Chapter 3100 The Incomprehensible Curse and the Temperature of Death
"You can defeat mortal enemies, but what about gods? If I successfully summon you when I'm facing a monster, and then gods appear at this time, can you defeat them?"
Shade asked again, and this time the long-haired Luvia answered very cautiously:
"I can only answer you this way: if this world is a play on stage, then everyone is an actor, you are the audience, and the gods are the background boards that appear in the actors' mouths but never show their faces. They may be able to board the stage with an actor as a carrier, but even if you defeat the actor, you have not defeated them.
Until the end of the world, I am just an actor. Even though I am the most powerful actor, I cannot defeat gods or saints alone in the material world. Only gods can defeat gods. "
Xia De almost understood what she meant, but this gave him a new doubt:
"In that case, you probably couldn't defeat the gods head-on in your past lives. You might not have been as strong as the you I summoned with the Word of Ascension. So how did you deal with the evil gods in your past lives? Could it be that you were able to successfully stop the gods from descending every time?"
"Of course not possible."
Luvia shook her head slightly:
"Sometimes God's coming is a prerequisite for achieving a certain condition I want, and sometimes I really can't stop God's coming."
"So after God descends, will you just leave?"
Luvia looked up at him:
"Of course not. I have ways to defeat powerful mortal enemies, so I naturally have ways to fight against the gods. Of course, I don't have your ability to actively carry the gods."
"Your own power cannot reach that level, and you cannot summon God, so how can you..."
Shade became even more confused. Luvia raised a finger and placed it in front of Shade's mouth:
"I walk in the stories of the chosen ones and witness the performances of The Whispering Poems time and time again. If it is really necessary, I can pay some price to achieve the goal of 'defeating the gods'. Although I don't do this often, I can indeed achieve this goal.
You've already seen the answer, but you haven't realized it yet. Let's not talk about this, Shad, just as you won't talk to me when I'm asleep, or when I'm holding you now."
"Well, the past is indeed very complicated. Let's change the subject. After you recovered the tree heart, the [Staff of Yggdrasil] seemed to have no changes in appearance except that it became heavier."
Shade raised the question again, and Luvia answered in a brisk tone:
"The seven tree hearts are essentially the same. I just integrated them conceptually. Of course, there is still some work to be done."
She reached out to grab Shade's chest, and that hand came directly from the dream world to reality, then grabbed the key from the sleeping Shade's chest and took it into the dream:
“Leave this key with me for now. I need to process it further. Although I am considering whether I should share the power of this long staff with Emilia who has not merged with the World Tree, it won’t take too long.
Now that the staff is not with you, after you finish dealing with the aftermath of the forest, just go home and stay there obediently."
"Yes, yes, you don't need to tell me everything in the dream and in reality."
She then rubbed her cheek against Xia De's chest:
"Now, hug me for a while, my love, and watch this moment before sunset with me. Now I don't want to do anything, I just want to hug you. The hug in reality is destined to be short-lived. Only in this dream can I truly have you. Forgive me, Shade."
Xia De used his fingers to play with the strands of hair in front of her eyebrows:
"You know that I gained the power of the World Tree from its remains during this war. I want to try to use it to cure your time curse and help you break the shackles of time."
He was talking about that drop of divinity. Although he only had two drops of divinity left, he would not be stingy with this power just for Luvia.
The long-haired girl knew what he was talking about, but she didn't agree. She just buried her face deeply in Shade's arms:
"Time will treat everyone who tries to play with it equally. The curse that comes from destroying the world and playing with time is the punishment I deserve, and I accept that. Shade, keep that power. From the moment I made the first choice, I can't turn back."
Xia De continued to gently stroke her hair:
"Since you don't want to now, then when we finish all the stories and turn the last page of the epic of Whispering Verses, will you be willing to let me help you remove this curse?"
"willing."
Her voice was already very low, and the next sentence was only audible to her:
"If, then, you are still willing to forgive me."
This time, it was not Shad who took the initiative to end the meeting in the dream, but Luvia who was sleeping in reality woke up on her own initiative and reminded Shad with sleepy eyes that it was time to go to the dead to save Sister Defulin:
"We'll meet in the banquet hall later. I'm not having any other problems except that I'm a little sleepy. You go see the nun, and I'll go see if Carina needs any help. Most people are recuperating now, so the ship should be short of manpower. I'll take care of Mia, so don't always take her to dangerous places."
The entrance to the tranquil waters opened by Sister Defulin was certainly not in the cabin. No matter how powerful the "Glory Messenger" was, its internal space could not accommodate such a passage.
So Shade came to the deck in advance according to the note left by Grace. At this moment, the sun was rising, shining brightly on the silver forest. The smoke of war had not yet dissipated, but now that the night was over, it seemed that it would be quiet here for a while.
At 7:30, as soon as the black crack appeared, Shade rushed in. Although his luck had become worse, it was not a big mistake. Behind the crack was the shallows before death. There was a bonfire burning on the shallows. Grace and Helen sat together in front of the fire. When they saw Shade coming, they waved to him.
"Is it okay for you to come in here?"
In this space that is not actually real, "talking" itself is more like communication between souls, so Xia De's concern was immediately known to the Red Butterfly sisters. Seeing that Xia De did not ask about the nuns' situation first but cared about them, Helen, who was wearing a black dress, smiled even sweeter:
"Sir, with the protection of Sister Defulin's strong flame, it's okay for now. We have been here and have not moved forward."
Grace in the white dress, who is much more mature than her sister, told Shade about the current situation:
"Helen and I helped to guide and disperse the fire on the nun, but that was only temporary. Sir, she is ahead, dying. You should accept more of Sister Defulin's fire, otherwise she will be burned and become crazy."
Xia De suddenly remembered what he knew about Sister Defulin's past life:
"I see. Please wait for a moment. I will bring the nun back and we will go back to eat together. Carina and Luvia are preparing breakfast."
"Ok sir."
Helen said as she opened her arms towards Xia De. After Xia De bent down knowingly, the sisters in black and white dresses kissed Xia De on the side of his face:
"Thank you for your hard work this time, sir."
Sister Defulin's position could be seen at a glance because there was a fire there. Although the dark moon shone here, it was still very dark in death. She was facing the dark moon with her back to the shallows, kneeling on the water, lowering her head and looking like she was holding something. That should be the first fire, after all, the fire had already appeared.
Shade left the shallows and stepped onto the water. After shivering for a while and adapting to the cold, he continued to move forward. The pure white souls passed by the nun silently, and as Shade approached the nun, he saw that in addition to the faint rippling flames around the nun, her whole body had already shown the state of "first fire embers".
This state was obviously wrong, because when Shad came close to the nun, he actually felt a heat in death.
He walked around the nun and came in front of her. As expected, in her hands was the flame with a black flame core. Her face was expressionless at the moment, but there were fiery red cracks on her mithril eye mask, and even her face had flame cracks like broken porcelain.
The hands holding the flames were also severely burned. When Shad's hand held her hand in the fire, Sister Defulin trembled a little, but still kept her head down.
"Hero of the Fire, can't you feel the heat?"
She asked, and although her voice was still as ethereal as usual, this time it showed a little bit of vulnerability.
"There are some, but nothing serious."
Xia De knelt on one knee in front of the sitting nun. The cold feeling after his knee touched the water almost froze his body, but the fire that his hands touched provided enough heat:
"Sister holding the fire, please share the flame with me again."
Sister Defulin then raised her head. Fine red cracks covered the mithril eye mask. The moon mark that passed through her left eye gradually appeared between the cracks on her face. The silver moonlight could not conceal the red flames, but it made the nun, who seemed to have a sense of calm and madness because of the flames, look somewhat holy.
At this moment, the dark moon was behind Shade, and the silver moonlight looked like him. Sister Defulin seemed to be "watching" him, and after a few seconds, she nodded gently:
"Please touch the darkness within me."
A portion of the flame held in the nun's palm flowed out and entered Shade's body along his arms. Then fiery red cracks also appeared on his body, but they only appeared for a moment before being suppressed by the silver moonlight around him.
PS: As usual, there will be an extra update on the first day of the Lunar New Year (five to ten updates, not sure), which is the 29th of this month. I hope this volume can be completed by then (not certain).
There are two more CGs later, but I haven’t decided whether to put one of them in this volume or at the beginning of the next volume.
