Chapter 291 I'm Going to Be a Father
When she got home, Li Xiaoyun had already prepared a kettle and a clean towel.
“Be careful going up the mountain,” Li Xiaoyun cautioned. “Don’t let the children wander off.”
Li Xiangyang smiled and nodded, "Okay, we'll just play by the stream, we won't go far. You stay home and get some rest."
Li Xiaoyun hasn't been feeling well lately, so she won't be going this time.
Li Xiangyang set off with three little girls.
They walked along the path beside the village down to the foot of the mountain.
On the way, Li Xiaohua and Wang Ying held hands and skipped along, while Xiao Lan followed closely beside Li Xiangyang, occasionally reaching out to tug at his clothes.
"Uncle, what kind of bird is that?" Xiaolan asked, pointing to a small bird with brightly colored feathers on the tree.
“Those are red-billed blue magpies,” Li Xiangyang said after taking a look. “Aren’t they beautiful? They usually travel in flocks; if you see one, there are definitely others nearby.”
Xiao Lan opened her eyes wide and looked carefully at the bird, as if she wanted to remember it forever.
After walking for about half an hour, they arrived at the stream at the foot of the mountain.
The area is shaded by trees, the stream is clear, and you can occasionally see small fish swimming in the water.
"Wow! How beautiful!" Wang Ying exclaimed, squatting by the stream and gently running her fingers across the water.
Li Xiaohua had already started taking off her shoes, preparing to go into the water to catch fish.
"Don't rush," Li Xiangyang said with a smile, "Let me teach you how to make a fishing rod first."
Li Xiangyang found several willow trees of moderate thickness, made some simple repairs, tied a thin line to one end, and hung a small hook on the end of the line.
"This is the simplest fishing rod," Li Xiangyang demonstrated to the three girls. "Just find some earthworms as bait, and you can fish."
Li Xiaohua was already familiar with the process and quickly dug out several earthworms from the soil.
Wang Ying and Xiao Lan hesitated, not daring to touch those wet little things.
“It’s okay if you’re afraid to touch it,” Li Xiangyang laughed. “I’ll help you put the bait on the fish.”
Li Xiangyang prepared fishing rods for the three girls and then taught them how to fish.
“Be patient,” Li Xiangyang said. “The fish won’t bite so quickly.”
Three little girls sat by the stream, intently watching the water, afraid of missing any movement.
Li Xiangyang found a clean rock to sit on and watched over them.
A moment later, Li Xiaohua's fishing rod moved slightly.
"A fish has taken the bait!" Li Xiaohua exclaimed excitedly, and with a sudden jerk of the rod, a small fish was thrown onto the shore.
"Haha, look how good I am! I caught a fish right away!" Li Xiaohua jumped up excitedly.
Wang Ying and Xiao Lan also ran over to see, their eyes filled with envy.
"Don't rush," Li Xiangyang said with a smile, "As long as you're patient, everyone can catch a fish."
Sure enough, not long after, Xiaolan's fishing rod moved slightly.
With Li Xiangyang's help, she also caught a small fish.
"This is a crucian carp," Li Xiangyang told the girls. "It's a very common freshwater fish with delicious flesh, especially suitable for making soup."
Wang Ying looked at the small fish thoughtfully: "Should we take them back to eat?"
Li Xiangyang smiled and said, "These little fish are too small. Let's put them back and let them grow a bit more."
The three girls nodded and carefully put the fish back into the water.
Next, Li Xiangyang taught them how to catch small shrimp with their hands.
He rolled up his trousers, walked into the stream, bent down, and gently reached his hand into the crevices of the underwater rocks. In no time, he caught several translucent shrimp.
Li Xiangyang patiently taught them and reminded them from time to time to be careful not to slip.
Soon, the three girls also mastered the trick and each caught a few small shrimp.
"Uncle, look, this is the biggest one I caught!" Xiao Lan proudly showed off her spoils.
Li Xiangyang smiled and patted her head: "Great job!"
Time flew by as we played in the water and had so much fun.
The sun has risen to its zenith.
"Are you hungry?" Li Xiangyang glanced at the sky. "Come on, let's rest under that big tree over there and get something to eat."
They found a clean patch of grass and sat down.
Li Xiangyang opened the bamboo basket and took out the boiled eggs and steamed buns prepared by Li Guihua, as well as the water that Li Xiaoyun had packed.
"Eat up," Li Xiangyang said. "You must be hungry after playing for so long. After we eat, I'll take you to a nice place."
"What kind of good place?" Wang Ying asked curiously.
"See that valley over there? Lots of flowers, right? And this season, there are so many butterflies. After you finish eating, I'll take you to catch some butterflies."
The three little girls' eyes lit up, and they quickened their eating pace.
After eating and resting for a while, Li Xiangyang led them towards the valley.
Wildflowers bloom here, and butterflies flutter about.
After catching some butterflies in the valley, Li Xiangyang took them to pick some wild fruits in the afternoon.
"It's getting late," Li Xiangyang glanced at the sky, "It's time to go home."
Although the three little girls were a little reluctant to leave, they knew they had to go home before dark.
On the way home, Wang Ying excitedly said, "Brother Xiangyang, today was so much fun! I've never been so happy!"
Li Xiaohua said proudly, "My brother is amazing! He can do everything!"
Xiaolan nodded, though she didn't say anything, her eyes were full of admiration.
Li Xiangyang smiled and patted the three little girls on the head: "Tomorrow, I'll take you to play somewhere else, how about it?"
"Yes, yes!" the three girls said in unison.
Back in the village, Li Xiangyang first took Xiaolan home.
Seeing her daughter's rosy cheeks and increased energy, Li Guihua smiled brightly and asked, "How was it? Did you have fun today?"
Xiaolan nodded vigorously: "Mom, we fished, caught shrimp, and even caught butterflies! Uncle also taught us about different birds and plants!"
Li Guihua smiled at Li Xiangyang: "You've really worked hard."
Li Xiangyang waved his hand: "It's not hard work. Seeing them having fun makes me happy too."
After saying goodbye to Li Guihua and Xiao Lan, Li Xiangyang took Li Xiaohua and Wang Ying home.
Li Xiaoyun was feeding the chickens in the yard when she saw them return. She greeted them with a smile, "How was your time?"
Li Xiaohua held up a bamboo basket full of wild berries: "Happy! Sister-in-law, look, these are the wild berries we picked, they're so sweet!"
Wang Ying excitedly said, "Sister Xiaoyun, we had so much fun today! Brother Xiangyang taught us how to fish, catch shrimp, and catch butterflies, and we also learned about many plants and small animals!"
Li Xiaoyun smiled and patted Wang Ying's head: "Do you still want to go tomorrow?"
"Of course I want to!" Wang Ying said without hesitation.
After dinner, Li Xiangyang and Li Xiaoyun sat in the courtyard to enjoy the cool evening air.
The two little girls were tired from playing and went to bed early.
"How was your day with the kids?" Li Xiaoyun asked.
Li Xiangyang smiled and said, "It's great. Seeing them so happy makes me happy too. On the way back, Xiaolan held my hand tightly and said in a soft, sweet voice that today was especially fun. Xiaoyun, do you think that if we have our own children in the future, will they be as adorable as Xiaolan, with every little thing they do so sweet?"
Li Xiaoyun's lips curled up slightly, her eyes full of mockery. She lightly patted Li Xiangyang's arm and said reproachfully, "Oh, so you're really determined to have a little girl? What, don't you want a son to carry on the family line?"
Li Xiangyang took Li Xiaoyun's hand, chuckled sheepishly, scratched his head, and said expectantly, "How could that be! Our son is great too. He may be mischievous, but he's full of energy and can help me out when he grows up. As long as it's our child, boy or girl, I'll be overjoyed!"
Li Xiaoyun leaned gently on Li Xiangyang's shoulder, a shy blush rising on her face. With a mix of joy and uncertainty, she said, "Actually, I haven't been feeling very well lately, and I feel lethargic. I have a vague feeling that maybe... we really are going to have our own child."
Li Xiangyang's eyes widened instantly, and joy bloomed on his face like fireworks. He stood up abruptly, pulled her into a tight embrace, and spun around in the yard, repeatedly saying, "Great, great, I'm going to be a father!"
