Chapter 814 Long Silence
Chapter 814 Long Silence
Chiyo remained silent for a long time, her gaze shifting complexly between the Third Kazekage and Sasori. Finally, she took a deep breath, bowed to the Third Kazekage, and pleaded, "Kagayakage-sama, I request... to join the Zero Organization."
Upon hearing this, the Third Kazekage's eyes flashed with surprise, clearly not expecting Chiyo to make such a request. But he quickly understood Chiyo's thoughts. She was doing it for Sasori, to continue protecting her grandson.
However, a hint of hesitation appeared on the Third Kazekage's face. He slowly said, "Chiyo, Sasori has grown up. He has his own path to walk and doesn't need your excessive interference. I'm worried that your emotional actions might affect the organization's plans." He paused, then added, "I need to... consider your request."
Chiyo felt a little disappointed upon hearing this, but she understood the Kazekage's concerns. She nodded respectfully and said, "I understand, Kazekage. I will await your decision."
The Third Kazekage nodded, then changed the subject: "Now, report to me on the battle with Konoha."
Chiyo immediately composed herself and solemnly began to explain in detail the battle between Sunagakure and Konoha, including troop deployment, battlefield situation, and the latest intelligence.
However, Chiyo didn't realize that both the Third Kazekage and Sasori standing behind him had remarkably similar expressions. Their calm, profound gazes and the faint curve of their lips exuded an indescribable eeriness.
As Chiyo's explanation drew to a close, the Third Kazekage's eyes suddenly flickered; he seemed to have sensed something.
"Chiyo, go and open the village's barrier. Someone's coming," the Third Kazekage calmly instructed.
Although Chiyo had her doubts, she dared not disobey the Kazekage's orders in the slightest, and immediately bowed and replied, "Yes, Kazekage-sama."
Sasori, with a meaningful smile, followed Chiyo out of the room. Seeing the rare smile on Sasori's face, Chiyo felt a surge of relief. She assumed Sasori was happy because she had asked to join the organization, and therefore didn't think much of the strange smile on his face.
As Chiyo reached the edge of the village and activated the barrier, she saw a familiar puppet eagle hurtling towards the village from the distant desert. She immediately recognized it as the puppet used by Kurotsuchi, and a surge of surprise washed over her—Kurotsuchi had come!
The puppet eagle slowly descended at the entrance to the barrier of Sunagakure. Zhang Hai and Kakuzu jumped off the puppet, both wearing masks that completely covered their faces.
After landing, Zhang Hai quietly activated the puppet mark that Scorpion had given him, as a signal to inform him in advance.
He saw that the Third Kazekage and Sasori had come out to greet him at the same time, and that Chiyo showed no sign of making a move, which relieved him. It seemed that Sasori had successfully calmed Chiyo down.
Zhang Hai stepped forward first and greeted Chiyo, "Elder Chiyo, it's nice to see you again."
Despite the Third Kazekage's words, Chiyo still harbored reservations about Zhang Hai's complex identity. She knew Zhang Hai was one of the Kazekage's men and had no intention of killing, but she still found it difficult to feel any goodwill towards an Uchiha ninja who had once betrayed Konoha.
"Hmm." Chiyo responded coldly, her tone carrying a hint of distance.
However, Scorpion completely disregarded Chiyo's attitude, stepped forward, and gently hugged Zhang Hai.
"Brother Black Soil, it's been a long time." Scorpion's voice carried a hint of joy at a long-awaited reunion, as well as a tacit understanding that only the two of them could comprehend.
Zhang Hai patted Scorpion on the shoulder with a gentle smile on his face: "Little Scorpion, how have you been lately? Have you made any new discoveries?" He knew that Scorpion understood that he was referring to the progress in controlling the dragon vein.
Scorpion's eyes lit up instantly, and he almost jumped up excitedly: "Brother Kurotsuchi! You've come at the perfect time! I was just about to show you my latest achievement! I've made a new breakthrough in the use of Dragon Vein Chakra, and the performance of those puppets..." He couldn't wait to drag Zhang Hai to his puppet research base, completely ignoring Chiyo and Kakuzu standing to the side.
Zhang Hai quickly called out to him, "Wait, Sasori!" He took out a set of exquisite fishing gear from his pocket, his face showing a hint of apology. "I'll go see my teacher first. Also, this is Hercules." He pointed to Kakuzu beside him and then said to Sasori, "He wants to join Sunagakure, so the Kazekage needs to arrange a suitable identity for him."
Sasori then realized what was happening and nodded, "Okay, I understand. I'll take Hercules to see Lord Kazekage first." With that, he turned and left with Kakuzu, heading towards the Kazekage's office.
After Sasori and Kakuzu had gone some distance, Zhang Hai turned to Chiyo, a questioning look on his face: "Elder Chiyo, is Master Ebizo in the village?"
Chiyo's expression softened slightly as she looked at the fishing gear in Zhang Hai's hands. She nodded, "Yes, Elder Hai is hiding at home. Come with me." With that, she turned and walked ahead, leading Zhang Hai through the streets of Sunagakure.
Sunagakure Village is located in the desert, where water resources are extremely scarce. However, Chiyo and Ebizo have taken a unique approach by creating a small pond in their home, specifically for enjoying fishing.
When Zhang Hai followed Chiyo into the house, he saw Ebizo sitting by the pond, holding a fishing rod, his head nodding, clearly dozing off.
"The teacher is actually fishing at home..." Zhang Hai couldn't help but chuckle at the sight. He really couldn't understand what was so enjoyable about fishing, which required extreme patience.
Chiyo walked to Ebizo's side and gently called his name a few times, but Ebizo only groaned twice and showed no signs of waking up. Chiyo shook her head helplessly, then suddenly shouted, "The fish has taken the bait!"
Ebizo jolted awake, his hand jerking as if by reflex, and jerked the fishing rod in his hand. However, the hook was empty; there was no sign of a fish at all.
Ebizo looked at Chiyo's smiling face with a resentful expression, about to complain, when he suddenly saw Zhang Hai standing next to Chiyo. He was taken aback at first, feeling that the young man in front of him who had taken off his mask looked familiar, but he couldn't remember who he was for a moment.
Zhang Hai stepped forward with a smile and respectfully greeted Hai Laozang: "Teacher, it's been a long time." As he spoke, he handed over the fishing gear in his hand, "This is the fishing gear I specially prepared for you. I hope you like it."
Upon hearing Zhang Hai call him "Teacher," Ebizo was jolted awake as if struck by lightning. Trembling, he took the fishing gear, his eyes filled with disbelief. He carefully examined Zhang Hai's face and finally recognized the familiar yet unfamiliar young man before him.
