Chapter 20 The Golden Ranger Scarlett
Chapter 20 The Golden Ranger Scarlett
"Please relax, I meant no harm."
The tall woman jumped down from the windowsill, took off her hood, and handed over a teacup.
"Scarlett, the Golden Ranger. Please forgive my special status, which necessitates this abrupt meeting. I hope you don't mind."
She wore a linen shirt and a wool belted coat, paired with slim-fitting trousers and over-the-knee boots, topped with a Lincoln green hooded cape. This outfit, while not overly revealing, perfectly accentuated her curvaceous figure.
When she took off her hood, Ronan saw a stunningly beautiful face—unlike the budding beauty of Madale, this woman had a mature, sophisticated style, reminiscent of the exquisitely modeled elves in games.
If it weren't for her slightly accented Mandarin accent affecting her looks, she would be the perfect subject of dreams.
So, who are you, big sister...? Ronan was indeed a little confused, but the many events he experienced before and after his transmigration had honed his nerves well, and now he could remain calm no matter how outrageous things were—at least outwardly calm.
Therefore, after a brief moment of surprise, he quickly composed himself and calmly took the teacup from the mature woman's hand: "You must be a witch. May I ask what brings you to my territory?"
"That's right, I am indeed a witch, and I currently belong to the 'Witch's Eye'."
Scarlett said calmly, "I'm not visiting your territory just now. In fact, I entered Thornlands the day you saved Miss Meryl."
Seeing Ronan's expression, which resembled that of a cat at its workstation, Scarlett demonstrated her abilities to him.
A burst of light green appeared out of thin air, and her body, enveloped in the light, dissipated and reconstructed... then transformed into a sparrow that Ronan recognized—the very same sparrow that had been standing outside the window scratching its foot while he was eating lunch earlier.
"My magical ability is called 'Master of Illusion Forest,' and its effect is to transform into various forest animals. The weaker the animal, the longer I can maintain this transformation."
The little sparrow hopped onto the desk, introducing Ronan while pecking at bread crumbs.
Ronan hesitated, sensing that the guy was probably craving something and wanted to sneak a bite under the guise of a legitimate reason.
Despite the many flaws, Scarlett's willingness to reveal her magical powers as a trump card clearly shows that she came with sincerity.
"With your abilities, you could indeed infiltrate Thorn Territory undetected... but why would you do that?"
"For Miss Madonna."
Then another burst of green light appeared, and the sparrow on the table transformed back into a beautiful blonde mature woman.
Through Scarlett's explanation, Ronan quickly understood the whole story:
The Witch's Eye is an organization where witches band together for mutual support. All members are witches, including wandering witches who have awakened and refuse to be incorporated into the church, as well as original witches who have risen up in rebellion due to the burden of the church. Their purpose is to provide a place for witches all over the world to belong.
Besides passively waiting for witches to join, they also take the initiative to develop members through publicity, rescue, cooperation and other means.
And Madame de la Mer is among them.
Upon receiving news of her execution, the Witch's Eye immediately dispatched Scarlett, the most mobile of the group, to rescue her.
She never expected that the soldiers in charge of escorting her would suddenly decide to let Maddie go, and she spent a whole day and night waiting at the execution ground without seeing her.
Sensing something was amiss, she immediately searched for Maddale's trail along the transport route, eventually crossing the North to reach Thornlands, where she witnessed Ronan defying all opposition to take Maddale in.
Scarlett's original plan was to find an opportunity to kill the new lord and rescue Madonna if Madonna continued to be oppressed by him.
However, after observing for a few days, she found that Romania did not make things difficult for the poor little girl, but instead took care of her in every way.
Not only did they provide her with delicious food and comfortable rooms to rest, they also tried their best to change the people's perception of witches, making her more and more accepted by more and more people.
Even in the Witch's Eye, Scarlett had never experienced such treatment!
So her mission changed from rescuing Maddale to secretly assisting Ronan and eliminating some unstable factors for him.
"My lord, your idea is good, but your approach is too radical."
Scarlett toyed with the gleaming silver dagger and said, "Do you know how many other lords have spies in Thorn Territory? What will those stubborn, conservative believers think of your actions? If any of them say something they shouldn't, the consequences will be unimaginable."
"That's true..."
Ronan nodded noncommittally; in truth, this was something that couldn't be avoided.
Everyone understands theoretical things, but practice is ambiguous and urgent. Not to mention that he has only recently traveled through time, and many of his thinking habits are still based on modern methods. It is impossible for him to do things in a comprehensive way.
Later, during the review, although he discovered these problems, he saw that nothing serious had happened in Thorn Territory and that there were fewer and fewer unusual voices, so he felt somewhat lucky.
He now realizes that while most voices disappear due to a shift in perception, some disappear in a physical sense...
Fortunately, the people did not notice anything unusual, since disappearances or deaths were common in this land.
In their view, those with eccentric personalities, who love to nitpick and have impure thoughts are destined to die young, and they would rather die far away so as to save food.
"When the defeated troops from the North approached, I originally thought you would leave, or at least go out to lay low for a while, and I had already made plans to cover you. I never expected you to turn the crisis into an opportunity with your extraordinary courage."
At this point, Scarlett's gaze revealed undisguised admiration. "Ever since arriving in Thornlands, you've been creating surprises. I'm even starting to wonder, is there really a mortal soul inside you?"
"Big sister has good taste..." Ronan smiled slightly. "Mortals are the creators of history; I'm merely fortunate enough to be their helmsman. So, Miss Scarlett, is your appearance now a signal of goodwill from the Witch's Eye?"
Ronan was also looking forward to making contact with this mysterious witch organization.
The single presence of Madel has already brought about tremendous changes to the Thorn Territory. If he gains the assistance of more powerful witches, his farming endeavors will flourish!
Moreover, with more witches under contract, the system's update speed will be greatly accelerated—it's practically a clone of Qin Shi Huang, a win-win situation!
"My orders from the leader are to have cautious and limited contact with you. The sisters did not witness your actions firsthand, and my brief descriptions are unlikely to convince them. Please forgive me."
Scarlett smiled again. "However, I personally wish to be your friend. After observing you these past few days, I am convinced that you are a lord of noble character and worthy of trust."
Ronan's eyes lit up: "Then—"
"But I cannot form a contract with nobles; this is a rule of the Witch's Eye, and I ask for your understanding."
"All right."
Ronan sighed with regret; it seemed his dream of leveling up at double speed wouldn't be realized for the time being. However, for him, establishing a connection with a large witch organization was a sure-fire win.
"You don't need to be discouraged. I think true friendship doesn't need a contract to maintain it. You also don't need to worry. I am an elite first-tier witch who has advanced to a higher level, and I am already very skilled at using magical energy. Even without a contract, I have almost no risk of losing control due to corruption."
Scarlett, unaware of Ronan's thoughts, continued earnestly, "Also, while your interrogation work was generally commendable, there were a few wrongful convictions. If you need, I can help you identify them."
Ronan perked up upon hearing this.
"Please elaborate!"
