Chapter 3690 The Madman's Words and the Priest's Help

Chapter 3690 The Madman's Words and the Priest's Help

There was no need for Shad to handle the task of containing such a document-level relic himself. Less than an hour after Claire came to inform Shad, news arrived that Flora and Megan had returned with the fishhook.

Shad then saw the hook mounted on the fishing rod on the ship. The hook was plain in appearance, with indistinct ancient runes on its surface—[Fishing for All Things].

Shad then remembered that he once possessed an artifact called the "Soul Fishing Rod," but unfortunately, that fishing rod was destroyed in the battle against the vampire god on Mount Sikar.

He sighed over the past, then asked Megan:

"What do you plan to do with these relics? Or are you just going to keep them?"

"The Witch Council once housed it in the past. We plan to give this fishhook to Granny Cassandra. Perhaps Granny Cassandra can discover other uses for this fishhook."

Since it's a hook for fishing for fate, it might be able to directly fish out curves or circles. Using relics comes at a cost, but if that cost could be directed to consuming a certain amount of money or materials, these relics would actually be very useful.

Of course, the most valuable part of this matter is that Flora proved that the spirit wolves she summoned through "spirit summoning" could indeed find other relics related to fate.

The significance of this is self-evident; perhaps before the story of the snow mountain ends, she can truly find a new cycle of destiny through this method.

Nothing else happened that morning, but around lunchtime, another report of new plague cases on the island was delivered to Shad. At the same time, news came from the Prophet's Association that the third person who had made a deal with "Mr. Snake" had been found.

This story is relatively simpler. Because his father, a sailor, fell into the sea and died, the young man believed that the other people on the ship had conspired to murder his father.

So he made a wish to Mr. Snake, hoping to gain the power of revenge, and the snake really gave him the power of revenge, granting him the ability to transform into a snake.

Coincidentally, the church had recently been searching the entire city for those who had died unexpectedly, and thus took notice of this unusual case when the young man killed his first victim. After all, dying from a snake bite was indeed a rare occurrence on the island of Fatumunst in winter.

The in-depth investigation eventually led the prophets to discover the truth, and during the subsequent pursuit, the young man who had traded with the snake transformed into a giant black snake, eventually dying from exhaustion under the siege of the ring sorcerers.

His diary explained what happened, and the subsequent investigation proved that his father really died in an accident. The young man thought there was something fishy about his father's death, but he was just listening to rumors.

"This story has a tragic beginning, a tragic process, and a tragic ending. The only good news is that the number of dead and injured in this incident was very small, with only two people, including himself."

Shad commented on this, but Luvia shook her head:

"Don't jump to conclusions. The man's father's fleet mainly handled cargo transport along the southern coast of the Old World. The five-ship fleet left the island on Thursday, and the church tried to contact them but found that the entire fleet had lost contact."

Before I arrived, the church and prophets found the area where the ships wrecked; not a single person in the entire fleet survived. And that wasn't the worst of it; none of the dead found peace. The five ships, now ghost ships, are adrift, their whereabouts unknown.

According to the association's assessment, the young man's wish was likely not only to gain power but also to seek revenge. After his death, it became impossible for him to exact revenge, and thus, the fate of destruction automatically descended upon the innocent.

Claire then asked:

"Since Mr. Snake is so powerful that he can influence fate out of thin air, he can simply cause destruction directly. Why must humans make wishes to him?"

“Manipulating and influencing fate always comes at a price, even for snakes. I’ve discussed this with Bella, and there are also opinions about it within the association. By granting wishes to humans, it gains a fulcrum to leverage more of the power of fate.”

Luvia explained that she was actually very worried:

"As it stands, the snake can grant any wish a mortal might have. I worry that sooner or later someone will make a wish that involves the fate of more people, wanting to be luckier when playing cards, or wanting to take revenge on a specific group of people. But these are all minor matters."

Imagine if a madman who wanted to destroy humanity actually made a wish upon a snake—what would happen then?

Before lunch, a more detailed investigation report on Baron Samir was also delivered. This investigation did not uncover much valuable information, and there were no more witnesses to the story of the Baron and that Lady Halonin.

But Shad was unwilling to passively wait for the woman to reappear. He had to return to Tobesk for a meeting that afternoon, so he planned to return to Time Wheel City after the meeting and visit the Baron again before evening.

He felt that the Baron must still have some clues; the middle-aged man in the wheelchair was probably not just a simple victim.

"If you weren't a kind person, you could have used the Baron to blackmail that woman into showing herself. Since she likes the Baron so much, even if she knows it's a trap, she should still show up, right?"

Megan suggested, half-jokingly.

“I don’t do such things not just because I’m kind, but because I’m worried that the other party will take me down with them. I can only kidnap one person, but she has the power to turn many more people into Infinite Snakes.”

Shad and Megan walked side by side into the banquet hall; lunch was about to begin.

"But we must find a way to counter them. Iluna obtaining the two Rings of Fate is just one possible means. If we can limit their mind control abilities and find out how they turn others into snakes, then this matter will be much easier to resolve."

Now that the target has been identified, this trouble must be resolved within a week. Once Act Five concludes, the grand symphony of destiny will begin and the guardians will appear quickly. The story on this island won't drag on until spring; the final act is not far off.

After lunch, Shad returned home and took Mia and Dorothy to the doctor for the week's training meeting. It was already the latter half of the Starry Moon season, and although Tobesk had experienced a snowfall a few days prior, the temperature had clearly begun to rise.

When Shad and Dorothy arrived at the doctor's office, they were surprised to find that the fireplace was no longer in use. However, Shad later learned that the fireplace was under maintenance and that was why it was temporarily out of service.

"Aren't fireplace repairs usually done before the autumn heating season starts? What kind of repairs are needed now?"

Dorothy asked, puzzled, and Dr. Schneider was also quite helpless about it:

"A few days ago, one of my patients suddenly went crazy during a consultation. I don't really like to use this description. He didn't hurt anyone, but this gentleman, who always thought his house and himself were crawling with bugs, threw everything in the meeting room at the fireplace."

As a result, the fireplace in the room next door on the second floor was damaged. I was worried that this would affect the chimney system of the whole house, so I called a worker to repair it.

"You mean Mr. Rubio who lives on St. Magnus Street in the East District? I know him. I heard he was sent to a sanatorium outside the city last week?"

Just then, Priest Augustus entered and asked, to which the doctor reluctantly admitted:

“Not all patients can be completely cured. Some people’s mental problems are psychological, while others are brain neurological problems whose causes remain unknown. I think that even with the most advanced medical technology, some diseases are still difficult to cure. Last weekend, a patient told me that he felt someone was trying to assassinate Queen Diana.”

Dorothy, who had been watching Mia wagging her tail while lying on Shad's lap, suddenly raised her head:

"what?"

"That man was a conspiracy theorist, willing to believe in any conspiracy. He once told me that the royal family was actually lizard people, that the Church of the True God had long controlled the royal family, and that engineers had long ago invented a magical machine that could feed everyone, but the businessmen wouldn't allow it to be promoted. Even earlier, he believed that this world was someone's dream, and that the world would end when the dream ended."

The doctor shook his head:

"Alright, alright, stop listening to my ravings. Sometimes I wonder how many people my profession can actually save. After seeing so many lunatics, I sometimes worry that I might go mad myself one day."

“Bill, this is no joke.”

Priest Augustus wiped his pipe as he spoke, and the doctor smiled and did not continue the conversation:

"Anna is absent from the meeting due to a business trip, so let's begin this study session. First up is the college's bounty notice, from the Chemistry Department."

Although there was a choking gray smog outside the window, sunlight still managed to penetrate the fog and shine into the room. Xia De, petting the cat and holding a teacup, watched Dr. Schneider announce the college's latest news. As he put down his teacup, preparing to speak, the outsider suddenly had a strange feeling.

He really loves this world.

Shad is also facing his own troubles. After everyone finished dealing with their own college matters, he helped Luvia submit a course paper, and then he described the matter of Ms. Halonin to Dr. Schneider and Priest August.

"The other party can control others anytime, anywhere, and use this to mutate people into snakes. This is really troublesome. Although we could try to lure her to an uninhabited area, I suspect that the range of her mental influence is enough to cover the entire island."

The doctor didn't have a good solution to this problem either, but the priest offered his advice after hearing the story:

"The essence of mental power is related to the soul. To sever her mental power, we can actually start from the level of the soul. Methods such as mind-blocking alloys may be useless against such a powerful being, but methods that silence the power of the soul should be able to effectively limit the spread of her mental power."
