Chapter 124 Chen Ming
Chapter 124 Chen Ming
Little Goldfish and Xu Gun'er both saw what the Niu family mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were doing. They exchanged a glance and chuckled to themselves.
The steamed bun stall was doing just as well as the previous two days. Lin Chang'er and the others came over and helped out until closing time before sitting down to rest, drink soy milk, and eat pancakes and steamed buns.
During this time, there were also occasional customers who came to buy things.
It was only then that Sister Gu noticed that Lin Chang'er still had some seafood left. News travels fast at the market, and she had heard from customers about the new seafood stall early in the morning.
I can't help but worry about Lin Chang'er, but her business has been much better than before these past few days. The steamed buns are sold out every day, and she shares the profits from the pancakes with Sister-in-law Gu. The money in her purse is also more than before.
Sister Gu didn't mention the extra seafood stall, but said, "Business has been so busy these days, I haven't had scrambled eggs with scallions in a long time, and there's also the scallion oil clams that Sister Chang'er mentioned. Perfect timing, Sister Chang'er has some left over today, can you weigh some for me too!"
Lin Chang'er could easily see through her thoughts and smiled, "I was just going to give you and the old lady some food anyway, why bother weighing it? Just scoop it out yourself from that big bowl later."
Sister Gu said, "That won't do. My sister-in-law is in the seafood business."
Grandma Bai also said, "That's the proper etiquette."
Lin Chang'er laughed, "So, these seafood products are just local specialties, consider them as souvenirs!"
Sister-in-law Gu chimed in, "That's right, Sister Gu and the old lady shouldn't refuse."
Sister Gu naturally refused to accept it. The old lady's still clear eyes rolled around, as if she had made up her mind, and she said, "Chang'er, here's what I'll do. I'll point you to a place. You can take the things there and say that they were introduced by Old Lady Bai from East Street."
This is an offer to introduce business to her, and Lin Chang'er naturally accepted it without hesitation. "That's great! If it works out, the old lady can come to our house for dinner later."
Sister Gu joked, "Then I'll have to come along and freeload off them."
Lin Chang'er laughed and said, "Come on, there's no shortage of chopsticks for Sister Gu."
Sister Gu said happily, "Don't say that now, or you'll think I'm shameless again."
Lin Chang'er waved her hand, "Sister Gu, do you think I'm that kind of person?"
As he spoke, he counted out six salted duck eggs from his basket and scooped out a large bowl of clams for her, saying, "Don't refuse, it would be a loss of our friendship."
Having said that, Sister Gu couldn't refuse any longer and said that she would definitely visit Linshui Village another day.
Grandma Bai's share was the same number.
The old lady understood Lin Chang'er's personality and didn't refuse. She said, "It's almost lunchtime, why don't I go with you?" She could have lunch there. She happened to hear her son talking about it for days, saying that there were many new dishes and he kept pestering her to try them.
There's no time like the present.
Lin Chang'er saw that she was willing to accompany her personally, so she naturally did not refuse and silently remembered this favor.
Leaving Sister Gu and Sister-in-law Gu to clean up the stall, Lin Chang'er, along with Little Goldfish, Xu Gun'er, and Old Lady Bai, went to deliver the seafood.
However, as she walked, Lin Chang'er felt that the place ahead seemed somewhat familiar, yet also not quite.
The little goldfish looked even more familiar and whispered to Xu Gun'er, "Uncle Gun'er, look here, doesn't it look like the back street where Young Master Bai led us to blow up the outhouse?"
Xu Gun'er scratched his head, "Seems like it?"
He was in a rush that day and didn't have time to look at it properly. He threw the firecrackers into the outhouse and then quickly ran back to the Sihai Restaurant with Bai Shaoan.
The little goldfish had short legs, so Bai Shaoan carried it back, which is why it got to look outside a little longer.
But after hearing what he said, the little goldfish didn't say anything more. The old lady Bai had taken good care of them these days and wasn't afraid of selling them.
Lin Chang'er had delivered the item to the side entrance that morning, but Sihai Restaurant has three entrances, and this one happened to be the one she hadn't been to before.
But since Grandma Bai had brought her here on her own initiative, she didn't want to ask too many questions, fearing that she might hurt the old lady's feelings if she talked too much.
When they arrived at their destination, Old Mrs. Bai knocked on the door. The doorman glanced at her and exclaimed, "Oh my, what brings you here? Please come in, please come in!"
He then turned to the waiter and instructed, "Quickly go and inform Young Master Bai that the old lady is here."
With that, he ushered them inside.
Just then, someone called out, "Hey, Second Master, why are you coming in this way today?"
Upon hearing the sound, Lin Chang'er saw a familiar face. It was Lao Liu, who had driven her carriage before. He was holding a broom, as if he was going to sweep.
However, upon seeing her, he immediately dropped the broom and rushed over to help carry the water buckets.
Lin Chang'er politely thanked him.
Old Liu smiled at her and said, "Master Pei has been talking about you all morning. You've finally arrived. Those distinguished guests got up early and are drinking tea and waiting in our restaurant's private room. You'll be busy for a while. I'll put your things away for you first. Go and rest."
At this point, Old Lady Bai also realized something was amiss and said to Lin Chang'er, "Second Master? The one who just started cooperating with Sihai Restaurant, is that you, Chang'er?"
Lin Chang'er also confirmed that this was a case of mistaken identity, like a family not recognizing each other.
She asked, "Are you the grandmother of Young Master Bai Shaoan?"
Grandma Bai nodded and laughed heartily, "What a coincidence!" She had finally tried to do a good deed, but ended up bringing the person home instead. If word got out, she'd be laughing about it for half a year!
"Grandmother," Bai Shaoan rushed over upon hearing the news, accompanied by Pei Sihai.
When Bai Shaoan saw Lin Chang'er with Old Madam Bai, he was first taken aback, then looked at Lin Chang'er and smiled, "So, the little girl who was setting up the stall with me the other day, is that you, Lin Sister?"
Lin Chang'er nodded, "It's me."
"What a coincidence!" Pei Sihai also laughed. He had heard Bai Shaoan mention it, saying that Grandma Bai had recently been setting up a stall with a young girl, and with more things to do every day, she had more smiles on her face.
At first, he was worried that the old lady would be scammed.
But then again, the Bai family also had a foundation; the secret guards stationed in the shadows couldn't be easily manipulated by the old mistress.
When he went to visit the old mistress in private, he saw that the old lady seemed to be in a better mood, so he respected her and did not disturb her.
However, I have mentioned to Bai Shaoan several times that I would like the old man to come to the restaurant for a meal.
The old man had been making excuses, but today he actually came to our door. Who would have thought it would be such a coincidence?
However, knowing that it was Chang'er with the old man, he was completely relieved.
She said, "Grandma, you've come at the perfect time. Our Chang'er has been personally cooking at the restaurant these past few days, so you're in for a treat."
Lin Chang'er happily welcomed the guests to the private room, sat with them for a while, and then went to do her work.
As she was going downstairs, she suddenly heard someone call out to her, "Second Boss."
Lin Chang'er turned around and saw Chen Ming. She frowned slightly but still greeted him politely, "Young Master Chen..."
