Chapter 70 Cute Little Birds
Chapter 70 Cute Little Birds
A white ghost?
What kind of film set is this?
Are there still horror movies?
Lin Chen looked at the girl with deep blue eyes, blinked, and said softly:
"Little girl, you're not kidding, are you?"
"I can't see it anymore, it was there just now," Litty gently shook her head. "I'd be a dog if I lied to you, but I'm a bird, so I won't lie to you."
So sincere, doesn't seem like someone's lying to me...
Lin Chen seemed to be deep in thought.
White ghosts... is it the "Mirage City"?
"Liti, can you describe it?" Lin Chen moved his chair to the window. "What did that white ghost look like?"
"I'm not telling you, it'll be really scary..." Litty shrank back, "It's white... but white is usually a good thing... don't be afraid..."
As Litty spoke, little wings peeked out from her collar.
She turned her head, gently bit off a white feather, and handed it to Lin Chen:
"Here's a lucky charm for you, so don't be afraid." Litty smiled sweetly.
Lin Chen took the white feather, feeling its lingering warmth, and was momentarily stunned.
This little guy...plucked his own feathers and gave them to me as a gift?
Doesn't this hurt?
It's kind of cute...
"Hang it around your neck," Litty gestured, "to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune."
"Okay, I'll hang it up when I get back."
Lin Chen put the feather into his pocket, only then realizing that he hadn't introduced himself.
"My name is Lin Chen. I'm an investigator from Section One. Professor Jürgen went to conduct the experiment, so I'll keep an eye on you for a while."
"I know you, you're He Huihui's brother," Liti nodded gently, her long, snow-white hair flowing over her shoulders. "You came to save me when I was sick, but I couldn't speak..."
So she could hear back then...? Lin Chen looked at the little doll in the hospital gown and said softly:
"It must be very uncomfortable, right?"
"It's okay, Daddy will heal me."
After saying that, Litty rubbed her eyes, stretched, and lay back down on the bed.
"I'm sleepy, I can go to sleep now..." the girl chuckled softly, her voice sweet. "That's nice... Goodnight, brother..."
It seems the inhibitor is still working... Lin Chen nodded slightly:
"Good night."
The girl closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep, looking completely harmless.
Lin Chen closed his eyes to rest for a while. Around one o'clock, the door to the ward was pushed open, and Professor Jürgen walked in.
"You've worked hard," Professor Jürgen said, his face full of exhaustion. "Go back to sleep, Kobayashi. I'll treat you to dinner later."
"It's a minor issue," Lin Chen said, rubbing his eyes.
At this moment, Jürgen noticed the half-feather peeking out of Lin Chen's pocket and was somewhat surprised:
"Liti gave you her feathers?"
"Um?"
Lin Chen took out the feather and nodded, saying:
"Yes, she said it would be a talisman for me."
Looking at the tiny white feather, Jürgen smiled with satisfaction.
"Liti told me that she would only give the feathers to people she really liked."
He touched his chest and pulled out a feather pendant.
However, there are three feathers on it... three times the weight of Lin Chen.
"I really like it..." Lin Chen scratched his head, "I don't think I did anything..."
"Perhaps Huihui told her about you," Jürgen said softly. "Thank you for taking care of her, Kobayashi."
Lin Chen glanced at Liti on the bed again, and suddenly felt a slight burning sensation in his temples.
For some reason, the girl in front of him gave him a...strange sense of affinity.
"..."
It was late. After leaving the ward, Lin Chen did not go home, but went to the department office, lay down on the folding bed, covered himself with a small blanket, and fell asleep.
The next morning, he got up early, washed up quickly, and went out to meet Li Zhanyi at the noodle shop.
"Over here!" Li Zhanyi had already ordered mixed rice noodles and clay pot soup for Lin Chen. "Eat quickly, eat quickly, let's go after we've finished eating!"
Today's mission is to go to the Waldaf Hotel to find Brother Hao.
After breakfast, Lin Chen rode his electric scooter with Li Zhanyi to the Waldorf Hotel in the Iron Corner area.
Forty minutes later, the two stood in Iron Point Square, looking up at the towering hotel.
"The criminal will return to the scene to admire his masterpiece," Li Zhanyi said inexplicably. "Welcome back... Godslayer..."
Lin Chen glanced helplessly at Li Zhanyi, took out his phone, and dialed a number.
"Brother Hao, long time no see, are you free?"
"I've come to your side."
Half an hour later, in a small coffee shop in the urban village.
"Phew, finally found a chance to get out and rest."
Hao Ge sat down opposite Lin Chen, glanced at Li Zhanyi, and then nodded with a smile at Lin Chen:
"Hey kid, I heard you're working for the Investigation Bureau, doing pretty well, you even have a girlfriend now."
Having a girlfriend? Lin Chen paused for a second before turning to look at Li Zhanyi beside him.
He noticed a faint blush on Li Zhanyi's cheeks, but she still stared straight ahead, her expression calm.
"She's not my girlfriend," Lin Chen quickly said, "she's my partner."
"I get it," Brother Hao laughed heartily. "Are you alright these past few days? When the investigation bureau came to take Huihui away, I suspected something had happened to you. Is it related to the bridge incident?"
"Yes," Lin Chen nodded, "The people from the Foundation want to get rid of Huihui, so I asked the Investigation Bureau for protection and asked them to help out at the bureau as well."
"I see," Brother Hao nodded. "Very clever. I knew those bastards at the foundation were up to something. They've been telling the neighbors to keep an eye on Huihui. When their people came in, we stopped them, and we almost stopped the Investigation Bureau people too..."
"Thank you, Brother Hao," Lin Chen said sincerely, "If something really happens to Huihui..."
"Don't talk nonsense. She's not just your Huihui, she's also the little sun of our Sunshine Pearl No. 148 community," Brother Hao waved his hand, "Unfortunately, I can't set up a stall there now."
"What happened?" Lin Chen asked curiously.
"Damn it, we got screwed over," Brother Hao shrugged. "You know how it is. We're a small business, so we don't have all the necessary food safety certifications. I led the way in stopping them, and the next day those bastards from the foundation came looking for trouble. They brought that security bureau guy and gave my shop a piece of their mind, and ordered me to stay away from business for three years."
"I was originally planning to confront them head-on, but when I thought about the bastards' faces at the foundation... damn it, I chickened out in the end."
Hearing that Brother Hao had ended up like this because he helped Huihui, Lin Chen clenched his fists slightly.
The foundation's bastards deserve to die.
"It's alright, I guess you could say it's a blessing in disguise," Hao Ge chuckled. "My neighbor Xiao Zhang works at Waldaff. He said my burgers are amazing and kept telling me to try them out. So I took the opportunity and gave it a shot, and I actually got in."
"That's great," Lin Chen said, genuinely happy for Hao Ge. "This job is more respectable."
"So, kid, what brings you here?" Brother Hao asked Lin Chen.
