Chapter 274: Setting off to war
"Hmmm." Three days later, outside the Blood Serpent Clan’s main gate, two individuals stood with a set of luggage and a look of calm on their faces.
"He’s taking too long," one of the men, an average-sized young man with blonde hair and a pale face, said as he looked up at the sky. The original plan was to set off from BloodRock City before the sun rose, but now they had been standing out here for nearly an hour, and it was starting to get bright.
He wanted to get this over with as fast as possible; being around Kang for too long made him feel a bit overwhelmed and tired.
"We will wait a bit longer," Kang said calmly and with authority. Unlike before, he didn’t radiate the overbearing aura that imposed on others. Rather, his aura was filled with majesty and accomplishment.
He had previously been in a state of mind where he thought he deserved respect and wasn’t given any, but now? He knew for a fact that he was to be respected, so there was no need to force it.
He had completely changed.
As they stood there waiting, a slight tremor began to echo from down the streets.
*Doom doom doom.*
It was a steady tempo that kept increasing in volume as it seemed to draw closer by the minute.
Soon, a line of heavily armed troops appeared on the horizon, moving in their direction. These men were armed to the teeth. They had high-quality spears forged from the purest ores, and their mounts were as sturdy as rocks. Their armor glittered with strange runic symbols, unfamiliar even to Kang.
In fact, this was a troop of extremely high caliber, even amongst the men of the Blood Serpent Clan. And therein lay the problem: there was no such troop in the Blood Serpent Clan, nor any like it in BloodRock City.
Where did these guys come from, and why were they approaching the gates of the Blood Serpent Clan?
"Was this a revolt?" The blonde-haired youth raised his eyebrows in confusion.
"Hmm, have you heard of the individual called the Crimson Raider?" Kang posed a question to the young blonde male out of nowhere.
This was a secret mission. He could understand Leon’s eagerness to go to war—after all, this was what the warlocks all over the sacred lands wanted: to kill mages and hunt them down. But Leon had to see the bigger picture.
"Ah, not at all. The main troop has been deployed on a totally different route. These are just reserves." Leon smiled at Kang.
He was no fool; he understood that there were people out to get them, like the Golden Griffin Clan and its allies. They couldn’t let themselves be spotted on this trip, especially with Quvera in tow.
That was why he brought these men. Just as he knew this was too flashy of a show, the enemy would understand that too.
They would probably focus on a more inconspicuous group than this flashy one.
"Okay." Kang nodded with no objections, then proceeded to climb atop a nearby carriage and set off.
"Forward march," one of the warriors in Leon’s troop stepped forward and commanded. Soon, they resumed their march through BloodRock City.
"Look, the Blood Serpent Clan is sending more troops for the war!" a random passerby pointed out.
"Yes, bring back some mage slaves!" another echoed.
"May the City Lord be with you!"
The sight of the troop of over five hundred men walking toward the city exit thrilled the crowd. Their people had been hunted down by mages for years; now it was their turn to do the hunting.
Meanwhile,
"Hurry up, they’re leaving already!" Arian said in a grumpy tone to Ember.
"Okay, okay, we’re coming," Ember grumbled as she and a brunette in heavy armor rode toward them slowly.
