Chapter 24 Encryption Protocol
Chapter 24 Encryption Protocol
Luo Mu frowned, his expression not looking good.
While he was flipping through the light-based spell runes in his notebook, he was also rapidly decompiling them using the system in his mind.
However, no matter what commands he entered, all the spells that were scanned were displayed as lines of unreadable gibberish at the output:
[Error! Compilation failed!]
[This code snippet has been detected as being encapsulated and encrypted using a "key"!]
[A core authorization file with higher privileges is required to decipher it.]
……
"Dry."
"The spell... is encrypted?"
Luo Mu looked at the garbled text and felt puzzled.
This was the first time he had encountered such a situation.
"Why is it only light elemental spells that behave this way?"
He turned his head sharply, and there was Elena sitting obediently in a chair with her hands on her knees.
However, her eyes were slightly closed and her head was nodding, as if she was about to fall asleep.
Rom asked in a deep voice, "Elena, where did you learn these spells when you were learning light magic? How were they taught?"
Elena was jolted awake by the question and immediately came to her senses.
She rubbed her eyes and answered truthfully:
"It was Teacher Cassius who taught me. The lineage of us Light Mage is extremely strict. The earliest spells and incantations were all taught to us personally by the cardinals of the Holy See during our baptism ceremony, after we went to the Holy See in the Central District."
Upon returning, his teacher Cassius repeatedly guided and corrected his pronunciation before it could be recorded in his journal.
After listening, Luo Mu looked at the irregular, distorted symbols on the book, and suddenly a flash of inspiration struck him, and he understood everything in an instant.
A direct disciple of the Vatican?
I see…
This light-based spell is essentially a set of spells monopolized by the Holy See or the guild's higher-ups, much like a "closed-source software".
Cracking the encryption is not impossible; all you need is the complete set of keys.
However, the key will certainly not be contained in a single spell, but should be included in the entire spell system.
"...Is this why light-element mages are so rare?"
No wonder that in this world, wandering mages and evil wizards come in all kinds of elements, but wild light mages are rarely seen.
The Holy See and its high-ranking officials have established such a rigorous system to protect the inheritance of light magic.
Rom was unwilling to give up. He quickly flipped through his notes again, trying to forcefully check the other light element spells he had entered using the system.
[Target scan: Holy Light spell... Decryption failed]
[Target scan: "The Light of Resurrection"... Decryption failed]
[Target scan: "The Spear of Judgment"... Decryption failed]
[Target scan: "Lightwing Technique"... Decryption failed]
All advanced attack and high-level support spells are just deadlocked gibberish.
It's impossible to parse, let alone modify or optimize.
"Was all that work for nothing tonight?"
Just as Rom was feeling somewhat unwilling, he remembered the first spell he had recorded beside Elena: [Holy Healing].
[Beginner Level - Holy Healing]
[Logic optimization cannot be performed.]
Rom opened the editor and viewed the code for the Lay on Hands spell.
It's all gibberish.
There was simply no way to begin.
"Cannot be modified, but it seems to run...?"
Rom's eyes lit up.
Perhaps it's because this is just a basic healing spell, and the Vatican's encryption level is a little low, or perhaps it's because the system captured the complete execution logic when Elena cast the spell on the city wall tonight.
In short, this spell is barely usable.
However, the cost was considerable.
Since it was a jumble of gibberish, I had no idea which sentences were nonsense and which were the core information.
Therefore, Rom cannot, like he did with optimizing the Fireball spell, remove the unnecessary words from it.
This forces the system to force-run this long and garbled gibberish, resulting in:
Running a single [Holy Healing] spell will consume a full 30 points of mental energy.
For Rom, who has always pursued the lowest possible energy consumption, this was like cutting off a piece of his own flesh.
"Fine... if it can't be changed, it can't be changed. As long as it works, it's fine."
Rom sighed, closed the magic book that he both loved and hated, and handed it back to Elena.
It seems that the only way to truly master light magic and completely crack this encryption system is to make a trip to the Red Dragon City Mage Guild headquarters, or even the Holy See.
Although we haven't been able to obtain the complete Light-based language library yet, we've mastered the "Holy Healing" spell, so old man Hamelin's life has been saved.
Luo Mu rubbed his slightly swollen eyes.
"Tonight's trip was worthwhile."
Seeing Rom's tired appearance, Elena assumed he was exhausted from casting spells earlier and asked with concern:
"Do you want to sleep here for a while? I'll stay here."
Luo Mu had just finished a high-intensity coding session, and his brain was still in a short-circuit state. Upon hearing this, he turned around and blurted out:
"Will you sleep with me?"
The voice just fell.
He then realized that he had misunderstood.
Elena clearly meant that she would stay here so that she could rest in peace.
"..."
Elena was stunned for a full two seconds after hearing Rom's blunt words.
Immediately, a blush spread from the base of her neck to the tips of her ears.
She lowered her head in a fluster, nervously twisting her robes as she explained:
"I...I didn't mean that! You...you've misunderstood!"
Romú actually wanted to say the same thing.
It doesn't matter anymore, it's all the same no matter what anyone says.
The spacious hall of the mages became incredibly quiet.
How embarrassing...
Rom even started to consider using the [Windwalk] spell to jump out of the window.
Just then, a violent commotion suddenly broke out outside the door.
"Hey! You can't come in! This is the mage's attic! Wait a minute!"
It was Jack's shout.
Immediately afterwards, there was a series of loud banging on the door.
The door seemed to have been forced open a few inches, and Jack's voice squeezed in through the crack:
"Rom! Get dressed quickly! Someone's coming!"
"..."
What are you going to wear? I haven't even taken my clothes off yet!
The way you're shouting makes it sound like I've actually done something shady in this monk's pavilion.
"Squeak."
The heavy door was slowly pushed open.
Jack was seen being shoved aside by two guards like a chick.
Immediately afterwards, the guards escorted a middle-aged man dressed in a blue silk robe as he strode in.
Luo Mu glanced at it casually.
The newcomer had styled blond curly hair, and his facial features were seven or eight parts similar to Kevin's, except that his eyes were more deep and he had a few more wrinkles.
Luo Mu immediately guessed the other party's identity.
They are definitely his biological children.
"Mayor." Elena bowed slightly in greeting.
The mayor nodded, his gaze immediately locking onto Luo Mu, who was standing by the table, and a warm smile instantly spread across his face.
"It seems that this is the great hero who saved Silver Town tonight, the mage Rom from the border."
