092, Sacrifice to Flame
092, Sacrifice to Flame
Guarding the national treasury are four white-haired old men, each emanating unfathomable magical energy.
Xin Lai roughly sensed that the level of these four people was at least level 60 or above.
They saw Bermelt, bowed slightly, but said nothing.
Bermilt took a golden key from his pocket and inserted it into the keyhole in the center of the iron gate. The moment the key turned, all the magical runes on the iron gate lit up and emitted a buzzing sound.
Then, the heavy iron gate slowly opened, revealing a deep passage inside.
"You go in alone," Bermelt said. "Your father is waiting for you outside. You can choose anything in the treasury, except for those few forbidden items in the deepest part."
Xinlai nodded and stepped into the passageway.
The iron gate behind them slowly closed, plunging the passage into darkness. But soon, the magic lamps on the walls automatically lit up, illuminating the path ahead.
The passage was long; it took Xinlai about three minutes to walk to a huge circular hall.
The hall's dome soars high, adorned with portraits of past kings of the Golden Glow Royal Family.
The surrounding walls are inlaid with countless grids, each containing different items.
Some compartments contain glittering jewels, some contain glowing magic scrolls, and some contain magic crystals of various colors.
But that wasn't Sinlai's goal. He headed straight for the weapons section at the far end of the hall.
The weapons section occupied an entire wall, stretching from the ground to the dome, and was divided into dozens of layers.
Each floor is filled with all kinds of weapons: longswords, short swords, greatswords, rapiers, axes, warhammers, spears, bows and arrows... you name it.
Each weapon radiates a different colored magical light; some are bright, some are dim, some are gentle, and some are sharp.
Sinlai's gaze swept over the weapons, but her mind was filled with the account in "The Elegy of Asgard".
In this game, the Golden Royal Family's treasury contains many legendary weapons.
Due to their age and poor storage, most of the weapons have been downgraded by one or two levels.
If we could find a weapon that was originally legendary but has now been downgraded to epic, and pair it with the Tide Core, we should be able to recapture the weapon's former glory.
He began to slowly walk around the weapons section, carefully examining each weapon.
Bermelt waited outside, but he wasn't in a hurry.
Since his father told him to take his time choosing, he did.
The first tier consists of ordinary weapons, with the highest quality being only "fine".
jump over.
The second tier is slightly better, with a few rare weapons, but Xinlai's goal is at least epic, so let's skip that.
On the third level, an epic weapon finally appeared. Xinlai stopped to examine it closely.
The first one was a two-handed greatsword with flame patterns engraved on its blade, radiating a scorching red light.
Xinlai reached out and touched it, immediately sensing the violent fire element contained within the sword.
This sword, named "Flame Judgment," is a standard epic weapon in Asgard's Lament, featuring fire damage and a burning effect.
The attributes are good, but they're not what he wants.
Keep going.
The second weapon is an ice-blue rapier called "Frostthorn," also an epic weapon, with frost damage and a slowing effect.
Xinlai shook his head. Although the sword was not bad, it was still far from the legendary weapon he had imagined.
Bermilt's voice came from somewhere, echoing in the hall: "The silver spear in the third row on the left is called 'Dragon Slayer,' and it used to be the spear of a dragon-slaying warrior."
Although its grade has decreased, its sharpness remains undiminished.
Xin Lai looked in the direction of the sound and indeed saw a long spear with flowing silver light, and the dragon pattern could be vaguely seen on the tip of the spear.
He walked over and gripped the gun handle; it was indeed nice, but a long gun wasn't his style.
He prefers swords.
"Father, let me take another look."
"No rush, take your time choosing."
Xinlai continued deeper into the area. The fourth floor, the fifth floor, the sixth floor…
He looked at them one by one, but still couldn't find a weapon he liked.
Bermilt spoke again: "On the top floor, there is a dagger called 'Shadow Thorn,' which was the personal weapon of the former Assassin's Guild Master."
It is said to have a stealth effect, making it extremely rare.
Xinlai looked up and saw a black dagger in the corner of the top floor, exuding a cold aura.
He shook his head; the dagger was too short for direct combat.
He continued until he reached the top level of the weapons section.
There were several antique-looking weapons on display, each covered in a thick layer of dust, clearly untouched for a long time.
Xinlai looked up and her gaze fell on a long sword in the far corner.
The longsword was entirely black, with no decorations on its scabbard, and looked completely unremarkable.
But when Xinlai saw it for the first time, her heart skipped a beat.
He leaped up and reached out to take the longsword.
The moment the sword touched his hand, a scorching heat flowed into his body through the hilt.
Xinlai took a deep breath and slowly drew her longsword.
The sword was as black as ink, but the moment it was drawn from its sheath, dark red patterns appeared, like magma flowing underground.
The blade was not sharp, and was even somewhat blunt, but the magical energy emanating from the blade was exceptionally strong.
Bermilt seemed to sense something, his voice tinged with surprise: "You took the 'Sacrificial Flame'?"
"Yes, Father."
After a moment of silence, Bermilt said, "That sword... if I remember correctly, was brought back by the late king from the ruins of the Balrog six hundred years ago. At that time, the sword was of extremely high quality, said to have reached the legendary level."
But for some unknown reason, the power within the sword gradually dissipated, and now it's probably only at the epic level.
Xinlai gripped the sword hilt, feeling the scorching heat emanating from the blade: "I know."
"Then why did you choose it?" Bermilt asked, puzzled. "There's a 'Holy Light Judgment' on the left side of the weapons section. It was a gift from the Church to the Golden Radiance Royal Family. It's also an epic weapon, and it deals extra damage to dark creatures."
The third sword from the right, "Whisper of the Wind," has an extremely fast attack speed, perfect for an agile swordsman like you. And—"
"Father," Xinlai interrupted him, her tone firm, "I want this one."
Bermilt was silent for a moment, seemingly considering his words: "Sinlai, it's not that Father is reluctant to part with this sword. It's just that the sword's power has been constantly diminishing, and it might become rare or even lower in a few decades."
Are you sure you want to choose a weapon that's past its prime?
Xinlai held the longsword up to her eyes; the dark red patterns flickered in the candlelight, like sleeping magma breathing.
"Father, I quite like this sword."
Bermilt was silent for a moment, then finally sighed, "Alright, since you insist on choosing this one, your father won't stop you. But I must warn you, the fire element in this sword is extremely violent, so be careful when using it and don't hurt yourself."
"Thank you for your teachings, Father."
Xin Lai sheathed her sword and hung "Sacrifice Flame" at her waist.
He turned to leave, but paused slightly as his gaze swept over the compartment where the magic scrolls were stored.
Among those scrolls, several emitted unusually strong magical fluctuations. Xin Lai's gaze swept across them and quickly locked onto a scroll that shimmered with a pale purple light.
