Can you explain Chapter 59?
Can you explain Chapter 59?
"What happened?"
Krom frowned, stood up, and leaned closer to examine the potted plant.
When his gaze fell on the contact surface between the planter base and the table, he gasped in shock!
He was shocked to discover that, in a blind spot... the piece of dead wood that served as the base had silently cracked open sometime during the night.
Thick, emerald-green tree roots had pierced through the base and embedded themselves inside his wooden desk!
The roots even spread down the table legs, showing a tendency to merge with the wooden floor underneath.
This test bonsai, which had been locked away by high-level sealing runes for over a decade...
It has miraculously "come back to life" and is now frantically spreading its roots outwards.
"What...what's going on?"
Krom exclaimed in shock, "This was a test spirit wood given to me personally by the wood-element elder! How could it have gone out of control so quietly?!"
He hurriedly reached out his fingers and stroked the intricate runes on the withered wooden base.
To their horror, they discovered that although the physical carving of the runes was still there, the runes themselves seemed to have completely failed, leaving only pale carving marks.
Krom was stunned.
The scene from just now flashed through his mind like lightning...
It's that young man named Rom!
He was the only one who touched this plant!
"What did he do?"
"I've kept this potted plant safe and sound for over ten years, and just one touch from him broke the seal on the runes, allowing it to revert to its natural growth instincts?!"
The more Crom thought about it, the more uneasy he felt.
It's important to know that wood-based magic is a discipline that places the greatest emphasis on "talent and affinity".
Unlike wind, fire, thunder, and light spells, which can be learned by rote memorization, the wood element belongs to nature. People who are not born with a high affinity for nature will never be able to resonate with plants, no matter how hard they study for a lifetime.
Could it be... that seemingly powerless young man not only knows wood-based magic, but can also break seals?
With trembling hands, Krom gently stroked the thick, gnarled roots of the Spiritwood.
He used his perception to find out the problem with the runes malfunctioning.
With his exceptional affinity for nature, he keenly sensed an extremely faint yet incredibly clear emotional fluctuation emanating from within the Spirit Breath Wood.
It's the emotion of this Spirit Tree...
Within the Spirit Wood, he felt an unprecedented sense of ease and a joy that came from finally being able to grow freely.
Even he, who was experiencing this emotion, felt much more relaxed.
Krom was completely stunned.
He stared blankly at the seedling on the table, whose appearance had not yet changed drastically, but whose internal vitality was already erupting like a volcano.
"Feel sorry……"
Krom's eyes softened instantly as he gently stroked the tender leaves, murmuring to himself.
"It seems I've been imprisoning you in this tiny box, using you as a tool... We pride ourselves on being the masters of nature, yet we've deprived you of the right to become a towering tree..."
While reflecting on this, a thought suddenly occupied Krom's mind.
"That Rom... could he really be a [Born with a Magic Soul]?!"
Krom suddenly realized that the words of praise written by Cassius in his letter might not be the delusions of an old man, but rather a statement.
I just kicked him out.
He even wrote a letter himself...
"Manman!!!"
Krom burst out of the door and strode after his assistant, who was heading to the rooftop.
"Professor? What's wrong?" Manman was startled, still holding the letter in her hand.
"I was just on my way to deliver your letter..."
Crom snatched the letter away and, in front of his assistant, tore it to shreds in an instant. He then crumpled it into a ball and stuffed it into his pocket.
Manman covered her mouth in surprise. She had been with the professor for five years and had never seen this professor, who was always known for his elegance, so out of control and even somewhat comical.
"Cough cough..."
Krom coughed awkwardly twice, forcibly straightened his collar, and tried to regain some of his elegant demeanor.
"Don't send any more letters."
"Um...you go and bring that young man named Luo Mu back to me right now."
Less than ten minutes later, Luo Mu and his two companions, who had only walked a short distance, were hurriedly invited back.
This time, Professor Crom did not sit behind his large rattan desk.
He actually stood at the entrance of the office, his tall, straight figure leaning slightly forward, his eyes filled with urgency.
"Is there anything else, Professor Krom?" Elena asked the professor, somewhat puzzled.
"Oh, it's nothing serious!"
Krom forcibly suppressed his inner turmoil and waved his hand in an extremely amicable manner.
"Manman, take Elena and this mage Jack to the reception room next door and bring out my treasured jar of 'Morning Dew Flower Tea' so they can have some more snacks and rest. I need to speak with Rom alone."
Jack and Elena exchanged a glance, somewhat confused, but still followed Manman to the next room.
The heavy oak door to the office was closed.
Only two people remained in the room.
Before Rom could even sit down, Crom could no longer maintain his elegant professorial demeanor. He strode over to the desk and, incredibly, squatted down beside the wildly growing roots of the Spiritwood plant.
He pointed with trembling fingers to the thick roots that had pierced through the solid wood tabletop and become one with the floor, his voice trembling with emotion:
"Rom, tell me... how did you do that?!"
Luo Mu glanced at the Spirit Breath Tree, which was growing as vigorously as a weed, and was somewhat surprised.
He knew he had deleted the "locked-up" code patch, but he didn't expect the plant's hardware growth to rebound so rapidly once it was freed from the software seal.
Facing Krom's burning gaze, Rom smiled slightly, walked to the table, and instead of admitting it directly, he dodged the question:
"I didn't do anything, Professor."
When I touched it, I sensed that the magical runes that originally bound it seemed to have some structural flaws that prevented it from absorbing free magic.
I simply followed its natural growth instincts and slightly... guided and modified the direction of those runes.
"Slight modifications?! Ridiculous!"
Krom stood up abruptly and retorted decisively:
"That is a [Binding Lock] carved by an elder! It is extremely complex! Even I could not unlock it without damaging the entire plant's magic circuit!"
How could you, an apprentice who hasn't received proper training in wood-based magic, possibly do that?
Luo Mu knew that this old scholar was not easy to fool, and if he didn't offer some solid advice, the other party would definitely keep going on and on.
