Chapter 590 I’m a Doctor!
Chapter 590 I’m a Doctor!
Just then, Yang Qi heard Liao Fusheng’s voice. "Zhang Biao, don’t blame me for not giving you face. We’re buddies who fought and grew up together, and I don’t mind what else you say, but I will not allow you to talk about my woman like that!
"She never thought of leaving me, even when I was at my lowest. Now that she’s been diagnosed with such a disease, how could I possibly abandon her?
"Would I even be human?"
Zhang Biao replied, "Fine, you’re the loyal and righteous hero, and I, Zhang Biao, am heartless, is that it? But you have to face reality. A heartless person like me couldn’t compare to you back then, but what about now? I drive a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, live in a villa worth over a hundred million, and own twelve hotels.
"And you? You’re so loyal and dutiful, and you stood by your former boss’s family through thick and thin. So what? Look where it’s gotten you. You’re down to just one hotel.
"Besides, you probably borrowed the money for it, right? At a high interest rate, too. Why bother?"
"Alright, I’m not going to argue with you," Liao Fusheng said. "If you came to congratulate me, then sit down and have a drink before you leave. If you’re here to cause trouble, then get lost. I, Liao Fusheng, have no friend like you."
"Do you really think I care?" Zhang Biao retorted. "If I hadn’t heard Chairman Tong was coming, do you think I’d give a damn?"
A fire ignited in Yang Qi’s heart. He knew this Zhang Biao. They were from the same university, though not the same class. Zhang Biao had loved to fight and was always getting into brawls. Once, when he was surrounded, it was Liao Fusheng who came to his rescue. Liao Fusheng had even ended up in the hospital because of it. Zhang Biao had been quite loyal back then.
How could he have changed so much after all these years? To become so mean and unreasonable... Coming to cause trouble at someone’s grand reopening banquet?
"Qi! What are you doing here!" At that moment, Liao Fusheng saw Yang Qi. He was stunned for a moment before hurrying over. "It’s good that you came! Come, sit down. Today’s the grand reopening of my hotel. Eat and drink your fill."
Zhang Biao seemed to recognize Yang Qi as well and couldn’t help but laugh. "Heh, if it isn’t our school’s top student. Was that you in a taxi just now? I thought you’d started a business and made it big. Turns out you can’t even afford a car? You’re in your late twenties, right? It’s been years since you graduated. How did you end up so pathetic? You’ve got the gall to show up and freeload? Your nose is pretty sharp, I’ll give you that."
As he spoke, Zhang Biao deliberately flashed the car keys on his belt and the Rolex on his wrist, looking incredibly smug.
Yang Qi’s brow furrowed. "Zhang, I don’t recall us having any grudges. Why start with the insults the moment we meet? What, you’ve made it big and already forgotten how Brother Liao saved your life? And it wasn’t just once, was it? Besides, you should probably thank me for tutoring you so you could graduate. Is this how you repay people?"
Zhang Biao snorted coldly and said nothing more, perhaps feeling a pang of guilt.
Just then, a woman walked out from inside, holding a glass of wine. "You must be Brother Yang. Fusheng has told me everything. Without you, we would never have been able to keep this hotel. I’d like to propose a toast to you!"
Yang Qi looked at the woman. She had very delicate features and a graceful demeanor; she was definitely attractive, but her complexion was sallow, a clear symptom of her illness. She looked frail enough to be blown away by a gust of wind and carried the faint scent of medicine.
"You must be my sister-in-law?" Yang Qi asked, looking at Liao Fusheng.
"Yes, this is your sister-in-law," Liao Fusheng said proudly. "We haven’t had the ceremony, but we’re legally married. She’s the woman I’m going to spend the rest of my life with."
"A pity she’s about to die!" Zhang Biao sneered from the side.
"I’m gonna beat the crap out of you!" Liao Fusheng raged.
"Save it," Zhang Biao mocked. "You have internal injuries. The slightest use of your Inner Strength will send excruciating pain through your body. You can’t fight."
"If you’re sick, you get treated. What’s all this talk about dying? As it happens, I’m a doctor. Why don’t you let me take a look?" Yang Qi said with a smile.
"Thank you so much, Brother Yang. But my illness isn’t a common one. Fusheng has hired many famous doctors, but none of them could cure it. I appreciate the thought, though," the woman said politely, clearly having lost hope regarding her condition.
Yang Qi simply smiled. He didn’t need to explain anything; he knew with certainty that he could treat her. In fact, he had already identified what illness his sister-in-law was suffering from.
"Heh, you’re right not to let him treat you," Zhang Biao mocked again. "Does he really think studying medical research makes him a doctor? More likely he’s just using that bit of knowledge to be a Jianghu charlatan."
Yang Qi couldn’t be bothered with him.
This guy must have taken too many hits to the head. Why else would he stop acting like a human and start behaving like a dog?
"Qi, don’t mind him," Liao Fusheng said quickly. "He’s changed so much over the years. Something happened... I barely recognize him anymore."
"I don’t argue with idiots." Yang Qi glanced at Zhang Biao dismissively. I haven’t even settled the score for what he did at the door, and now he’s pulling this crap. What a moron.
"What did you just say, you punk! You got the guts to tell me which hospital you work at? Believe it or not, I can have you fired immediately!" Zhang Biao roared.
"I don’t work in a hospital. Sorry to disappoint you," Yang Qi replied with a smile.
"Not in a hospital? Hahaha, so you were just bluffing! Look at you, you’ve got a decent education, so why do you love going around scamming people? I’ve seen plenty of your type. You heard Fusheng’s wife was sick, so you came to cheat him out of his money, right? You might be able to fool Liao Fusheng, but you can’t fool me, Zhang Biao!" Zhang Biao sneered.
The surrounding guests all turned to look at Yang Qi, whispering and pointing among themselves. They clearly believed Zhang Biao’s accusations. A long-lost classmate suddenly appearing, claiming to be a doctor but not working in any hospital—how could he be anything but a scammer? Their whispers grew louder, turning into open accusations.
"Young man, learn some decency. Old Liao is your classmate; you can’t cheat him."
"Exactly, it’s such an obvious lie. We can all see through it. I bet Old Liao does too, he’s just too kind to expose you."
"He looks decent enough, but he’s rotten on the inside."
"Pah! A real wolf in sheep’s clothing! Calls himself a doctor? More like a vet!"
"Old Liao, just kick this fraud out! What a piece of trash."
Zhang Biao watched Yang Qi with a triumphant look, as if he had already won.
"All of you, shut the hell up!" Liao Fusheng exploded. "You don’t know a damn thing! Anyone who dares slander my brother again can get the hell out of here! I don’t care if not a single guest is left at this banquet, I will not let you people insult my friend!"
He was well aware that aside from a few who were genuinely happy for him, most of the guests had come for Chairman Tong. As the head of the Sea City Chamber of Commerce, Chairman Tong wielded considerable power, and currying favor with him offered immense business advantages.
