Chapter 3750 The Last Story of the Fatu People

Chapter 3750 The Last Story of the Fatu People

Although the new post-apocalyptic area Shad was visiting was called "Doom Town," there was actually no misfortune here. As Shad and Adele walked against the sandstorm, Shad told her about his various experiences in towns in the real world.

He used to speak very vaguely, but now he can tell you a lot about a house or a broken wall just by looking at it.

The two walked aimlessly forward without any clear goal, but eventually they arrived in front of the Snow Mountain Hall.

This building is the most intact building in the entire town. Although the southeast corner of the third floor has collapsed as if it had been bombed by a steam cannon, all the windows are boarded up, and the bridge connecting the hill castle to the rest of the town is broken, the rest of the building still looks relatively intact.

"This place should have served as a shelter, protecting the people on the island. After the apocalypse, most of the survivors gathered together, struggling to survive with a group of ring sorcerers at their core."

The blonde witch spoke to Shad amidst the sandstorm, and together they crossed the broken bridge to the foot of the steps leading to the Snow Mountain Hall. The lower half of the steps was completely buried in the sand, and the exposed steps were severely eroded by the wind.

Xia De then guessed:

"Are those mindless corpses you mentioned still in the castle now?"

Adele was also unsure:

"In the apocalypse, most people disappear silently, and complete corpses are rarely found."

The two climbed the steps to the tightly closed gate. A gust of wind blew towards Shad from the side. Shad bent over and, after a few attempts, managed to push the gate open with difficulty. A stench of decay immediately wafted out of the castle, causing Shad to cough incessantly, but thankfully no monsters rushed out.

Adele smiled to herself, then thought back to the countless times she had wandered this world alone, pushing open similar doors with a heavy heart, witnessing the final stories of one shelter after another, but only this time did she feel so happy:

“If he can stay, I can’t think like that.”

Upon entering the Snow Mountain Hall, the vast, dark foyer was scattered with sand and gravel that had blown in through the cracks in the doors and windows. The clutter blocking the door and the bolt behind it were the reasons why Shad had had difficulty opening it earlier. Some debris was scattered throughout the foyer, but none of it was of any value.

"Should we collect some supplies to take back?"

Shade asked Adele, and the witch shook her head:

"You take care of your own business first. After you leave, I'll have plenty of time to explore this place."

At the end of the foyer were steps leading to the banquet hall, and in the corner on the east side of those steps lay a corpse with the lower half of a snake, easily overlooked. Adele's summoned golden orb illuminated it; the skeleton was intact, but its appearance in life was no longer recognizable.

"It appears to be a woman's corpse."

Adele said, then noticed that the body was clutching an item in each hand; in its left hand was a pair of glasses, and in its right hand was a letter, though the ink on the yellowed paper had dried.

The witch carefully pulled out the letter without damaging the corpse, then waved her finger to reverse time and restore the letter's contents.

Shad looked at the black-rimmed glasses in the woman's hand; the glasses were badly damaged, but he had definitely seen those glasses in town.

"Professor Reinhardt's glasses."

"This body looks like Claire's mother!"

Adele exclaimed in surprise, then handed the letter to Shad. Due to the chaos of spacetime, even the demigod-level Time Witch could only recover a portion of the letter.

Judging from its contents, this letter was written by Elder Harald to Mrs. Reinhardt. The elder instructed his daughter to leave the town immediately and never return to the Snow Mountain Hall.

Moreover, from the few words spoken, it can be seen that Claire died before the apocalypse, while Professor Reinhardt transformed into some kind of terrifying evil and disappeared long ago.

The letter appears to have been written in a great hurry. At this point, Shad and Adele no longer knew whether Mrs. Reinhardt had become a half-human, half-snake, nor why she ultimately died here instead of leaving the town.

But no matter what, she was Claire's mother. Even though Shad didn't have much time to operate in the post-apocalyptic era, he and Adele still dug up the floor of the Snow Mountain Hall and buried her body in this small corner.

To prevent the corpse from suddenly coming back to life, they burned it before taking action. Adele was very skilled at it; Shad knew she had done similar things on her own many times before, but he didn't ask who else the Great Witch of Time had buried.

The letters and glasses were not buried; Adele kept them to remember her former companion.

Instead of heading to the rooms on the side of the castle, the two climbed the steps to the entrance to the banquet hall. An even stronger stench wafted from under the door, but Shad still bent down and pushed it open.

The scene that followed in the banquet hall left both of them speechless for a long time. The corpses of various snakes and monsters with snake scales filled almost every corner of the banquet hall, and the traces of the battle were still deeply imprinted on the walls and ceiling of the banquet hall even after a long time.

There were even two hundred-meter-long snakes whose heads had broken through the wall and entered the courtyard. Although only skeletons remained of the giant snakes, these two snakes were probably evil creatures comparable to the Infinite Serpent in life.

In the center of the banquet hall, the corpses of monsters were piled up into a small hill. At the top of the hill was an ancient wooden staff, and at the top of the staff hung a bull-horned hat.

Although there are no words or sounds here, the scene itself tells the story of what once happened.

The wooden staff and horned hat seemed to glow faintly in Shad's eyes, and he knew that these were the "relics of the strong" he was looking for. Shad did not know what kind of power Elder Harald had possessed before his death, who fought to the very last moment, but the Great Elder of the Fatu people ultimately went to the end with this town.

Adele looked at Shad, worried that he would be saddened by the scene, but Shad knew that it was all in the past:

"I'll go by myself. You wait for me at the door."

Shad spoke to Adele, then stepped over the corpses scattered across the floor and walked to the center of the banquet hall. After climbing the "hill" formed by the monsters' bodies, he grasped the long wooden staff and pulled it out with force.

The wooden staff and the horned hat then transformed into countless specks of light, but after Shad swung the Staff of Yggdrasil, under the influence of the staff's power, they ultimately turned into a card and fell into Shad's hand.

Transforming the power of the apocalypse into cards seems to target not only apocalyptic evils but also "relics of the strong."

The back of the card still features the same design as the previous "Calamity Cards," and the card's size is identical. However, Shad knew that once he saw the card's contents, he would likely be leaving this era, so he didn't check the card's contents, temporarily putting it away and returning to Adele's side.

"I originally thought that monsters would appear here and fight me, and I could only get the 'Relic of the Strong' if I won."

Shad joked with Adele, and seeing that Shad was in a good mood and knew that he wouldn't leave immediately, Adele felt a little happy.

"In this world that is coming to an end, encountering monsters is not easy. Let's go back."

She said, and Shad nodded:

"Then go back."

As he spoke, he glanced back at the banquet hall, which was filled with the corpses of monsters. He first thought of the countless times he had talked with witches and elders here, and then he thought of the banquet on All Souls' Day.

But in the end, the memories vanished, leaving only the battlefield before him where Elder Harald fought to the very last moment.

Although he felt somewhat melancholy upon learning about the current state of Kyle Todd in the post-apocalyptic era, there was much more to Shad than met the eye. Not wanting to spend his precious time with Adele in a low mood, Shad adjusted his mood as the two returned to the town's docks.

When Shad returned to the dilapidated No. 6 Place Saint-Delan through that oil painting, he no longer thought about the scene he had just witnessed.

Adele also seemed to be in a good mood:

"The bark used to make the canvas was obtained in the 'Yordle Palace Castle.' After you leave this time, I will explore that place again. There might be more World Tree materials there. If we can take you to more locations, we might be able to obtain more information and power that can help you."

"Is that castle dangerous?"

“But I am a demigod witch. The two princes are stationed in the top-floor palace and will not come out easily. As long as I don’t get close to there, I can solve most of the troubles.”

Adele, holding Shad, sat back down on the sofa and whispered again:

"Moreover, in this desolate era, I always need to find something to do. Living here requires having your own goals, otherwise it's easy to become one of those mindless, wandering corpse monsters."

"You continue to witness the legendary stories of the chosen ones in this world, while I explore the Yodel Palace in this era, searching for canvas materials and those hidden messages for you. This makes me feel alive."

Shad, on the other hand, recalled his strange dream about Adelina (3674), in which he stumbled into the Yodel Palace described by Adele and finally encountered the enormous Adelina.

He had never described this dream to any girl in the world, but at this moment he described it to Adele:

"In this era, deep within the palace guarded by the two princes, is it possible that Queen Adelina could exist?"

Adele couldn't give an answer either:

"I don't know. I can't tell you about Adelina Cavendish's experiences in the story I've been through, but she was incredibly powerful. If you want to confirm, I can go and defeat the insane Twin Princes then."
