Chapter 418: Mission In The Beast Kingdom
Chapter 418: Mission In The Beast Kingdom
The dusty wind blew hard against their terribly made clothes.
Slowly and surely, they reached the border gates. However, the doors were not made open to them. Instead, the Beast men on the stone walls looked at them strangely. some of them even pointing their weapons below.
"Who goes there?" One of the guards questioned in a stern tone.
Captain Timi immediately pulled down his scarf. "Please, help us. We are are refugees... Our village got attacked at night, and we... we have nowhere else to go!"
The guard on the wall was camel man. He looked at Captain Timi, "A Cat-man?" He asked in surprise.
Captain Timi nodded.
The Camel-man was at a lose for words.
He contemplated whether to attack or not.
"Please, we have wounded amongst us. They are in need of medical attention." Captain timi pointed to few amongst them that were carried on stretchers. many of them had bloody wounds.
The guard nodded, "wait right there. I’ll get the commander."
Captain Timi nodded as he waited.
He exchanged subtle eye contacts with the others. All of them remained silent, and some even faked wiping.
A few minutes later, the gates rumbled as they were pulled open each to the other side.
A Gorilla-man dressed in proud military robes stepped forward with other camel-men behind him. Even though this place was dry and windy, he had a thick cigar in his mouth.
He walked over to Captain Timi and the others. The presence that came with his arrival was a terrifying one. He literally oozed violence and bloodshed.
This was something that instinctively put fear in those around him. A bloody presence that could only be achieved with years and years of bloodshed on the brutal battlefield.
The steps of this Gorrilla-man commander were heavy. he walked over to the so called refugees. His eyes scanning them critically. After all, this was the border not just between two nations but two species that could never find peace with one another.
He stopped in front of captain Timi. By the commander’s side laid a sword.
The commander removed the sword with a sharp slashing motion. And in that Moment, Captain Timi wanted to move. His years of military service pushing him to dodge the attack.
However, he bit down on his tongue as he refused both his training and years of experience all at once.
His eyes shut together, in expectancy of the inevitable. However, it never came.
All he felt was the cold touch of metal against his neck.
slowly, he opened his eyes only to meet the bright smile of the commander.
The gorilla commander chuckled loudly, and the Camel-men behind him joined in his laughter.
Once through the border, Captain timi and the others had done has they were instructed to do.
Of course they were Army soldiers that came to extort them of their valuables, but they were soon allowed into the country.
Once in, the next phase of the plan began.
Emma told the Captain her farewell as she used her charms to secure a ride for herself and her so called pet, Hunter.
Even at the border, the Gorilla commander could not help but flirt with her continually.
In truth, Emma was tempted to take a bite out of him, but she had to hold back her hunger. Chiron had ordered that she only fed specifically on the people he directed.
Her aim was the marine armies at the ocean.
From the border to that part of the country, it would be a three days journey by both land and air of course.
The beast Kingdom was divided in such a manner that each region hand its dominating Beast kinds and the lesser counter parts.
Although they were called a nation, they were truly poor. This was the first impression that Dylan had of these people.
The wealthy of their society horded most of the resources, giving the weaker beast kinds only peanuts to enjoy. And on top of that, they had to be grateful for those peanuts.
The mission was on. No matter what it took, they had to do it.
However, only a day into these lands and seeing the way they lived, Dylan had started to have a wavering heart.
This was something he could not help. At the moment, he sat in a carriage. These carriage carried both him and his team on their journey to the far side as Chiron had instructed.
In total, there were ten of them.
But there did not travel all in the same carriage, sharing themselves evenly amongst six carriages.
This meant that he shared this carriage with other beast people. Most of whom were old and sickly. Looking at their appearances and their suffering, he could not help but have his heart moved.
This was most especially true because of the little girl that had currently warmed up to his presence.
From the moment they had gotten on the carriage, she had been staring at him, and in turn and amusement, he had made faces at her.
Her smile was very refreshing to stare at. He even found himself sharing a bit of the bread he had been given at the border with her.
She traveled with an old woman. One, he assumed was her grand mother.
Unlike he and his men, they were the true refugees. People with no home anywhere in the world that had managed to escape the pursuit and criticism of humans into this supposed haven for their kind.
From what he gathered, it had not been easy up till this point, but they had endured, and now, they were going to start their lives anew.
As she snuggled up to him to sleep, it happened...
