Chapter 613 Bringing Family Back to the Village
Chapter 613 Bringing Family Back to the Village
As Lin Zhiqiang spoke, he pulled a contract from his briefcase and pushed it in front of Li Xiangyang: "Mr. Li, our South China Investment specializes in acquiring companies with potential. If you're selling this factory, we'll offer ten million yuan for a full acquisition."
Li Xiangyang glanced at the contract cover but didn't reach for it: "President Lin, you came all this way just to talk about this?"
“Ten million is no small sum, Mr. Li, you might want to consider it.” Lin Zhiqiang’s smile remained professional, but his eyes held a sharper edge. “Besides, it seems Mr. Li has offended quite a few people lately. In business, sometimes knowing when to stop is a wise choice.”
Wang Ergou walked in from the doorway and frowned slightly when he saw the stranger. Li Xiangyang nodded to him, gesturing for him to sit down.
"Mr. Lin, to tell you the truth, I'm not selling this factory." Li Xiangyang leaned back in his chair, his tone calm. "Whether it's ten million or a hundred million, I won't sell it."
Lin Zhiqiang's smile froze for a moment: "President Li, one must know how to assess the situation. Don't be stubborn and refuse to listen to reason; you must understand that some methods are not easy for ordinary people to withstand."
"Are you threatening me?" Li Xiangyang's voice suddenly turned cold.
"No, no, it was just a friendly reminder." Lin Zhiqiang rearranged the contract. "I just wanted to remind you to leave some room for maneuver, so you can meet again in the future."
Upon hearing this, Wang Ergou jumped to his feet: "What do you mean? Do you want to fight?"
Li Xiangyang reached out to stop Wang Ergou, his eyes fixed on Lin Zhiqiang: "President Lin, you've made your point quite clear. But let me tell you, I, Li Xiangyang, grew up in the mountains. What wild beasts haven't I seen?"
Lin Zhiqiang's expression changed slightly, but he quickly regained his professional smile: "Mr. Li, you've misunderstood. I just..."
“There’s no misunderstanding.” Li Xiangyang stood up, looking down at him. “Go back and tell the people behind you that they’re not buying my factory. As for threats? If I, Li Xiangyang, were afraid of that, I wouldn’t be in this situation today.”
Lin Zhiqiang's face darkened completely. He put away the contract and stood up: "President Li, I hope you won't regret your decision today. Some things are unexpected, and they come very suddenly."
"Get out!" Wang Ergou couldn't hold back any longer and slammed his fist on the table. "If you don't leave, believe me, I'll show you what an accident really is!"
Lin Zhiqiang glanced at Wang Ergou's muscular build, then at Li Xiangyang's cold expression, and finally said nothing more. He picked up his briefcase and quickly left the meeting room.
"Xiangyang, that kid is clearly up to no good." Wang Ergou watched Lin Zhiqiang's retreating figure, his fists clenched so tightly they cracked. "I really want to go beat him up right now."
Li Xiangyang shook his head: "Violence won't solve the problem. But you're right, this person doesn't seem to have good intentions."
He walked to the window, watching Lin Zhiqiang get into a black Audi and drive away, pondering his next move. Tianhua Industry had collapsed, but clearly, a much larger force was at work behind the scenes. Lin Zhiqiang was no ordinary investor.
"Ergou, call Ma Laosan right now and tell him to investigate this Huanan Investment company." Li Xiangyang turned around. "Also, notify the factory security guards to be extra careful lately, especially at night."
Wang Ergou nodded: "Then what about our family?"
“This is more important.” Li Xiangyang’s expression turned serious. “You go back to the village first, call Daqiang and the others, and protect the family. I’ll go to the city to pick up my mother and Xiaohua and bring them back to the village for a few days.”
Half an hour later, Li Xiangyang drove to his home in the city.
"Mother, it's me."
After parking the car, he hurriedly knocked on the door.
"Xiangyang, why are you here so late?" Linzhi opened the door and saw her son, her face showing both surprise and worry. "Did something happen?"
Li Xiangyang went inside and saw Li Xiaohua reading at the table. She looked up at him with a sweet smile and said, "Brother, why are you here at this hour?"
"It's nothing, I just missed you all." Li Xiangyang tried to sound casual, but his mother's eyes were all too familiar; she could tell at a glance that her son had something on his mind. "Mom, pack some things, let's go back to the village for a few days."
"Go back to the village?" Linzhi put down her teacup. "Why would I go back to the village for no reason?"
Li Xiaohua also looked up, asking her brother with a puzzled expression, "Is something wrong at the factory?"
Li Xiangyang sat down on the sofa, lit a cigarette, and hesitated about how to say it.
Lin Zhi sat down opposite her son, her eyes filled with worry: "Xiangyang, don't hide it from your mother. Is someone trying to harm you?"
Li Xiangyang was taken aback. Although his mother wasn't highly educated, she was very perceptive of human relationships. He gave a wry smile: "Mother, you're overthinking it."
"You're overthinking it?" Lin Zhi's voice rose eight octaves. "Do you think your mother's gone senile? The factory is running perfectly fine, and you come running to pick us up in the middle of the night to take us back to the village?"
Li Xiaohua also sensed something was wrong and sat down next to her brother: "Brother, what's wrong? Just tell us. We're even more worried if you don't."
Seeing the worried looks in his mother's and sister's eyes, Li Xiangyang stubbed out his cigarette: "I've indeed run into trouble. I recently exposed a problem with a company, and someone might retaliate. The reason I brought you back to the village was because I was worried about your safety."
Lin Zhi and Li Xiaohua exchanged a glance, both seeing worry in each other's eyes.
"Um... will the retaliation be severe?" Li Xiaohua asked cautiously.
“I don’t know,” Li Xiangyang said honestly, “but I can’t joke about your safety.”
After a moment of silence, Lin Zhi stood up: "I'll go pack my things."
"Mother?" Li Xiaohua was somewhat surprised.
“Your brother is right,” Lin Zhi’s voice was calm, but her eyes were firm. “We’re family, we’ll face anything together. At least when we go back to the village, our fellow villagers will look after us.”
Li Xiaohua nodded, "I'll go pack too."
Watching his mother and sister bustling about, Li Xiangyang felt both moved and guilty. They hadn't asked him anything; they had simply trusted and supported him unconditionally.
Twenty minutes later, the three packed some clothes and daily necessities, locked the door, and got into the car.
The country road was unusually quiet at night, with car headlights illuminating the winding road ahead, and the fields on both sides blending into one in the darkness.
As Li Xiangyang drove, he kept an eye on his rearview mirror to make sure no one was following him.
An hour later, the car drove into Xiaoliang Village.
The village was quiet at night, with only a few houses still lit. Li Xiangyang parked his car in front of his house and had just gotten out when he saw Wang Ergou and Li Daqiang walking towards him from a distance.
"Xiangyang, did you receive it?" Wang Ergou quickly came to greet him.
"Received it." Li Xiangyang nodded. "How's the village?"
"Don't worry, Daqiang and I have already made arrangements. We'll take turns on duty tonight. Also, the village secretary knows about this and said the whole village will help keep an eye out for strangers."
Li Daqiang chuckled sheepishly, "Xiangyang, don't worry. If they're really so foolish as to come and cause trouble in our village, we'll make sure they don't leave alive."
