Chapter 2250: More and more
Chapter 2250: More and more
"Your holiness, there are more and more sightings of the Black Tide."
"Your holiness, please take a look at these Apostle attacks.
"Your holiness, please give your orders."
When the one being called ’your holiness’ turned around, he just narrowed his eyes to look at the ones that were reporting to him and said, "Go and send the heroes, don’t you already know what you’re supposed to do?"
The messengers all revealed bitter looks when they heard this.
Indeed, they knew what the normal response would have been.
It was just that the problem was greater than what could have been handled with the normal response. If it wasn’t for this, then they wouldn’t have come here to be yelled at by the pope.
But since he had said this, there was nothing else that they could do other than to follow protocol.
Only before they could leave, the pope suddenly called out to one of them.
"Bring over those reports on the Apostles."
Hearing this, the messenger’s face filled with joy while the other messengers looked like they were filled with despair. They looked at that one messenger that was chosen as if they were saying, "Why you?"
The messenger naturally didn’t know why he had been called either, but that didn’t stop him from smugly looking at the rest of them.
However, he was also sent away after handing the reports over.
Before being sent away, he did receive instructions.
"Bring the head of the Executioners over."
It didn’t take long for the one the pope called to arrive.
When he did, he said, "So you’re finally looking for me. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen each other, Percival."
There was no respectful tone in his voice.
The way that he said this was almost as if he was challenging the pope to a fight.
However, the pope didn’t really care about the way that the head of Executioners spoke to him since he was already used to this. Instead, he just waved his hand at him and said, "Come over here and see this, Ikki."
These two had once been known as the top heroes, but now they were old men who had lived their lives for the sake of humanity. Now, they have reached the top positions among the Heroes Association.
Even if the Heroes Association was no longer the same as before.
The current Heroes Association was better known as a religion and the leader of that religion was naturally the pope, which was the position that Percival took.
The head of the Executioners was in charge of taking care of heretics and the Black Tide, which was the position that Ikki took.
For the two of them to meet, one could expect something big to happen.
But this time, they were meeting because of a personal matter.
After Ikki saw the report, he couldn’t help deeply knitting his brows.
After a long moment of silence, he finally asked, "Is it really him?"
Percival just gave a small nod to confirm this.
Ikki’s eyes seemed to drift off as if he was thinking about something.
What came to mind was this village that they had visited a long time ago.
That was the place where they hadn’t been able to save that one kid and had let him fall to the grasps of the Black Tide.
Over the years, they had tried to find that kid and bring him back to the side of humanity, but it wasn’t as if that was easy. Even if they wanted to do it, it wasn’t as if that kid was willing to listen to them.
As time passed, that kid grew and was no longer the same kid as before.
At the same time, he started fading away from the public eye as more and more Apostles appeared.
That kid had been the first one, but he hadn’t been the last one.
The Black Tide had figured out how to change one human, so it was only natural that it would draw in more and more humans. As more and more of these Apostles appeared, that kid had appeared less.
The last time that kid had appeared was ten years ago...
But even so, both Percival and Ikki never forgot him for different reasons.
Percival regretted not taking that kid down when he had the chance.
Ikki regretted that he had never been able to save that kid even though he made a promise.
"It seems like we’ll have to take care of this ourselves." Ikki said in a determined voice.
Percival didn’t say anything at first, but eventually he gave a nod as well.
If others were to hear this, there was no doubt that they would have done everything that they could to stop these two. After all, the pope and the head of the Executioners were both important people.
Not just for the Heroes Association, they had a high position among all of humanity.
They were the leaders that had helped protect all of humanity against the Black Tide.
If something were to happen to them...
But there was no stopping Ikki or Percival now.
After thinking about it, Ikki and Percival both seemed to come to some kind of agreement.
"We still have to contact them and bring them along as well. We’re not the only ones that this started with, they have a right to settle this as well."
Though there was some hesitation when they came to this decision, they still came to this decision in the end.
In a firm voice, Percival said, "This is where we end this once and for all."
Ikki gave a nod, but there was a trace of hesitation that was in his eyes.
After all, he didn’t know what exactly it was that he wanted anymore.
After all this time, it wasn’t as if he could keep deluding himself into thinking that kid could be saved.
With everything that had happened, it really was too late for him to do anything to help him.
