Chapter 54 Farlight Star
Chapter 54 Farlight Star
"Feed? Is this Director Hu?"
"Hey, it's me, Xiao Cheng. What brings you to call me today? Did you have fun in Fenglin Star?"
On the other end of the communication, Hu Zhou displayed an enthusiasm completely unbecoming of his leadership role.
This is normal, though. Cheng Xu addresses him as Director, but Hu Zhou dares not presume to be a "leader with ultimate abnormality."
"Well, Director Lance Li of the Special Operations Division of the Yuanguang Star Branch invited me to visit Yuanguang Star. I thought about it and decided I should inform you, Director."
Hu Zhou on the other end of the communication seemed to be stunned for a moment, not understanding how Cheng Xu had connected with Lance.
Cheng Xu briefly recounted his experiences on Fenglin Star, which caused Hu Zhou to fall into an even longer silence.
Hu Zhou was completely unaware of everything that happened on Fenglin Star.
Since that frank conversation, the Chengmingxing branch of the Public Security Bureau has significantly eased its wariness of Cheng Xu.
After all, Cheng Xu had shown considerable goodwill to the Bureau of Anomalies. The Bureau valued this goodwill highly and, in turn, demonstrated its sincerity.
After that, the practice of constantly tracking and observing Cheng Xu was canceled, and replaced by a team that kept its distance from Cheng Xu, provided support whenever needed, but did not disturb Cheng Xu.
"Feed? Director Hu? Can you hear me?"
Hu Zhou's prolonged silence led Cheng Xu to suspect that there was a problem with the communication.
"I'm here. Xiao Cheng, to be honest, something big has indeed happened at the Chengmingxing branch recently. It's the matter that Lance Li mentioned that requires constant communication and coordination."
Hu Zhou spoke much slower than usual, as if he was considering his words.
"Personally, I think that since Director Lance has invited you, you might as well go to Yuanguang Star first and take a look. It would be good to do it as part of your vacation."
"If you are willing to take on the responsibility of communication, we will send someone to connect with you. If you are not willing, that's perfectly fine too."
Has something big happened at the Chengmingxing branch?
If Hu Zhou describes it as a "major event," it must be something of great importance, involving the entire branch office.
After a moment's thought, Cheng Xu gave his answer:
"Director Hu, I'm also part of the branch office. If needed, I'm willing to help within my capabilities."
"Okay, I'll make the arrangements now. Someone you know will come to the Yuanguangxing branch to find you later."
After the call ended, Hu Zhou immediately dialed another number.
"Hey? Is this Mr. Ke? Oh, this is Hu Zhou. I have some good news for you..."

"Hello, have the test results come back yet?"
After confirming his trip to Yuanguang Star, Cheng Xu immediately replied to Lanceli and then went to the medical station in the northern part of the Thousand Vine Dome.
Before leaving, he was a little worried about the lynx he had brought out from the ruins of the Deep Swamp City.
After the large cat followed him back to the Luling tribe's stronghold, Cheng Xu found the Luling tribe's officials and asked them to help check on the lynx's condition.
"Coming, coming, please wait a moment."
The Luling Clan employees on duty naturally recognized Cheng Xu and knew the crucial role he had played in the recently concluded crisis.
The staff did not dare to neglect the request of such a benefactor and carried the big cat out of a closed observation room.
The moment the lynx saw Cheng Xu, its eyes seemed to light up.
It immediately broke free from the staff member's arms and hopped towards Cheng Xu, leaping into his arms with its four short legs.
"Alright, alright, why are you being so clingy? You're such a rich cat."
Its head rubbed against Cheng Xu's body, and Cheng Xu never expected it to show such unguarded affection.
Several staff members looked surprised upon seeing this.
You should know that when they were examining this lynx, it was extremely arrogant and refused to pay any attention to them.
Now, when they see Cheng Xu, he looks completely different, making the staff even suspect that he was switched at some point.
His emotional fluctuations were quickly suppressed by his professionalism. A staff member stepped forward and handed Cheng Xu an examination report.
"Overall, it is indeed a native Fenglin Xinglin lynx."
"Its body was unusually healthy, with only a very small amount of Cannpolio worm residue detected in its body."
"As for why it appeared deep within the ruins of the Deep Swamp City, it might really be as you guessed..."
The staff member hesitated, but Cheng Xu understood that he wanted to tell him that the lynx was just too stupid, which was why it had inexplicably wandered into a group of dangerous beasts.
"Okay. Luckily it bumped into me."
Cheng Xu rubbed the lynx's fluffy head and looked at the staff:
"I plan to travel to Farlight Star next, so I'm leaving it in your care. If all the indicators are fine, then release it back into nature."
Cheng Xu brought the lynx out of the ruins mainly because he was worried it would become food for wild beasts.
Now that the crisis on Fenglin Star has been resolved, he has no intention of taking the big cat with him to Yuanguang Star. He only hopes that it can return to its original living environment.
He held the lynx, whose limbs were still thrashing, and handed it to the staff member in front of him.
"Understood. Have a safe journey."
The staff member nodded and was about to take the big cat when an unexpected situation occurred.
With a sudden burst of strength, it broke free from the staff member's grasp, landed on the ground, arched its back, flared its nostrils, and let out a low hiss.
"ha!"
The lynx's short, thick beard bristled like steel needles, its pink nose wrinkled, and its upper lip twisted upwards, revealing its pale canine teeth.
The lynx, which had been extremely docile just moments before, suddenly bristled and hissed, startling everyone, including Cheng Xu.
The big cat turned to look at Cheng Xu, but then resumed its pitiful posture, blinking its bright eyes at Cheng Xu, its two front paws hugging Cheng Xu's thighs, its scimitar-like nails digging into the fabric.
"Meow—"
"Uh...you want to come with me?"
When Cheng Xu saw it like this, his heart softened, and he picked it up.
"Sigh, fine, I'll take you with me then. Why are you clinging to me like this?"
The lynx clung tightly to his clothes, refusing to let go no matter what, making intermittent squeaking noises in its throat.
"Eek..."

"Welcome to Yuanguang Star, young man Cheng Xu."
Six hours later, Cheng Xu and Lance arrived at the core planet of the Far Light Galaxy aboard a government spaceship.
Instead of traveling with them, Siel and Tana chose to stay on Fenglin Star for a while before returning to Kanwa Star, the mother planet of the Haoli Clan.
Given the significant matters involving two branch offices in different star systems, Lance could not possibly allow his nephew, who had not yet joined the company, to get involved.
Looking down through the porthole, the outline of the Farlight Star Branch came into view at the edge of the horizon.
