Chapter 301 This is terrible
Chapter 301 This is terrible
The next morning, just as dawn broke, Li Xiaohua and Wang Ying jumped out of bed and excitedly stood by the window, looking at the sky.
"What beautiful weather!" Li Xiaohua exclaimed, sunlight streaming through the window and falling on her face. "We can fly kites today!"
Wang Ying smiled and said softly, "I hope there's enough wind."
The two girls quickly dressed, and without even washing up, rushed to the main room and each picked up their kite.
Li Xiaoyun was already up and busy in the kitchen. Hearing the noise, she poked her head out and smiled, "Up so early? Eat something first before you go fly your kite."
"I'm not hungry!" Li Xiaohua replied while checking the kite string.
"You need to eat," Li Xiangyang said as he walked into the house, ruffling Li Xiaohua's hair. "How can you have the energy to fly a kite if you don't eat?"
Wang Ying nodded obediently: "Brother Xiangyang is right, we need to eat first."
Breakfast was egg noodles, specially prepared by Li Xiaoyun. They were steaming hot and smelled delicious.
Although the two girls were anxious, they did not dare to slack off and sat down to eat seriously.
“After we finish eating, we’ll go to the open space behind the village,” Li Xiangyang said. “It’s spacious there, perfect for flying kites.”
"Okay!" the two little girls answered in unison, their voices full of anticipation.
After breakfast, the four packed their things and headed towards the open space behind the village.
Several village children were already flying kites in the open space behind the village.
Upon seeing Li Xiangyang and his family arrive, they all greeted them.
"Brother Xiangyang, you guys are flying kites too?"
"Did you make this? It's so beautiful!"
The children gathered around, marveling at Li Xiaohua and Wang Ying's kites.
Li Xiaohua proudly displayed her golden eagle kite: "Xiangyang and I made this together!"
Wang Ying was a little shy, but her eyes held an undisguised pride.
Li Xiangyang helped the two little girls prepare kite strings and carefully instructed them on how to fly the kite.
"First, feel the wind direction," Li Xiangyang said, "then run into the wind and let the kite fly."
Li Xiaohua couldn't wait any longer and rushed out with her kite.
"Slow down, don't rush," Li Xiangyang patiently instructed, "The kite string needs to be adjusted according to the wind."
"Okay, brother. Don't worry about it. Anyone can fly a kite."
Li Xiaohua ran and talked, and soon successfully launched the kite.
Seeing that she had succeeded, Wang Ying ran over and soon launched her kite as well.
"My golden eagle flies the highest!" Li Xiaohua proudly declared, looking up at the sky.
“No, not at all,” one of the village children retorted. “My butterfly kite is the highest.”
"They're all quite high," Li Xiangyang said with a smile, trying to smooth things over. "How high a kite flies depends on the wind and the skill of the user."
Just as the children were arguing, the sky suddenly darkened.
When Li Xiangyang looked up, he saw that the once clear sky had been covered with large patches of dark clouds, and the wind had begun to pick up.
"It's going to rain," Li Xiaoyun said worriedly. "We should pack up."
"Just a little longer," Li Xiaohua pleaded, "just five minutes."
Li Xiangyang glanced at the sky and shook his head: "No, the rain is coming too fast, we need to get back quickly."
Wang Ying had already started reeling in the kite, but because the wind was getting stronger, the kite was being pulled even more violently, and she was having some difficulty.
Li Xiangyang quickly went over to help: "Don't rush, take your time."
Just as they were frantically reeling in the line, raindrops began to fall from the sky.
At first it was just a few drops, but it quickly turned into a downpour.
"Run!" Li Xiangyang shouted, shielding Li Xiaoyun with his body.
They hurriedly packed up their kites and rushed home in the rain.
The rain intensified, so Li Xiangyang took off his coat and covered Li Xiaoyun's head with it. He then had Li Xiaohua and Wang Ying each hold a kite and follow closely behind.
By the time they reached their doorstep, they were soaked to the bone.
Upon entering the house, Li Xiaoyun immediately had everyone change into dry clothes and brewed ginger tea for everyone to drink to prevent them from catching a cold.
"Is the kite alright?" Li Xiaohua asked worriedly, looking at the kite that was soaked by the rain.
"It's alright," Li Xiangyang reassured her, "It'll be fine once it dries. We'll put it away again after the rain stops."
"This rain probably won't stop anytime soon," Li Xiaoyun said, looking out the window. "Don't worry."
The rain did indeed fall all day, and showed no signs of stopping even into the evening.
The two little girls were a little disappointed.
“Since we can’t fly kites today, I’ll tell you stories instead,” Li Xiangyang said, sitting by the oil lamp, picking up the Classic of Mountains and Seas, and opening the pages. “This book contains many wondrous legends.”
Li Xiaoyun also took out her needle and thread and sat down to listen.
The two little girls immediately perked up, sitting around Li Xiangyang with wide eyes as he told them the ancient legends of Kuafu chasing the sun and Jingwei filling the sea.
"Kua Fu was a giant who wanted to catch up with the sun, but he eventually died of thirst, and his staff turned into a peach forest..."
Li Xiangyang told the story vividly, sometimes imitating the characters' actions and sometimes changing his tone, making the two little girls laugh non-stop.
Li Xiaohua listened intently and asked curiously, "Brother, going further south, was the terrain really like that in the past? Also, since Xing Tian didn't have a head, could he still fight?"
“That’s the legend,” Li Xiangyang replied with a smile, “The creatures in mythology are naturally different from us.”
And so, the family spent a warm evening amidst the sounds of rain and stories.
The rain continued to fall the next day. The village roads had become muddy and full of puddles.
"It looks like this rain isn't going to stop anytime soon," Li Xiangyang said, looking out the window. "We'll all have to stay home for the next few days."
"What a pity, I wanted to fly a kite." Li Xiaohua said, somewhat disappointed.
"Let's wait until the rain stops before setting them off," Li Xiaoyun comforted her. "There's no rush."
“I can teach you how to play Gomoku,” Li Xiangyang suggested, “or tell you more stories.”
Wang Ying's eyes lit up: "Let's play chess! My dad taught me a little, but I'm not very good at it."
Li Xiangyang found a wooden board, drew a chessboard with charcoal, and then found some black and white pebbles to use as chess pieces.
The two little girls quickly learned the rules and had a great time.
For the next few days, it rained incessantly.
Li Xiangyang led the two little girls in making crafts, telling them stories, and teaching them to identify various plants and animals in the mountains.
Even though they were stuck indoors, everyone had a fulfilling and happy time.
On the morning of the third day, Li Xiangyang woke up earlier than usual.
He sat by the window, watching the raindrops fall outside, his brows furrowing involuntarily.
It rained for three days straight, with no sign of stopping.
The puddles that had been accumulating on the ground had now merged into one, turning the yard into almost a small pond.
Li Xiaoyun brought over a bowl of hot water, her gaze equally worried as she looked out the window: "This is terrible. It's been three days, and the rain still shows no sign of stopping."
Li Xiangyang nodded: "Yes. Although the village is located on higher ground, so there's no problem there, the crops in the low-lying areas have definitely suffered."
