Chapter 16 Gold!
Chapter 16 Gold!
Yuta Shirakawa looked at the serious-looking Tsukizo Hoshino and unconsciously tapped his fingers on the table.
Based on his understanding of Hoshino Tsukigen, the other party didn't seem like the type to go back on their word.
It's really not worth ruining your reputation for him, especially in front of so many people.
"What do you mean?"
Hoshino Tsukizuru nodded slightly, a hint of appreciation for meeting a smart person flashing in his eyes, before returning to his calm.
"If all you need is time, the Kendo Club can accommodate your request. You won't have to attend all the daily training sessions, and your attendance will be recorded as perfect. You can even apply for some club member awards, such as... Japan's cutest high school student."
Yuta Shirakawa's lips twitched. "...We don't need the last one."
He then added, "So, what do you need me to do?"
Just as he didn't believe the other party would go back on their word, he also didn't believe the other party would treat him so well unconditionally. Putting himself in their shoes, if he didn't have any other demands, he would be happy to keep the other party as far away from him as possible.
"You are very smart, really smart."
Hoshino Tsukigen did not answer immediately, but the admiration in her eyes grew stronger.
Yuta Shirakawa calmly replied, "I just believe there's no such thing as a free lunch."
"There's no such thing as a free lunch, is there? You're right, I want you to represent the school in the Kui Xing Qi Kendo Tournament this year."
Kui Xing Qi Kendo Tournament?
Yuta Shirakawa was naturally aware of the competition, having spent so much time in the kendo club and heard of some kendo-related events.
There are three top-level high school kendo competitions in Japan: the National College Sports Games - Kendo Competition (Summer), the National College Kendo Games, and the National College Kendo Selection Games.
Among them, the Kendo selection tournament has the lowest prestige, slightly inferior to the other two, so we will not discuss it for now.
The Summer High School is somewhat like the Olympics, featuring various sporting events, with kendo being just one of them. Although it attracts a large audience, garners significant social attention, and awards are highly prestigious, the focus is primarily on individual achievements.
The Kendo tournament is somewhat different; it only features team competitions, and the participating teams are all traditional powerhouses as well as rising stars selected from the region. It holds a very high status within the Kendo community and better reflects the overall strength of a school.
Schools with a long tradition of kendo also place greater importance on kendo tournaments, as they are not only related to the school's honor but also involve the resources that related kendo dojos can provide.
Yuta Shirakawa didn't agree immediately; he hesitated.
As far as he knew, the school's performance in recent years had not been very good. Last year, they didn't even make it out of the group stage, and this year they had to start from the regional qualifiers.
So, the time spent in the middle is no less than the time spent in club training.
Seeing his hesitation, Hoshino Tsukizuru added:
"You don't need to participate in the selection trials. If we can't even make it to the main competition, then we deserve to lose. The conditions for you will remain the same. You will get perfect attendance without having to participate in daily training, and your evaluation at the end of the school year will be excellent."
Upon hearing this, Shirakawa Yuta had no time to hesitate and immediately agreed.
The main tournament lasts for less than a week, and there is only one match per day.
By any measure, it's more cost-effective than joining other clubs.
Even the most relaxed clubs still have at least two or three activities per week, which is a real waste of time.
After the matter was settled, Shirakawa Yuta was kicked out of the house.
He did want to get closer to the other person, but Hoshino Tsukizuru clearly still carried a bit of resentment from yesterday.
If it weren't for the fact that there were so few stronger people to be found at the school for the Kendo Tournament, she really wouldn't want to see that figure again.
However, Shirakawa Yuta didn't care. Having clearly benefited, he had no need to act cute and make himself unpopular.
After leaving the Kendo Club, he didn't rush to leave the school, but instead headed towards Building B, where the e-sports club was located.
Since I've already told Masako Takahashi that I'd go and take a look, I should keep my word.
Moreover, ever since he asked about the e-sports club this morning, the other party has been glancing at him from time to time.
Although he is indeed very handsome, this is the first time such a situation has occurred after they have been sitting together for so long.
He couldn't satisfy his ever-growing curiosity without taking a stroll around the e-sports club.
……
"Masako, Masako! Hurry up and choose a hero! What are you doing?"
"Huh? Oh, okay."
Somewhat distracted, Masako Takahashi snapped out of her daze, but time was running out. She had no choice but to hastily choose an unbalanced lineup for the battle, but was quickly defeated by the opponent's offensive.
After seeing the words "YOU WIN" appear on the screen, Matsuzaka Rena released the joystick and looked at Takahashi Masako, who was once again lost in thought, and said:
"Masako, why do you seem so distracted?"
"without……"
Masako Takahashi vehemently denied it; she didn't know how to explain or how to answer.
She looked up, her big eyes wide and pleading, and asked, "Rena, I have a question for you. If you knew something embarrassing might happen to you later, what would you do?"
Reina Matsuzaka didn't know what she was talking about, but after thinking for a moment, she replied seriously, "Hide, or find a way to prevent it from happening."
Hide away, or prevent it from happening?
Masako Takahashi nodded thoughtfully at her little head. Hiding was out of the question, since Yuta Shirakawa was sitting right next to her and they saw each other every day.
Even if she avoids it today, she'll definitely see it again tomorrow. She can't just transfer schools because of this, can she?
And she was just pretending to like it... well, there was a little bit of truth to it, but that's not important.
The best approach is to prevent this from happening in the first place. As long as the other party doesn't join the esports club, everything will be fine.
Thinking of this, she unplugged her game controller and walked towards the door again.
Rena Matsuzaka watched her leave, then looked again at the sky, which was blocked by the ceiling.
"This is unbelievable! Does the sun rise in the west every day now?"
Just as Shirakawa Yuta arrived at the foot of Building B, he saw Takahashi Masako waiting to come downstairs.
Just as he was about to greet her, his eyes inadvertently fell on the game controller in Masako Takahashi's hand, which was emitting a dazzling golden light.
gold!
Yuta Shirakawa's eyes widened instantly; he hadn't expected Masako Takahashi to possess golden equipment!
He was already pleasantly surprised that the purple equipment he got yesterday had an invisible attribute, but he didn't expect to see a gold one today.
He was really looking forward to seeing what the effects of this equipment would be.
