Chapter 124 Wang Xia
Chapter 124 Wang Xia
Xia Shiyu went out out of curiosity and found that they were villagers, so she quickly came in to greet them.
"Oh, Auntie's here! Come in quickly!"
Wang Xia walked in with a smile, and saw the packaging boxes and oranges all over the floor. "Oh, did I disturb you? You seem to be quite busy."
Yu Juan waved her hand, "What are you busy with? We've all finished. Come on, sit down. Xia, you can sit here."
"Sister Yu Juan, you don't need to bother, I'll do this."
"Okay," Yu Juan said, and immediately started helping when she saw the person who had arrived.
Xia Shiyu took out a few oranges directly. This was not an ordinary villager; she was the daughter-in-law of her third great-uncle, so they were related by marriage.
"Auntie, here are some oranges. They're the new ones we planted this year. You can have some."
"Oh, you're too kind," Wang Xia said, grabbing an orange from her hand.
After taking a few bites, he said, "This orange is really delicious. Shi Yu is so capable."
Xia Shiyu shook her head, "Not at all, but Aunt, what brings you here today?"
Wang Xia then straightened her expression and said, "Oh, it's not a big deal. You know I did come here for something."
"Oh, what's wrong?" Yu Juan asked.
Wang Xia sighed, "My granddaughter's one-month celebration is coming up soon, and we're planning to hold it in the village, but I think we should use your dishes."
"Ah," Xia Shiyu said, somewhat surprised.
"But Auntie, although my family's dishes are delicious, they are not cheap. If we are having a banquet, it would definitely be more cost-effective to buy them elsewhere."
When holding a banquet in the village, the village cook is usually hired. There are two options: one with vegetables and one without. Wang Xia probably chose the latter, wanting to prepare the food herself.
However, usually, the older generation in the village either picks some vegetables from the village or buys some from the city's vegetable market, and the prices are not expensive.
Now, when it comes to buying vegetables from her family, Xia Shiyu hesitates, knowing that her vegetables are not cheap.
Wang Xia waved her hand, "Oh, I know, I know. Auntie didn't come here to try and get a bargain. She just wants to make sure the full moon celebration is a good one..."
After Wang Xia explained it to him, Xia Shiyu and his family finally understood why they needed to use her family's vegetables.
Originally, when we first discussed having a full-month celebration, the son, daughter-in-law, and even the in-laws all wanted to hold it at a hotel in the city.
Wang Xia thought it was a good idea, since she wouldn't have to prepare anything herself and could just have the restaurant handle it.
However, the elders in the family disagreed. They argued that since the wedding banquet was held in the city, why not hold the full-month celebration in their hometown? If it were held in the city, many people in the village wouldn't be able to attend and would only be able to send money. The elders were not in favor of this.
I felt that we should hold the event in our hometown; it would be more lively, and since the Lunar New Year is almost here, it would be nice to have people come and visit.
In the end, Wang Xia thought that it didn't matter where she held the ceremony, it would be fine to hold it in the village, but her in-laws were not very satisfied.
The in-laws live in the city. It's not that they look down on their son-in-law's family, since the two families are well-matched and the son-in-law's family is not bad either. However, the countryside is remote and inconvenient. They would have to eat in the open field and take a bus to the countryside, which makes them feel uncomfortable.
Wang Xia thought, "This won't do. What's wrong with holding a banquet in the countryside? There are many skilled chefs there, and the vegetables are all fresh, picked directly from the ground."
Thinking about this, I remembered eating oranges from Xia Shiyu's family recently. They live far away, and the young people in their family are often not home, so I had never eaten their food before.
I came back this time to join in the fun and help pick oranges. I tasted them and heard the villagers talking about them. That's when I learned that Xia Shiyu is so good at growing vegetables.
So the family decided to order food directly from Xia Shiyu, since they wouldn't be hosting many tables anyway, and each table would only need one dish, which wouldn't cost much.
Wang Xia said, "We didn't order many, maybe 20 or 30 tables, so we won't need many dishes."
They eat at tables in rotation. If there are too many people, there aren't enough tables. After some people finish the first round, the rest go directly to the second and third rounds.
However, Wang Xia guessed that since it was not yet the official Chinese New Year, not many people would be coming back. At most, there would be some children. Moreover, she had just had a wedding banquet two years ago, so there might not be as many people coming this time as last time.
So she felt that this was enough.
Xia Shiyu thought that made sense. With dozens of tables, one dish per table wouldn't cost much. In fact, if the host was stingy, they might put on some fancy plating, but there wouldn't be many vegetable leaves in the dish.
So Xia Shiyu nodded, "Okay, Auntie, let me know in advance how much food you want, and I'll prepare it."
"Okay, okay, I don't need much, just some greens and radishes, and some chives for the chef to make soup, then..." Wang Xia glanced at the orange in her hand and gritted her teeth.
"Give me three more baskets of oranges."
Wang Xia thought that when the time came, each person would take one hair from the table, and there would definitely be no more than that.
Xia Shiyu was surprised; it seemed that her aunt was really serious this time.
She agreed, "Don't worry, Auntie, I'll make sure everything is taken care of for you."
"Okay, okay, okay!" Wang Xia immediately beamed with joy.
She stood up and said, "I'll have someone come and pick up the groceries around the 4th, and you can all come to my house for the baby's one-month celebration on the 5th."
Yu Juan stood up and symbolically tried to persuade him to stay a few steps longer, saying, "Why don't you stay and sit for a while longer? I'll go cook later."
"No need, no need, I'm going back now. You can stay here, no need to see me off."
Xia Shiyu also got up and walked a few steps to see her off, saying, "Auntie, take your time and be careful on the road."
"Alright, you can all go back now."
Xia Shiyu watched Wang Xia walk out of the courtyard gate and then returned to the yard. She sighed, "I never thought that our vegetables would be served at the village banquet. I'm sure more people will know that our vegetables are delicious."
Xia Lihua, who hadn't interrupted their conversation, said, "That's for sure. When the time comes, everyone in the village will love our dishes, and no one will be able to gossip."
Yu Juan patted Xia Lihua on the shoulder and said, "What nonsense are you talking about? Those gossiping people are just bored. Don't pay them any mind."
"Just deal with them, don't worry about them, Xiaoyu, don't take it to heart." Xia Lihua touched the spot where he had been hit, his tone lowering.
"Haha, it's okay, Dad. It's nothing, it's not a big deal."
Xia Shiyu no longer cared about these things because the vegetables and fruits she was cultivating had successfully silenced everyone else, at most they would utter a few sarcastic remarks.
She didn't care about these things.
"Okay, you don't need to worry about these things. We can just focus on farming."
"Yes, yes, come back. Things at home are almost settled. Let's eat."
"I like to eat," Xia Shiyu said as she followed them inside.
