Chapter 106 A new beginning
Chapter 106 A new beginning
Gu Yanchuan's office remained as tidy and aloof as ever. Sunlight streamed through the curtains, casting shadows on the desk, creating a quiet and rational atmosphere. Gu Yanchuan's gaze remained fixed on the agreement to dissolve the engagement. Although he had signed it, his finger still hovered over the pen, unwilling to put it down.
He took a deep breath, his voice low, "After the engagement is dissolved, can I truly be free?" he murmured to himself, as if asking himself.
Just then, Li Gang knocked and walked in, breaking the silence in the office. "President Gu, the materials for today's shareholders' meeting are ready. Would you like to review them immediately?"
Gu Yanchuan snapped out of his reverie, raised his eyes, his gaze calm yet revealing a hint of weariness. "Wait a moment," he said, pointing to the documents on the table, "Take these out first, we'll put the shareholders' meeting aside for a while."
When Li Gang saw Gu Yanchuan's gaze lingering on the agreement to dissolve the engagement, a slight thought crossed his mind. He didn't say anything more, just nodded and turned to leave the office.
After the door closed, Gu Yanchuan picked up a pen and slowly signed his name on the agreement. He looked up and gazed out the window at the distant city. Suddenly, he felt a sense of unreality, as if all of this had little to do with him. He put down the pen and rubbed his temples.
"Chuyue, after the engagement is dissolved, can I get out of this shadow?" he asked himself in a low voice, his tone filled with complex and elusive emotions.
Lin Chuyue sat in her spacious office, sunlight streaming through the glass windows and dappling her desk. She felt no discomfort, intently reviewing a report. Unlike Gu Yanchuan, she had already calmly accepted the annulment of their engagement.
"Chuyue, don't you really feel a little regretful?" Her secretary, Xiao Zhang, walked in and couldn't help but ask when she saw her sitting quietly.
Lin Chuyue raised her head and smiled slightly: "No. No one's life should be bound by constraints. I can finally be myself again."
She put down the documents, turned her head to look out the window. The sunlight was warm, and the city's hustle and bustle reached her ears, but she didn't feel annoyed. In the past, she always seemed to be following a path set by others; today, she could finally be herself.
"However, the matter of breaking off the engagement is really complicated," she said softly, her tone unwavering.
Xiao Zhang nodded slightly: "Yes, after all, do you know how the Gu family reacted?"
Lin Chuyue was silent for a moment, then said in a low voice, "The Gu family? They've already accepted this, so I'm not worried. As for Gu Yanchuan, his attitude has been quite obvious for a long time."
Just then, her phone vibrated; a message had arrived. Lin Chuyue glanced at it; it was from Gu Yanchuan.
"The family matters have been settled. I'll arrange for a lawyer to handle the rest tomorrow. Let's each start a new life."
Lin Chuyue nodded, a slight smile playing on her lips, and replied, "Okay, good luck." She didn't add any emotional words; it was just a simple reply.
She put down her phone, a long-lost sense of relief washing over her. She finally realized that her life had truly begun to belong to her.
At dinner time, the Gu family held their usual family gathering. Gu Yanchuan sat at one end of the table, his expression calm, but a hint of weariness was in his eyes. Gu's mother and other relatives sat on the other side; although the atmosphere was peaceful, an unspoken sense of oppression could still be felt.
"Yanchuan, has there been any new developments at the company lately? I heard you have a big project that's about to be signed?" Gu's mother asked, her eyes filled with concern.
Gu Yanchuan lowered his head and replied calmly, "It's alright. The project is progressing, and if all goes well, we can sign the contract by the end of the month."
Mother Gu smiled slightly, "You need to take good care of yourself. You look a little tired lately." Her gaze swept over Luo Yurou at the other end of the table, as if she was silently pondering something.
Luo Yurou sat gracefully at the table, picked up her wine glass, and looked at Gu Yanchuan with gentle eyes. "Mr. Gu, I heard there's a new project that requires your personal leadership. Have you considered having me participate?" Her tone was soft, but with a clear hint of expectation.
Gu Yanchuan looked at her, a slight smile playing on his lips: "Yu Rou, you did very well. I have no problem with you participating in this project, but you still need more experience and training."
Luo Yurou smiled gently, her gaze shifting, a glint of light flashing in her eyes: "President Gu, I will try my best."
The conversation between Gu Yanchuan and Luo Yurou was gentle yet powerful, seemingly bridging the distance between them. Watching this, Gu's mother felt a slight stirring in her heart and suddenly asked, "Yurou, how have you been in touch with your father lately? Our home is your home too, so don't be so formal."
Luo Yurou nodded gently: "Thank you for your concern, Auntie. I've been communicating a lot with my dad lately, and I appreciate your continued support."
Looking at her, Gu's mother smiled slightly: "Our family has always treated you as one of our own, and we hope that you can make a difference in the Gu family's company."
Gu Yanchuan's gaze fell on Luo Yurou again, his eyes softening. "Yurou, you do have great potential."
Luo Yurou's smile deepened. She quietly took a sip of wine and secretly resolved that she would never give up easily.
With the dissolution of the engagement proceeding smoothly, Lin Chuyue finally broke free from the constraints of the past. She devoted more energy to her career, frequently attending various business meetings and exchanging ideas with executives from major companies, gradually demonstrating her exceptional business acumen.
One day, she received an important business opportunity call at the company. During the conversation, she calmly analyzed market trends and offered a series of specific suggestions.
“Mr. Lin, this project has great potential, but it requires some initial investment,” the other person on the other end of the phone said hesitantly.
Lin Chuyue smiled and said, "Don't worry, I have done a thorough investigation and it is entirely feasible. We are capable of handling these risks, and everyone will benefit from the cooperation."
After hanging up the phone, a confident smile appeared on her face. She knew that her future no longer depended on anyone else, but was in her own hands.
