Chapter 289 I'm here to pick you up
"Oh my, so lovey-dovey as soon as you get back." Wang Ergou, standing to the side, deliberately raised an eyebrow and teased, "Sister-in-law, I'm the brother standing right here, shouldn't you show some concern for me too?"
Li Xiangyang turned his head, about to speak, when he saw Ma Hongxia walking briskly over from not far away. Without saying a word, she stepped forward and grabbed Wang Ergou's ear.
"Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!" Wang Ergou grimaced, but dared not struggle. "Wife, be gentle, my ear is going to fall off!"
"How dare you say that!" Ma Hongxia said angrily. "You haven't been back for so many days, making me so worried I couldn't even eat. Now that you're back, the first thing you do isn't to see me, but to watch other couples reuniting!"
Wang Ergou chuckled sheepishly and muttered under his breath, "Well, I came back with my brothers..."
"Go home!" Without waiting for a reply, Ma Hongxia grabbed Wang Ergou's ear and started walking towards home.
Wang Ergou, being pulled along, turned back and winked at Li Xiangyang: "Let's get together again tomorrow!"
Seeing this, Li Xiaoyun couldn't help but laugh out loud: "Ma Hongxia has been really worried these past few days, coming to ask me every day if I've heard from you."
Li Xiangyang smiled and shook his head, bending down to pick up his backpack: "Let's go home. I've been thinking about taking a hot shower as soon as we get back."
Upon returning home, Li Xiangyang immediately boiled a pot of water.
While the water was boiling, he told Li Xiaoyun everything he had experienced in the mountains over the past few days.
"We've encountered a flash flood!" Li Xiaoyun's expression changed slightly as she grasped Li Xiangyang's hand. "I knew it was dangerous in the mountains, look at this..."
Li Xiangyang quickly interrupted her, "It's alright, it's alright, everyone's back safe and sound. Besides, this trip was quite fruitful; the forest farm gave us a substantial subsidy."
Li Xiaoyun shook her head, her eyes filled with worry: "Money is nothing compared to life. Promise me you'll be more careful when you go out in the future."
"Definitely, definitely." Li Xiangyang smiled and ruffled her hair. "By the way, I'm thinking of going to the city to bring Xiaohua back for a few days. She should be on summer vacation, right?"
"Yes, they should have released her." Li Xiaoyun nodded, then suddenly remembered something. "Oh right, last time I went to Uncle Wang's house, I promised Xiaoying I'd bring her to the village. Why don't we bring her along this time? She can become friends with Xiaolan from my older sister's family."
Li Xiangyang slapped his thigh: "That's a great idea! Xiaoying isn't in good health. A few days in the countryside, breathing fresh air, will be good for her."
As they were talking, the water had already boiled.
Li Xiangyang took a nice hot shower, changed into clean clothes, and felt much more refreshed.
"Ah, that feels so good!" Li Xiangyang stretched. "Those few days in the mountains were incredibly uncomfortable."
"Let's eat quickly," Li Xiaoyun said, bringing over a plate of steaming hot scrambled eggs.
After dinner, Li Xiangyang and Li Xiaoyun sat in the courtyard to enjoy the cool evening air.
The summer night breeze brushed against my face, taking away the daytime heat.
The sky was dotted with stars, and the croaking of frogs created a peaceful and idyllic rural scene.
"Tomorrow we'll go to the city and bring Xiaohua and Xiaoying back," Li Xiangyang said softly, gazing at the starry sky.
"Okay," Li Xiaoyun leaned on his shoulder, "and while I'm at it, ask Mom when she's going to rest. If she can get some time off, she can come back and stay with us for a few days."
“I doubt it. After all, Mom just started working. Let’s ask her first.” Li Xiangyang nodded.
The next morning, Li Xiangyang and Li Xiaoyun packed their things and rode their bicycles to the county town.
The two chatted and laughed, and before they knew it, they had arrived in the county town.
The county town was much more lively than the village, with people coming and going on the streets and vendors calling out their wares.
The two first went to the house that Li Xiangyang had bought in the city, where Li's mother and Li Xiaohua were busy at home.
"Mom, Xiaohua, we're here!" Li Xiangyang called out as soon as he entered the door.
"Brother!" Li Xiaohua put down her work, rushed over, and hugged Li Xiangyang around the waist. "Why are you here? You didn't even tell me beforehand."
"I just wanted to surprise you." Li Xiangyang touched his younger sister's hair and noticed she had grown quite a bit taller. "Xiaohua, have you grown taller again recently?"
"Yeah, right," Li Xiaohua proudly tilted her head back, "none of the boys in the class are as tall as me!"
Li's mother came out of the kitchen, saw her son, and a relieved smile spread across her face: "You're here! Come in and sit down. Don't rush off this time; let's have a good get-together."
“Mom, we’re totally on the same wavelength. I came here this time to take Xiaohua back to stay with you for a few days,” Li Xiangyang said with a smile.
"I won't go. I'm busy at the Agriculture Bureau these days and can't get away. You guys take Xiaohua instead; it's not good for the child to be cooped up in the city all the time. I'll go back by myself in a couple of days when I'm less busy."
Li's mother sighed and patted Li Xiangyang's hand as she spoke.
“Okay,” Li Xiangyang nodded, then turned to his younger sister, “Xiaohua, pack your things, we need to pick up Xiaoying later.”
"Xiaoying's going too?" Li Xiaohua's eyes lit up. "That's great! I was just thinking of asking her to play during summer vacation."
Li Xiaohua quickly packed her clothes into a small bundle.
Li's mother gave her some more food.
After saying goodbye to Li's mother, the three drove to Wang Jingyun's house.
When he arrived at the door, Li Xiangyang knocked, and the door opened quickly.
"Brother Xiangyang! Sister Li! Xiaohua! What brings you here?"
Upon seeing the group, Wang Ying exclaimed in delight, her eyes instantly lighting up.
"Didn't we promise to take you to the village for a few days when you had your vacation?" Li Xiaoyun said with a smile, "We've come to pick you up."
Wang Ying's eyes sparkled with anticipation: "Really? Can I go?"
“Of course,” Li Xiangyang nodded. “Let’s go talk to your dad right now.”
"Let's go, let's go!" Wang Ying said, turning around and calling out, "Dad, Xiangyang and the others are here to pick me up!"
Wang Jingyun came out of the inner room and, upon seeing Li Xiangyang, greeted him with a warm smile: "Xiangyang, you've come at the right time. I was just about to look for you."
"Oh?" Li Xiangyang asked, somewhat puzzled. "Uncle Wang, is there something you need?"
"It's nothing serious," Wang Jingyun waved his hand. "The county is just planning a teacher training course and they'd like to invite you to give a lecture on wilderness survival. I think you're quite suitable, so I recommended you."
Li Xiangyang was slightly surprised: "Me? Teach wilderness survival?"
“What’s so strange about that?” Wang Jingyun laughed. “You’ve been hunting in the mountains for so many years, you’re very experienced. Schools are increasingly emphasizing practical education these days, and this knowledge will be very helpful to the children.”
“Okay,” Li Xiangyang nodded, “when do we start?”
"Next month, I'll let you know the exact time later," Wang Jingyun said, turning to her daughter, "Xiaoying, pack your things."
Wang Ying responded cheerfully and quickly ran back to her room to pack her luggage.
"How has Xiaoying been feeling lately?" Li Xiaoyun asked with concern.
“It’s much better than before,” Wang Jingyun said with a relieved look. “I can’t cook, and my child suffered a lot with me before, but since Sister Lin moved here, Xiaoying eats there all the time. She’s eating well, so her health has naturally improved.”
Soon, Wang Ying came out carrying a small bundle, her face beaming with undisguised excitement.
"Dad, I'm leaving!" Wang Ying tiptoed and kissed her father's face.
Wang Jingyun stroked his daughter's hair: "Be good, stay at Xiangyang's house and don't cause them any trouble."
“Yes!” Wang Ying nodded vigorously.
After saying goodbye to Wang Jingyun, the four of them embarked on their journey back to Xiaoliang Village.
On the way, the two little girls chattered incessantly.
Li Xiangyang and Li Xiaoyun rode in front, listening to the laughter coming from behind, their hearts filled with warmth.
