Chapter 3753 Methods of Ring Casting
The doors closed and the curtains were drawn. As Chairman Le Norman pulled the lever, without any further intervention, the locomotive actually began to move forward along the tracks in the underground tunnel.
The train whistle sounded overhead, and the wheels rubbed against the rails with a rhythmic thud. Because the curtains were drawn, only the area ahead was currently visible. Although Chairman Le Norman had said that the underground tunnel was less than two hundred meters long, Shad could clearly see that the tunnel and rails ahead stretched into the depths of darkness.
Xia De felt that this relic was not a spatial relic, because he did not sense any spatial changes while the engine was running.
Ten minutes after the train started moving, the darkness of the tunnel dissipated, and the gaslights of the platform appeared ahead. The secret keepers of the Prophet's Association headquarters, who had been waiting there, immediately prepared to welcome the train's arrival, while remaining wary of anyone unfamiliar emerging from the carriages.
Fortunately, the journey went very smoothly. Compared to the space-transportation relics that Shad had used in the past, this relic was indeed very stable, but building an underground station was indeed very troublesome.
They were now at the headquarters of the Prophet's Association in Lomari, on the southern coast of the Old World. This was Shad's first visit to the city. As he stepped onto the platform, he thought of [The Impermanence of All Things - Fate], which was not far from him, but Chairman Lenorman had no intention of taking Shad on a tour of the association's headquarters.
After leaving the underground platform, the two were led eastward along the platform by an elderly keeper who looked even older than Priest Augustus, and then entered through an iron gate. Behind the gate was a familiar-looking elevator, which, amidst a rumbling vibration, began to move downwards.
The Prophet's Association has its own methods to prevent detection, so Shad's [Powerful Spatial Awareness] can only sense the approximate distance from the ground, but cannot pinpoint the exact location.
"Perhaps similar to the underground section of the college library."
After all, the headquarters of the Society of Prophets moved here much earlier than Miss Feliana and Britney founded St. Byrons.
The elevator stopped after descending for ten minutes, and the old keeper then opened the door on the right side of the elevator. Behind the door was a wall, which melted away as if by illusion after the old man placed his palm on the center of the wall.
Behind the wall was a spacious circular hall. As the three entered, the kerosene lamps on the walls lit up simultaneously. Including the door they had come through, there were a total of 13 iron doors on the wall, each with an identical design.
The old keeper of secrets led the two to a door with a clear objective. He took out a small key, opened the door, and gestured for them to enter. It was pitch black behind the door, presumably to prevent anyone from looking in from the outside.
"Come this way."
Chairman Le Norman went inside first, and Shad followed.
He had imagined what might happen behind the door: perhaps a room filled with shelves, each brimming with crystal balls; perhaps an endless grassland, where a mysterious figure awaited them; Shad even considered that behind the door lay the Casino of Destiny, where Chairman Le Norman sought to use the casino's power to acquire the means to create an "artificial Ring of Destiny."
But he was completely wrong. After passing through the door, they entered a narrow, dark room without any lights. The room was divided into two parts by iron bars. Shad and Chairman Lenorman stood outside the bars, while inside the bars, which were covered with ancient runes, a figure emitting a faint glow sat on a high stool.
The space inside and outside the fence was even smaller than the bathroom in the Shad family's house; even Xiaomia, who never cared much about her living space, would probably find it cramped. It looked like a prison, and inside the prison was a blurry figure.
Whose shadow is this?
A thought suddenly struck Xia De, and he asked a question that surprised Chairman Le Norman.
"You can tell this is a shadow? Yes, it is indeed a shadow. The association's records don't specify the exact time it appeared here; it's as if it was here from the beginning."
It's not that we imprisoned it; it chose to live here. We call it the 'Prophet,' and it occasionally utters prophecies. Diviners throughout history have simply recorded these prophecies. Most of the time, it doesn't answer any of our questions, and only on rare occasions will it speak to us about something.
"So you called me here for..."
"After the war of the eccentrics, the prophet said he wanted to meet someone who might know about the 'Angel of Death'."
Shad nodded:
"I understand."
He moved slightly closer to the fence. The ancient runes on it didn't seem to be for imprisonment; they appeared more like runes used to block and suppress power. As for the shadow on the bar stool, Shad could only sense pure elements of miracles:
"Hello, you want to know about the 'reporter of the dead'?"
A voice came from the glowing shadow:
"I'm only talking to you."
Shade then turned to look at Chairman Le Norman, who hesitated for a moment:
“Then I’ll leave first. Summoner, you can leave through this door. I’ll wait for you in the outer hall.”
He nodded to Shad and then left directly from there.
The door was closed, and only the shadow behind the fence shone faintly. It was motionless, and its voice was neither male nor female, and had no distinguishing characteristics.
“You carry the aura of a cherubim. If you wish to seek help, why not go to it?”
Shad raised an eyebrow, not answering the question but instead asking it in return:
"You wanted to see me because of the Angel of Death, and now you know that I have been in contact with the Cherubim. Are you the shadow of an angel? Are you from the Angel of Fate?"
The figure also did not answer Xia De's question:
"The one who announces the end of the world should never have appeared in this world at this moment. Even if he only appeared for a few minutes, it has already exceeded the trajectory of fate. I was curious about what kind of power could make the angel who proclaimed the end of the world return ahead of time, and I suspected that this was Mr. Huan's special arrangement. After seeing you, I understand."
"What did you understand?"
But the figure still did not answer Xia De's question:
"My doubts have been answered when I met you, so please tell me what you want to know."
Shad frowned as he looked at it; the other party truly had the air of a prophet.
"Is it possible to create an artificial Ring of Fate using curved arcs?"
"Yes, that requires materials—two non-colliding and different curved surfaces."
This requires power—the power of the sun and the moon—to complete the final third of the curve.
This requires a tool—the best choice is the Unknown-level relic [Moon in the Water] or the Unknown-level relic [Double Wheels of Sun Shadow];
This requires a location—a sacrificial site that is close enough to the sky and ancient enough;
This requires a ritual—a ritual to transform a non-circle into a circle.
Standing outside the fence, Xia De hesitated for a moment before asking again:
"Since Chairman Le Norman brought me here, it means he believes I have a high probability of getting the answers from here, but are you just going to tell me this information like this?"
"Since you've raised the question, of course I'll answer it."
"I see. Is there anything you need to ask me? Or is there anything you need me to do?"
The figure remained silent for a few seconds before speaking:
"No, seeing you standing here answers most of my questions. Leave now. Even with this information, truly forging a fake Ring of Fate is still no easy task."
Curved arcs can be found, unknowable relics exist in the hands of mortals, and while such sites are rare in this era, they certainly exist; the power of the sun and moon can be obtained through external means. But only that ritual—
The cherubim will give you the answer; the answer must be found in the unknowable relic, the Book of All Laws; the mad omniscient one has a chance to answer your question; the ruins atop Mount Fatumun may contain data that has not yet disappeared; in the Casino of Fate, you can obtain this knowledge by placing bets.
Or perhaps fate will deliver the answer to you in an unexpected way; Mr. Huan always manages to arrange unforeseen events.
It did not stop speaking:
"The order in which the thirteen chosen ones appear will also affect the course of the entire story. If the chosen one of the sun or the moon has already appeared at this moment, with the assistance of the chosen one of knowledge and wisdom, most steps can be skipped to directly forge a fake ring of fate."
But everything was already destined; even our conversation at this moment may have been inevitable at some point many years ago.
It provides five methods for finding the ritual, and most of them are quite feasible.
"What the hell are you?"
Xia De asked, and the figure behind the iron fence replied:
"When the ancient gods departed, the fate of the world was thrown into complete chaos after twilight. A prophet went mad because of this, and I am a shadow of that prophet."
"Is that prophet an angel of fate?"
The figure asked:
Are you the moon?
It seemed to enjoy answering questions with questions, but so did Shad. He pondered for a moment, then thanked the figure:
"Thank you for providing this information. May I see you again in the future?"
The figure behind the fence answered:
"In this whole world, if you want to do something, no one can stop you. But meeting me again is meaningless; I am just a shadow, a shadow abandoned by a madman. No one can fully understand fate, nor can anyone know all the future. Summoner, where will you lead this world?"
Xia De replied:
"At least it won't be the worst future."
The figure nodded silently and said nothing more. Before leaving, Xia De asked again:
"Do I need to say something to Ms. White, oh, you mean the guardian of the snow mountain seal?"
Shadow replied:
"No need. No matter how this story ends, its mission has come to an end. I have nothing to say to it; after all, I am just a shadow."
