Chapter 3622 Underwater Tomb

Chapter 3622 Underwater Tomb

Shad gave a brief introduction to everyone, and as they headed toward the cave, he explained his plans and that the church and the Prophet's Association would depart three hours later.

“Mr. Watson, we also encountered the Tyranny Club yesterday.”

Mr. Mortis said the following during the journey:

"While we continued our investigation in the city into the woman who could drain people's spiritual energy, we tracked down the envoy of the small principality on the east coast, and then unexpectedly stumbled upon his meeting with those cultists. After we captured that cultist, he was willing to exchange a secret for his freedom."

"Fallen Star Beast?"

"Yes, although the information provided is not as much as what you got from the cultists, it at least lets us know what crashed in this sea."

Therefore, Xia Decai believes that the "Tyranny Club" was arranged by fate to provide clues to everyone.

Luvia indicated that the location was in a hidden canyon at the foot of the northwest mountain of the snow mountain, while the cave that the Fatu people had sealed off was on the side of the middle section of the canyon. If you were to search for it from the air, you wouldn't be able to see the cave with the naked eye.

Upon arrival, the group looked around, but there were no signs of anyone having been there recently. It seemed that neither the cultists nor the prophets had found this place yet; Luvia's divination had saved Shad a lot of time.

Four of the witch's followers remained outside the cave, not to guard the entrance, but to observe from a distance and report back to the Radiant Messenger if anything happened. The rest of them walked into the cave and soon saw the brick wall blocking their way.

The wall was silently melted by Sylvie's light, but after the group passed through, Emilia reversed time and restored the wall, also erasing the traces they left behind.

The cave was a maze of interconnected passages, and many explorers had disappeared there before it was sealed off. But Shad had a map given to him by Luvia, and following her directions, they made their way forward with almost no rest.

Even half an hour after they set off, they saw a skeleton lying on the ground. Out of caution, Flora's followers even used a psychic technique and learned that the skeleton had died about 300 years ago, after getting lost underground and starving to death.

They then continued deeper into the cave, where the light summoned by the ring sorcerers illuminated the bizarre landscapes and natural scenery.

Water droplets cascaded from the stalactites, creating a spectacular underground waterfall within the cave. The narrow passages allowed only one person to pass at a time, and the resilient plants growing underground drew gasps of wonder from everyone. As they jumped down the underground cliff, Ellie excitedly flew alongside to provide light, while Emilia was deeply worried that large snakes might emerge from such confined spaces.

Around 10 a.m., the group blasted through the rubble blocking their path and reached the deepest part of the cave, which turned out to be a black underground lake.

"The passage is at the bottom of the lake. The next step is not to continue going underground, but to head towards the ocean."

Even Ellie could breathe underwater, so the group followed Shad into the water and then moved forward along the lakebed. Sylvie was very sensitive to seawater, and she noticed that although this underground lake was connected to the water veins beneath the snow mountain, it contained seawater components.

Claire, while walking on the lakebed, dug out a piece of exposed ore from the riverbed with her bare hands.

"siderite?"

It seems they did not go astray.

Twenty minutes later, the underwater terrain rose, and they emerged from the water and re-entered the cave. Judging from their position, they were now above the sea; the passage did indeed extend towards the ocean.

Although they hadn't encountered any danger along the way, Shad still had the team stop to rest. The space was still normal, and there were no anomalies related to the Fallen Star Beast, but the road ahead certainly wouldn't be so peaceful.

"There's actually air here that ordinary people can breathe. Where does this air come from?"

During the team's rest, Emilia curiously asked Shad, but Shad didn't know the answer either. Yet, those seemingly sealed underground ruins and ancient tombs always seemed to have air inside; perhaps this was some kind of strange fate.

The cave floor was extremely slippery, but the temperature was actually higher than on the island. After a short ten-minute rest, during which Miss Asperger inquired about Emilia's coronation—the "Winter Singer," a frequent visitor to the academy, was also familiar with Emilia—Megan then signaled the group's location to the ship, and the group continued onward.

After crossing the underground lake, the cave no longer branched out, but as they continued forward, the range of Shad's [Enhanced Spatial Perception] and the other people's perception abilities began to shrink due to the influence of an unknown force.

After walking several hundred steps forward, the rough rock walls on both sides were gradually replaced by smooth gray stone walls, which were clearly traces of a man-made passage.

"Has anyone been here before?"

Continuing onward, the "Winter Singer" in the dark blue dress said:

"This is the tomb passage. Because it is difficult to dig surface tombs in the far north, and all traces will disappear after a blizzard, the locals have fixed underground burial areas. The style here is very similar to the tomb passage of the underground communal tombs dug by the people of the far north."

"Have people from your tribe been here before?"

"I don't know, but this kind of tomb passage is actually very common in many places. Whoever built this place, it must be a tomb."

The plan before setting off had already anticipated encountering underwater ruins, and the group was not lacking in methods for dealing with the undead. Therefore, the formation of the group was changed, and Flora's followers used the magical arts of "exorcising the undead" and "investigating the dead" before the group continued forward.

As they continued forward, more features of the tomb passage became apparent, and the passage itself was quite wide. At the end of the passage was the tightly closed door of the ancient tomb, flanked by two gargoyle statues. Shad had initially worried that they might come to life, but thankfully they were just statues.

The main gate of the mausoleum is engraved with the scenery of Mount Fatumunster and the symbol of the Fatumun people.

"Is this your ancestor's tomb?"

Sylvie then asked Claire, who was actually even more puzzled than her:

“I have never heard of such a place before, and there is no description of it even in the tribal legends.”

The gate was tightly shut, locked by some ancient force. It wasn't the power of the Ring Warlock system, but it was powerless against Shad's "Key to the Gate."

He had recently encountered too many doors that the "Key to the Door" couldn't open, and now that he was pushing open the two stone doors, Shad was even a little unaccustomed to it.

The mausoleum is extremely large, just as Miss Asperger said earlier; it is not the tomb of one person but a mass burial.

Luvia's information only stated to proceed forward after crossing the underground lake, so Shad didn't know the interior of the tomb. Therefore, after entering, Bella performed a divination and decided to lead the group forward instead.

"Exploring ancient tombs and mausoleums is absolutely impossible without a diviner, so it was quite necessary for me to come along on this trip."

The decorations in the tomb felt familiar to both Miss Asperger and Claire, who could identify features from their respective tribes. Megan, however, believed that the overall style and architectural features suggested it was built at the end of the Fourth Age.

"Most of the ancient tombs of the Fourth Age have been visited by the witches of the Fifth Age, so such a well-preserved tomb is really rare."

Surprisingly, even the clowns knew something about this type of architecture:

"It is in the style of ancient mausoleums in the northern region during the mid-Fourth Era."

Of course, if this really is the tomb of Claire's ancestors, they wouldn't have come here to look for any archaeological discoveries after the Fallen Star Beast incident.

The tomb was certainly not without danger, but what they encountered were not ordinary rolling stones or poisonous smoke traps; rather, they were guarded by the tomb itself, left behind by the ancients. Gargoyles, spirits pieced together from animal skeletons, and other entities that seemed to echo with the spirits of the dead awaited them in every corner of the tomb.

There were no lights in the tomb to illuminate the living, so the group continued to let the orbs of light float around to provide illumination, while the creatures guarding the place hid in the shadows created by the light.

Not only are they adept at ambushes, but the composition of these creations is also very interesting, including not only basic materials but also ice and some metal plates with sparkling surfaces.

Megan's examination led her to believe the metal was forged from meteorite iron, while Vanessa argued it was no ordinary meteorite iron.

"I sensed a strange power from the sky. It must be the power of the stars, right? The people who built this place probably discovered some special metals near a fallen star. I just don't know what they meant by building the tomb here."

Furthermore, the ancient Fatu people were incredibly wealthy. Do you know what the price of meteorite iron containing stellar energy is today? If there really is a vein of similar metal beneath the seabed in the nearby waters, the Fatu people were practically living on a gold mine.

Perhaps due to the "star meteorites," the gargoyles and undead in the tomb possess the ability to emit silver-blue energy, and some powerful undead can even summon energy orbs out of thin air to attack them. However, they didn't cause the group too much trouble. Compared to Shad's encounter in the "Tombstone Wasteland," exploring here was like being in an amusement park.

The mausoleum was divided into three levels, upper, middle, and lower, each connected by an old-fashioned elevator—the most classic kind. There were too many people in the group, and the elevator couldn't carry everyone at once, so they had to make several trips to traverse the levels.

As for flying directly downwards, no one suggested it. Within a tomb, the wishes of its builders should be respected as much as possible; rash action could lead to unpredictable consequences.
