Chapter 59 The Ghost in Pursuit
Chapter 59 The Ghost in Pursuit
The monster's enormous body nearly blocked the way to the gate. It took heavy steps, supported by several twisted lower limbs, which shook the ground.
Those inhuman eyes were firmly fixed on the petite, white-haired figure at the doorway.
Danger! An extreme, irrational, abyssal sense of danger overwhelmed Chen Mu's every nerve like icy water.
"What is this thing? Holy crap..."
She bit her tongue, using the intense pain to clear her mind and calm herself down.
A monster? No, impossible!
Chen Mu dismissed her guess almost instantly. She had encountered monsters before, so she was certain that this was definitely not the same kind of monster.
While monsters are ugly, enormous, and dangerous, and are indeed monstrous, at least they conform to basic morphology, having two eyes and four limbs, perhaps a little twisted, but never this bizarre. This thing before me is practically something that jumped out of a cult myth; just one look at it would drive you crazy, completely devoid of any "beast" form.
"The most distinctive feature of monsters is their blue blood, but this thing's blood is red! They're definitely not the same species!"
Without a second thought, Chen Mu immediately turned and ran!
She was now unarmed and delicate, and had no ability to resist this thing. Why wasn't she running away?
He cursed inwardly, thinking that even if a Magnum hand cannon or RPG rocket were airdropped into her right now, he wouldn't want to face that kind of monster; it wouldn't have much effect.
"I guess only the power of a magical girl can solve this!"
Fortunately, the monster behind him was too large to fit into the narrow doorway, giving Chen Mu time to escape.
Its twisted belly forced its way in, its weight pressing down on the roof beams, and it could be felt making a groan of being unable to bear the weight. It probably wouldn't last much longer.
A chilling voice came from behind:
"You can't escape! I'll sacrifice the entire hospital; everyone here will be sacrificed! Hahaha!!"
Chen Mu quickly understood the meaning of those words.
She stopped in her tracks, startled.
Before her eyes, the stairs she had just descended seemed to be covered by a black tide, surging towards her!
The mental patients and caregivers rushed down, but their condition was clearly wrong. They weren't there to hunt down Chen Mu. Their eyes were unfocused, just empty and unnaturally red. Saliva dripped uncontrollably from the corners of their mouths, their teeth were exposed, and they made wild, guttural growls or incomprehensible hisses. Their limbs were stiff!
This is definitely not a mental patient!
These people must have been influenced by that Dr. Wang, Chen Mu immediately understood.
Because they rushed toward her like hyenas that had smelled blood!
He looks exactly like a zombie from a horror movie!
"It can even summon monsters?"
Chen Mu's pupils contracted slightly, his heart skipped a beat, but his expression instantly froze. The greater the crisis, the calmer he seemed to become.
In a flash, she made a judgment: behind her was that twisted and bizarre sacrificial monster, and in front of her was a horde of "zombies" who had lost their minds.
Charge forward! It's more dangerous behind us; there's only a glimmer of hope ahead!
Without the slightest hesitation, Chen Mu advanced instead of retreating, like an arrow released from a bow, and charged into the surging crimson wave!
Her petite frame became an advantage at this moment. Instead of forcing her way through, she moved like a nimble fish, weaving through the gaps between the waving and scratching arms.
He ducked to avoid the attack, shoved a staggering figure aside with his shoulder, and at the same time hooked a mop that had fallen to the ground with his toe, picked it up with one hand, and swung it horizontally with the hard wooden handle.
Snap! Her movements were like those of a seasoned master of stick fighting.
Striking the backs of the knees or calves of several zombies creates brief stumbles and confusion.
"Ha!"
Stepping on his companion's body, a zombie dressed as a caregiver lunged at him with outstretched arms. Chen Mu didn't back down or give way. Just as he was about to grab her, he suddenly crouched down, slipping under her armpits, and simultaneously hooked a mop handle under her foot. The caregiver zombie lost her balance and fell heavily to the ground, briefly clearing a small area for Chen Mu.
She dared not linger and continued her charge, using whatever was at hand: walls, door frames, chairs, carts... just like a scene from a Jackie Chan movie, changing things wildly.
Constantly changing direction and creating obstacles.
During this time, sweat soaked her temples, and her breathing became rapid.
Chen Mu knew very well that this body's stamina was being rapidly depleted, and the muscles were protesting with soreness.
But her brain did not give up the fight; it continued to operate at high speed, her eyes constantly scanning for the next breakthrough.
Finally, amidst the chaos, she caught a glimpse of a half-open door at the end of the corridor, which appeared to be a storage room or a spare ward.
There was no time to hesitate. The monster's struggles and roars behind them grew closer, and the encirclement was closing in.
Fight!
Chen Mu took a deep breath, unleashed his last bit of speed, and charged toward the door.
She used all her strength to shove aside two zombies blocking her way, and squeezed through the door before more claws could reach her!
boom!
She slammed her back against the door, and before the door could be forced open by external forces, she quickly inserted a crowbar that she had picked up from somewhere.
Not enough! She staggered and turned around, using her thin shoulders and all her strength to block the doorway with the heavy, cluttered metal cabinet next to her!
Boom!Boom!Boom!
Almost the instant she finished doing all this, a heavy thud sounded outside the door. The door shook violently, dust fell in a flurry, and the screeching sound of fingernails scraping against the door, mixed with the screams and pounding from outside, was like a death knell from a demon, constantly assaulting her eardrums.
"This is ridiculous... Is this dream world really this outrageous? Zombies have even appeared?"
Chen Mu smiled bitterly, leaning against the cold wall as she slowly slid down to the ground.
She couldn't hold on any longer; her lungs heaved violently like a broken bellows, each breath accompanied by a burning pain. Sweat had already soaked through her hospital gown, clinging to her skin. Lifting it up, her arms and calves were covered in abrasions and scratches from the earlier conflict, burning with pain. She couldn't get through this without getting hurt.
We don't know if these zombies can transmit viruses. If they can, then we're doomed.
My physical strength has reached its limit. This body is too weak. The intense exercise just now almost exhausted all my strength. Now I can hardly move even a finger.
Outside the door, the sounds of pounding and roaring showed no signs of abating; it might not hold out for more than a few minutes before it was breached.
Chen Mu forced himself to raise his head and look around the small room.
This place seems to be a storage room for cleaning tools and waste. It's very dusty, poorly lit, and full of brooms and hoses. You can't even find a decent weapon.
There were no windows, only a dim light bulb overhead, and the only exit was the door that was being frantically attacked.
A desperate situation.
"I should have invited Fellow Daoist Jinxuan to exorcise the demons; this was a mistake."
She couldn't help but make a joke, though it wasn't very funny, but she couldn't think of any other way.
Human strength has its limits, and so does wisdom. At least for now, Chen Mu couldn't think of any way to escape; he was in a complete dead end.
"What would happen if I died in a dream world? Would I also die in the real world, or would I wake up?"
Chen Mu had no answer either; perhaps he could only try once.
She felt her eyelids were very heavy, her vision was blurry, and she felt like she was about to fall asleep at any moment.
Just then.
The light in front of me became much brighter, exceeding the brightness that the dim light bulb should have had.
Within the light, Chen Mu actually saw a small, white elf.
The elf stared at her with its bright red eyes:
"I am the angel of hope, and you seem to be in a state of despair."
"Girl, sign a contract with me and become the Witch of Hope."
