Chapter 3743 The King's Invitation

Chapter 3743 The King's Invitation

Chapter 3743 The King's Invitation

The nun took the broken blade:

"Excellent firewood. So, is it strength, or a weapon?"

"No, not for now. Sister, please go and complete your promotion first. We can discuss this matter again after you've completed it."

But just like the previous two times, Sister Daphne repeated:

"Strength, or weapons?"

The gentle voice beside his ear made Xia De say:

"This time, let's choose a weapon, preferably a sword. If a suitable destiny comes along, I'll use it to enhance the Night Watchman. But when enhancing the Earth Forge, other materials can be added at the same time. If the Demon Remains can provide some special materials to help enhance the Night Watchman, that would be even better."

Sister Daphne nodded gently:

Please come back here at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

“Sister, you don’t need to stay up late. I’m not in a hurry. Okay, I understand. I’ll come over after breakfast tomorrow morning. I still don’t think it’s necessary to stay up late.”

Shad didn't stay at the mountaintop sacrificial site for long. After dropping the glass slipper and returning home, Dorothy thought Shad had finished his business for the day, but he went out again:

"I'll go see Dr. Schneider again, and I'll be right back."

When Xia De arrived at the psychological clinic in the east of the city, after crossing half the city, the doctor was indeed waiting for him. For the doctor's safety, Xia De did not bring the drop of blood sealed in the thirteen-sided crystal—it was in the gift box—but the doctor knew that Xia De had come to say something.

“I’ve never tried the [Original Sin Seal] before, and I didn’t expect it to have such power. But since the seal is very secure, let’s stick to our previous plan and soak it in holy water, with Priest Augustus keeping it safe.”

The doctor poured a cup of tea for Shad, who was sitting on the sofa. He had prepared champagne, but Shad declined, saying he had something to do later.

Xia De asked:

"Back when you did that thing years ago, Miss Aya didn't use the [Original Sin Seal] either?"

The doctor shook his head:

"I used it, but I was still very weak at that time. Weakness is the original sin. I couldn't understand who the power belonged to that night. Since you used the [Original Sin Seal], you should understand that this power is similar to the power of demons."

"But speaking of which, I was initially worried you were going to absorb that; you mentioned you've absorbed many dangerous powers before."

He also sat down on the low sofa to the side, and Shad shook his head:

"Don't think of me as some kind of trash can. If I weren't forced into it, there are many things I wouldn't touch. Let the priest purify the blood slowly. Doctor, you won't be able to relax for a while. I'm counting on you to come up with a solution to investigate the demon's memories and find a way to control its nature."

"No problem, leave it to me."

The doctor laughed. The demon's true form had been devoured, and the pressure he faced was far less than that of Shad.

"The only thing I don't understand is, it should know we're tracking it, yet it still dared to show itself so openly last night. Detective, do you think it might still have some tricks up its sleeve that we don't know about?"

"There shouldn't be any more. Mr. Snake said that the demon knows how powerful you and I are, so he wants to use a second method to liberate the Demon King. Once Mr. Snake wins, perhaps the end of the first era will come in the present of the sixth era. Since the end of the era has come, the seal will be broken."

"That's it"

The doctor looked towards the window behind the sofa opposite him, gazing at the thick darkness outside, a melancholy expression appearing on his face:

"The more I come into contact with this kind of thing, the less I understand why this kind of thing would come into existence in this world."

Shad was thinking about the "Sin Brand" he had heard from Ms. White earlier that day. He had been thinking of sharing this secret with the doctor on his way here, but seeing the doctor's expression made him give up on the idea.

Knowledge itself has weight, and distorted, evil knowledge is an even greater burden for mortals. The doctor's burden is already heavy enough; Shad believes there's no need to add any more.

"So, once you've fully absorbed the demonic power of the weapon, Doctor, you should be able to advance to the eleventh ring, right?"

"Yes, but this is not something that can be accomplished in a week or two. I even suspect that the demon that created that weapon was once the weapon of the 'Demon King,' or even the weapon used by the primordial demon when it committed its first crime. But whether my suspicions are correct or not, it is indeed ancient, and ancient means powerful."

The good news is, maybe this time I can use it to master the 'Demon Realm' and thus possess my own Mystic Lock, just like you."

At this point, the doctor remembered something else:

"Although I need time to gradually peruse the demon's memories, there is a lot of knowledge the demon possesses that I can directly decipher. It knows many methods of weapon forging, and my alchemy skills will probably improve greatly after this incident. You can come to see me anytime you have time; I'll be making some new items soon."

"I'm afraid I won't have much time lately, but I should be able to relax for a while in the spring. Doctor, winter is coming to an end, will you miss this winter?"

“I won’t miss it, but many people will. After all, for most people, it was the last peaceful winter before the war came.”

After returning home, Shad didn't go out again. He couldn't possibly go to the church to see Priest Augustus in the middle of the night with demon blood on him, so after losing the glass slipper, he finally changed out of his home clothes. Judging from Dorothy's expression, if Shad dared to go out again, she was ready to knock him unconscious and drag him home by force.

Galina didn't return until 10 p.m. that night with her maids. It was Friday, and she had accompanied Queen Diana to a dinner party that wasn't very important, but which she couldn't skip. As the Duchess entered, she complained to Shad:

"Everyone knows that a great war is imminent, and it seems that everyone wants to make a fortune from it. Lacey's uncle told Diana at the dinner party tonight that he wanted to find a job supplying shoes to the Kingdom's army, and he happens to own a large shoe and hat manufacturing factory."

But everyone knows his factory went bankrupt long ago; this is just a ploy to subcontract military orders and make a fortune. I think if the nobility are full of such scoundrels, this country has no hope for the future.”

Did Queen Diana agree?

Dorothy asked, and Galina shook her head:

"Of course not, but Lacia's cousin brought up Lacia's deceased aunt again, so I think Diana will definitely find some other way for him later."

She clearly looked down on this behavior, while Shad had no idea who they were talking about; the Cavendish family had just too many relatives. He had initially thought it had nothing to do with him, but then Galina spoke to him again:

“Shad, if you don’t have anything important to do next Monday evening, please set aside some time.”

"No problem, what's up?"

Galina then pointed in the direction of Yodl Palace:

"Diana just told me that my nephew wants to meet with you to discuss our relationship."

The blonde girl suddenly stood up from the sofa, and now anyone could tell that it was Lacia:

"Jalina, didn't we agree that neither of us would tell anyone about the engagement?"

Her Highness was clearly angry, while Galina leaned against Shad and waved her hand.

"I didn't say anything. Lacey, sit down. What kind of attitude is this?"

Our war with Carsenrick is about to begin, and your father wants to ensure domestic political stability. So he wants to talk to Shad. Don't worry, it's just a talk, nothing more. Shad just needs to assure me that our relationship is normal and that he's thinking about marrying me. It's not a big deal.”

Lacey still looked at her with suspicion, but at least she sat down:

"Don't do anything unnecessary, or everyone will be unhappy."

Galina smiled:

"Look at you, as if you're afraid your little cake will be snatched away. Well then, it's settled. Shad will go to Yodel Palace on Monday night, it should only take about twenty to thirty minutes. I'll have Tifa tidy up Shad beforehand. No, no need to tidy up, just leave him as he is."

Xia De nodded:

"Alright, but will I go to the Yodel Palace by myself, or will someone come to invite me?"

"I'll take care of it. I'll emphasize again, this is not a big deal."

Although she said that, Lacey still thought she was a little too happy:

"You'd better tone down your smile. Shad is currently busy with matters on Fatummister Island. If you drag him into troublesome political turmoil, I, Luvia, will definitely come after you."

Galina didn't respond to her, leaning on Shad's shoulder and smiling, seemingly lost in thought. Lacey knew what she was thinking.

Everyone stayed up late last night, so everyone went to bed early tonight. Dorothy wasn't feeling well—it had been exactly twenty days since her last illness—so Galina had the master bedroom on the second floor, room number one, all tonight, along with Shad and Mia.

Lacey warned her in advance not to do anything tonight, and after the lights were turned off, Galina really did behave herself and did nothing.

She lay down beside Shad and, in the moonlight streaming through the window, said to him:

“Although he is my nephew, my junior, and you have met him before, I am still looking forward to your meeting on Monday. It feels very different.”

Will I have sweet dreams tonight?

When Shad asked, Galina tilted her head and leaned her cheek against the pillow to look at him:

"If I could get a kiss, I would have sweet dreams."

And so the moonlight kissed her, and everyone at No. 6 Place Saint-Delan, including Mia on the other side of the pillow, had sweet dreams that night.

But the Yodel Palace is a different story.
