"

She smiled gently, and Xia De felt like he was being mocked.

Accompanying the little unicorns through the enrollment process also helped outsiders, who were also correspondence students, understand the proper enrollment procedure.

This is much more troublesome than correspondence courses. Even though the little unicorns don't need to undergo the most complicated background checks because of their race, the other procedures, such as identity registration, race and soul wavelength recording, and entrance tests, are still troublesome enough.

When Shad took the entrance exam, the academy only required him to "write an essay of no less than eight hundred words on the ideas of good and evil, order and chaos," while the little unicorns who were formal students also had to take a test on their cultural level.

Like Ellie, the new little unicorns, though not fluent in Common Tongue, could all write, albeit strangely. The entire test would take an hour and would be personally proctored by Principal Pigman.

Shad didn't enter the lecture hall. Instead, he stood at the door with the nervous Emilia, watching the unicorn girls sitting in the first row in the sunlight, holding pens and swinging their legs as they looked at their exam papers. But soon he noticed two cats coming from the corner of the corridor behind him.

Xia De knew that the academy castle kept many cats to control rats, but he didn't expect that the two cats would walk straight towards him, squint their eyes, raise their heads and rub against his trouser leg, and then actually signal him to follow them.

"Ok?"

"The cats at the academy are all very obedient. Maybe they just like you and want you to see their dried rat meat warehouse."

Daniste said with a smile:

"Emilia, you and Lord Summoner go with them and take a look. I'll wait here. Just don't go too far; the exam ends in forty minutes."

So the pointy-eared elf happily tugged at Shad's sleeve and followed the cats away. While the other classrooms in the building were still in session, Emilia and Shad chased after the cats, feeling that the situation perfectly matched all her expectations for school life.

No classes, just walking with the person you like and going on adventures.

Unfortunately, the adventure ended in the small garden downstairs. The cats didn't want Shad to visit the "warehouse"; they just wanted him to rescue a kitten stuck deep in a crevice in the old castle wall.

The kitten appears to be the offspring of two adult cats, and it probably got stuck because it was being playful. However, it doesn't seem scared at all; instead, it stares wide-eyed at the outside world.

So Shad slowly melted the wall into mud, and then pulled the dirty kitten out of the cracks in the mud. When Emilia took the kitten to the pond to wash and dry it, it cried pitifully, its voice even higher-pitched than when Mia was being affectionate.

"Sure enough, cats don't like taking baths."

Shad smiled as he watched Emilia wash the cat, then prepared to restore the wall to its original state. Suddenly, he noticed something stuck in the gap where the cat had been wedged, so he dug into the mud and quickly pulled out an old wooden key.

"The Time Key?"

The key that unexpectedly appeared in the Academy Castle might be a sign of something, but with the trip to Mount Karas imminent, Shad doesn't want to get involved in other troubles that might delay his appointment with Daniste, so the key will probably have to be used later.

"How does the academy control the number of cats living here? The students must be very willing to feed these cats. If it's not managed, it won't be long before this place becomes overrun with stray cats."

After seeing the three cats off, on the way back, Shad asked Emilia again. He had thought it would be a physical castration, but the outsider didn't realize that this was a magic academy.

"Potions. Making those kinds of potions is something second-year students learn about."

Potions are indeed much simpler than surgery, and Emilia also told Shad that most of the cats living in the academy have "cat-like" blood, which makes them smarter but also greatly reduces their reproductive ability.

"But even with cat-raccoon blood, none of the cats in the academy are as smart as you, Mia. After all, the academy's cats can't accompany Ellie on her snow mountain adventure."

"Mia is indeed smart. That cat actually belongs to Miss Gaode."

The entrance exams for the four little unicorns ended quickly. In fact, they would be admitted regardless of how they did, so Shad wasn't worried about the results.

He and Amelia then accompanied the unicorn girls and professors through the enrollment process. However, under the arrangement of Principal Professor Pigman, although the group walked around the campus, they did not encounter any students.

After the enrollment process is completed, all that's left is to distribute books and school supplies to the unicorn girls and arrange their accommodation.

There's no need to arrange dormitories. Unicorns have their own habitat in the academy. Even the girls who can transform into human form prefer to live with their kind rather than in human houses.

Therefore, once they receive their textbooks, school uniforms, badges, and other supplies, they are considered to have officially become students of St. Byron's College.

While Ellie and the others were lining up to receive their books, Shad curiously asked Daniste:

"I already told you beforehand that I would be responsible for Ellie's tuition. But what about Leanna and the others' tuition?"

Shad still remembers that when he enrolled, he didn't have any money, and Dr. Schneider specially set aside a sum of gold pounds from the group's funds to help him temporarily pay for it.

“Little Leona and the others are the Academy’s unicorns. They are part of the Academy, so they don’t need tuition fees. In fact, the Academy gives them extra living expenses and pocket money.”

Shade then asked:

"How much living expenses and pocket money does the academy give them? I don't know how much money Ellie needs on a daily basis at the academy, so this can be a good reference."

The price level in St. Byron's Academy City is similar to that in Tobesk City, but because the Ring Sorcerers also need to purchase expensive books, spellcasting supplies, and special materials, their expenses are not small.

Denise then told Shad a number, and Shad planned to give her an allowance equal to 1.5 times that number. However, Shad wouldn't actually take out the money; his accumulated profits from the academy's fixed assets remained on the academy's books, so it was still the academy that paid Ellie.

Since Ellie joined the Academy's unicorn clan, her housing and daily expenses were naturally covered by the Academy. And since Ellie's personal hobbies were limited to apples, this money was certainly enough for her.
