Chapter 533: Test Of Mind
Chapter 533: Test Of Mind
Chiron rested against his broad sword, the heavy blade buried deep in the ground, providing a momentary support for his exhausted frame. A poignant mix of blood and sweat dripped from his body, staining the ground beneath him. Around him lay the corpses of Lustbloods, so numerous that he was kneeling on a plateau of the dead.
They had come in relentless waves. He had started counting at first, but after reaching fifty, he stopped. There was no need. His arms and limbs had moved so much that his body itself had become a weapon. He could feel his muscles polishing themselves, his fighting technique sharpening with each swing of his sword, and his muscles fine-tuning to the extreme.
Every part of his body moved in perfect harmony, executing his techniques with lethal precision.
As he built significant muscle, he also lost a significant amount of fat, leaving him looking exceptionally toned. This was the essence of the Test of Body: it literally shaped the individual by pushing the body to its limits through battle. Scars crisscrossed his body from the many cuts inflicted by the Lustbloods, but he did not stop.
The tome he took from the bear mother’s shrine in Vandoria had said that this place could not be tricked; each wave was calibrated to the exact amount or ratio that the individual could handle and push to grow. As long as one had the will to keep moving, the challenges would continue to appear.
Chiron had lost track of time within the Fog of Unbounded Demise, but several things had occurred. His fate points had dropped significantly, and despite his spiritual energy dropping back to the Copper rank, its rules still haunted him.
Even though he had been fighting all this while, as he tempered his body through battles, he also tempered his dantian through the flow of energy within his meridians. For this reason, he was losing his fate points in response to not paying the greed dues that stated that he had to steal something of value daily.
But that did not matter now.
Now, another wave appeared before him, fewer than ever. He roughly counted twenty of them. Drawing a deep breath, he stood up, gripping his broad sword tightly. A dark aura surrounded him, swirling like black, evil spirits. Red flames flickered at the edges of this deathly aura, casting a chilling light on the scene.@@@@
The first Lustblood lunged at him with a feral snarl, but Chiron was ready. With a swift, fluid motion, he swung his broad sword, the blade slicing through the air with a deadly whistle. The Lustblood’s head flew from its shoulders, its body collapsing in a heap.
The others hesitated, but only for a moment. They attacked in a coordinated rush, but Chiron was a whirlwind of steel and death.
His sword cleaved through flesh and bone with merciless efficiency, and the dark aura around him seemed to feed on the carnage, growing darker and more intense. The red flames flared with each kill, their heat scorching the ground and leaving charred remains in their wake.
Chiron moved like a specter of death, each strike precise and lethal. He parried blows, countered attacks, and cut down his foes with a relentless fury. The Lustbloods’ numbers dwindled rapidly under his onslaught. His death aura swirled around him, almost sentient, guiding his movements and lending a supernatural edge to his strikes.
The place was incredibly familiar to him. He was under a bridge, his old world, the place where he used to sleep. The bridge’s concrete structure loomed above, and around him, piles of trash and discarded items littered the ground. The smell was almost overwhelming, a mix of rotting food, urine, and the unmistakable stench of despair.
Homeless people huddled in makeshift shelters, their eyes hollow and bodies frail. Some were sleeping on the ground, wrapped in tattered blankets, while others sat hunched over, their faces lined with exhaustion and hopelessness. Chiron could hear their muttered conversations, the clink of bottles, and the occasional cough.
The thief scurried away, disappearing into the shadows. Chiron’s heart pounded as he took in the scene. The bridge, the people, the smells – it was all so real. His memories flooded back, each detail as vivid as the day he left this world behind. The familiarity of it all was jarring, like being thrown back in time.
He took a deep breath, the acrid air filling his lungs, and steadied himself. It was so real that for a moment, he could not help but whisper, "Fate Change System?"
The familiar clinging was heard and the system interface appeared. He could help but take a huge breath in relief.
the test of mind was supposed to test the extremes of his mind. From the looks of it, he had been plunged into a dream like world or an illusion.
However, this illusion was not strong enough to counter the power of the Fate change system, if not, even Chiron could almost believe that maybe the life he had lived so far had all been a joke. After all, when he was in this world, he had been thought to be mad, because of the dreams he had of the other world in his book.
Back then, the dreams had become so vivid that he did not even know what was real and what was not. Seeing through the Mc’s eyes and feeling all he felt had nearly emptied him of all reasoning.
If he had truly woken up back on earth, he might have truly ran mad. Chiron could not help but think that this Fog of unbounded demise was really formidable, going into his mind to bring out this world and use it against him.
This was a new challenge, a test of his mind. The physical battles had pushed his body to the brink, but this – this was something different.
Even his swords were gone, and his hands were healed as well as every part of his body. he held his hands together. He had lost a hand, after fighting the orc that came for revenge. But now, he had it back.
Chiron could not help but chuckle at this. After all, if this was all the test was going to bring, then it was as good as done.
However, he suddenly heard a voice that came from behind him, "Ron ron, guess what!? The Publishers accepted your novel."
That voice, Chiron could not help but pause and turn slowly... his heart, beating heavily in his chest.
