Chapter 227 Jackals Enter the Village
Chapter 227 Jackals Enter the Village
Early in the morning, there were already sporadic footsteps in the corridor of the guesthouse.
"Get up, it's time to pack your things." Li Xiangyang gently nudged his still-sleeping wife.
Li Xiaoyun rubbed her eyes and sat up: "What time is it?"
"Six-thirty," Li Xiangyang said with a smile, "the train departs at eight, so we need to get to the station early."
Li Xiaohua's voice came from the next room: "Brother, sister-in-law, Mom and I are all ready!"
Li Xiangyang and Li Xiaoyun quickly got up, washed up, and packed their luggage.
When they left, Mr. and Mrs. Li were already waiting in the corridor.
"Dad, Mom," Li Xiangyang said apologetically, "I'm sorry to have made you get up so early to see us off."
"Silly child," Mother Li said with a smile, "this is only right."
The group took two tricycles straight to the train station.
The train whistle sounded, and it slowly started moving.
It was already afternoon when we arrived at the town's train station.
After sending his mother and sister back to their home in the city, Li Xiangyang and Li Xiaoyun set off on their journey back to the village.
It was afternoon when we returned to the village. The setting sun cast a golden glow on the dirt road.
Pushing open the courtyard gate, the crabapple blossoms in the yard were in full bloom.
"Are you tired?" Li Xiangyang asked, looking at his wife's slightly weary face.
Li Xiaoyun shook her head: "I'm not tired, I just want to take a shower."
"Then I'll go boil some water for you." Li Xiangyang turned and walked towards the kitchen.
When Li Xiaoyun came out after taking a shower, Li Xiangyang had already prepared dinner.
As night deepened, only the chirping of crickets remained in the courtyard.
After taking a shower, Li Xiangyang couldn't wait to pick up his wife and carry her back to the room, gently placing her on the bed.
"Why is this happening?" Li Xiaoyun's face turned as red as a ripe apple.
"We're newlyweds, how can we not do this?" Li Xiangyang leaned down and kissed his wife's lips.
They've been busy with wedding preparations these past few days, and apart from the first night, the two haven't had a proper intimate moment. It's truly remarkable that Li Xiangyang has managed to endure this long.
He gently held his wife's earlobe in his mouth, his large hand stroking her back, feeling her softness.
"Xiangyang..." Li Xiaoyun's voice was as soft as a mosquito's buzz, but her hands unconsciously wrapped around her husband's neck.
"What did you call me?" Li Xiangyang teased her deliberately, but his hands didn't stop moving.
"Ugh, honey..." Li Xiaoyun buried her face in his chest, her ears turning bright red.
"My good wife..." Li Xiangyang rolled over and pinned her down, his hot breath spraying onto her neck.
Li Xiaoyun closed her eyes shyly, but leaned closer to him.
Li Xiangyang felt a surge of heat welling up from the bottom of his heart, and he could no longer control his emotions.
"Xiaoyun, I love you..." he whispered, kissing his wife's lips.
Li Xiaoyun gasped softly, her arms tightly wrapped around her husband's neck.
She could feel the intense heat emanating from Li Xiangyang, a heat that intoxicated her.
"Husband..." her voice trembled, "I...I love you too..."
Li Xiangyang's kisses landed softly on her cheeks and neck, each one sending shivers down her spine.
She never imagined that she would be so captivated by a man's embrace.
Li Xiaoyun felt as if she were floating on clouds, and the whole world was spinning.
She could only cling tightly to her husband's strong shoulders, sinking into his rhythm.
After an unknown amount of time, Li Xiaoyun gently leaned against her husband's chest, her face still flushed.
Li Xiangyang gently stroked her hair with his large hand, "Are you tired?"
Li Xiaoyun nodded and buried her face in his chest: "Tired..."
Her voice still carried a hint of coquettishness.
Looking at his charming wife, Li Xiangyang's heart was aroused again. Just as he was about to start another round, a commotion suddenly broke out outside.
Upon hearing this voice, Li Xiaoyun shyly pushed him away.
Originally, he didn't want to care about what was happening outside, but seeing his wife's bad expression, Li Xiangyang reluctantly stopped what he was doing and sat up from the bed.
Li Xiaoyun quickly straightened her disheveled clothes, her face still flushed.
"I don't know what happened. You should go out and check it out. I'm yours now. We'll talk about it tomorrow night. You can do whatever you want then..."
Seeing her husband's displeasure, why did Li Xiaoyun try to comfort him?
Upon hearing this, Li Xiangyang's displeasure vanished instantly.
He got dressed before going out.
Outside, there was a great commotion. Pushing open the door, I saw the village men carrying torches and running around at the village entrance.
"Uncle Qingzi, what's wrong?" Li Xiangyang called out to a villager who was running by.
"This is terrible!" Uncle Qingzi said breathlessly, "A pack of jackals has sneaked into the village and is ravaging the production team's livestock. These beasts are incredibly bold; even with so many of us shouting, they don't seem afraid at all!"
"Jackals?" Li Xiangyang frowned. "How many?"
"At least twenty or thirty!" Uncle Qingzi said. "They're all over by the livestock shed. These beasts are fiercer than wolves; once they bite a cow's leg, they won't let go. Several cows have already suffered!"
Just then, another series of animal screams rang out.
“Husband…” Li Xiaoyun worriedly grabbed her husband’s hand.
"You stay home, I'll go get the gun." Li Xiangyang turned and walked into the house.
"Be careful," Li Xiaoyun cautioned.
Li Xiangyang took the Type 63 automatic rifle off the wall and then put two magazines in his pocket.
"Don't worry, I'll be right back." He kissed his wife lightly on the cheek and strode off toward the livestock shed.
In the darkness, he could vaguely see a group of dark figures darting around in the livestock shed, their fangs illuminated by the torchlight.
Whether they were starving or insane, these jackals dared to break into the village and injure the livestock.
What alarmed Li Xiangyang even more was that these jackals were not afraid of people at all.
The villagers waved torches and shouted, but the beasts didn't even raise their heads, only concerned with tearing at the animals.
Li Xiangyang rushed to the livestock shed, only to find that the situation was far more serious than he had imagined.
The pack of jackals worked together seamlessly, their movements not at all like the indiscriminate biting and tearing caused by hunger, but rather a well-organized and disciplined encirclement and suppression.
Several smaller jackals were on guard around the perimeter, baring their teeth and growling as they saw villagers approaching, driving away onlookers.
A dozen or so strong jackals worked together to deal with the livestock. Some bit the cow's legs and wouldn't let go, while others seized the opportunity to pounce on the cow's neck. Even when they were overturned, they continued to attack relentlessly in turns.
What's most alarming is that even when villagers try to drive them away with torches, stones, and sticks, they only flinch slightly and stand in confrontation with the people.
"These bastards are too monstrous!" Wang Ergou, who had arrived unnoticed, gripped a gun. "This stunt is even more troublesome than a pack of wolves!"
This is true.
When wolves hunt, they often retreat temporarily when they encounter strong resistance, and then launch an attack when the target is exhausted.
But these jackals didn't care about tactics at all; they just relentlessly pursued and attacked, using the most primitive and effective methods to wear down their prey.
"boom!"
Wang Ergou couldn't stand it any longer and fired a shot. A jackal that was tearing at a cow's leg fell to the ground.
However, this shot did not scare away the other jackals; instead, it aroused their ferocity.
Several large jackals howled to the sky, and then the entire jackal pack erupted in a chorus of howls.
"Not good!" Li Xiangyang's expression changed. "They're about to launch a fierce counterattack! Don't panic! Everyone, gather close together, back to back, in a circle!"
