Chapter 673 Black Soil Brother
Chapter 673 Black Soil Brother
Upon entering the cave, a strong smell of sand and engine oil assaulted the senses. Inside, the cave was filled with various puppet parts and experimental equipment. In the center of this chaotic scene, a figure shrouded in a black robe stood with his back to the attacker, seemingly studying something.
"Brother Heitu!"
A voice filled with surprise and joy rang out, and the person turned around abruptly. It was Sasori of the Red Sand.
Scorpion's puppet eyes, however, shone with an unusually bright light—a joy emanating from the depths of his soul. Without the slightest hesitation, he charged directly at Zhang Hai; the puppet's body now seemed to possess human emotions.
As Zhang Hai watched the scorpion rush towards him, a warm feeling of reunion welled up in his heart. He opened his arms and welcomed the scorpion's embrace. The two illusory souls embraced each other tightly in a special way.
"You finally came!" Scorpion's voice trembled slightly as he hugged Zhang Hai tightly, as if trying to meld him into his own body. "I thought you'd forgotten about me!"
"How could that be?" Zhang Hai replied softly, patting Scorpion on the back. "I have never forgotten the promise between us." A complex emotion welled up in his heart.
Scorpion released Zhang Hai, a relieved smile on his face. "I knew you'd come, Brother Black Earth. Sure enough, you still remember our promise."
Looking at Scorpion's slightly pale face, Zhang Hai felt an indescribable sense of guilt welling up inside him. He knew that a large part of the reason Scorpion was so obsessed with puppetry was because his parents had died at the hands of Konoha's White Fang. And Konoha's White Fang was the teacher of the original owner of Zhang Hai's body in this life. Although he wasn't the real Kurotsuchi, this cause and effect still weighed heavily on his mind.
“Scorpion…” Zhang Hai was about to say something when Scorpion suddenly interrupted him.
"Brother Black Soil, are you still in the Land of Fire?" Scorpion's eyes held a hint of expectation, as if he hoped that Zhang Hai could continue to be with him.
Upon hearing this, Zhang Hai sighed softly. He knew that some things could not be hidden.
“Scorpion, there are some things I must tell you.” Zhang Hai’s voice became serious. He looked at Scorpion frankly and said, word by word, “I am now a Konoha ninja.”
Upon hearing this, the puppet's body trembled violently, a look of disbelief flashing in its eyes. A Konoha ninja? Kurotsuchi had actually become a Konoha ninja? This was undoubtedly a huge shock to him.
"Konoha..." Sasori's tone was tinged with bitterness, but quickly, his eyes were filled with intense hatred. "Then... have you seen Konoha's White Fang?" he asked, his voice dripping with gnashing hatred. That man was the enemy who took his parents away, the root of all his suffering.
Looking into the deep-seated hatred in Scorpion's eyes, Zhang Hai felt even heavier in his heart. He knew that he would have to face this problem sooner or later.
“Sasori, the White Fang of Konoha… he’s dead.” Zhang Hai’s voice was low and calm as he told Sasori this cruel truth. “He committed suicide three years ago.”
Sasori's body stiffened again. His puppet eyes, which had been filled with hatred, were now empty and unfocused. Was Konoha's White Fang dead? Had he committed suicide?
Countless days and nights flashed through his mind, filled with fantasies of how to kill his enemy and make Konoha's White Fang pay the price. He had transformed himself into a puppet and embarked on this lonely and dark path for revenge. And now, his enemy was dead?
“Dead…” Scorpion murmured to himself, his voice filled with confusion, as if he had lost all support. “Dead? Hate… what does it matter? He’s already dead…” The hatred in his heart had become aimless, like an arrow that had lost its target, circling aimlessly in the air.
Scorpion's words, "What good is hatred? He's already dead..." were like barbed hooks, piercing deep into Zhang Hai's soul. He looked into Scorpion's empty, puppet-like eyes, feeling the bewilderment and despair deep within him. This pain of hatred without a target was even more tormenting than hatred itself.
Zhang Hai gently patted Scorpion's shoulder, his voice low and powerful, trying to pull him out of his confusion. "Scorpion, on the battlefield, life and death are not in your own hands. Your parents died in the war, killed by orders without gunfire." Zhang Hai's tone was tinged with sorrow; he knew that the cruelty of war often masked the true culprits. "The one you should truly hate isn't someone who's already dead, but the one who truly caused your parents to leave, the one who separated you from your family."
Scorpion's body trembled slightly, and a flicker of fire seemed to rekindle in his empty eyes. "The one who made my parents leave..." he murmured to himself, the image of that dignified yet indifferent figure appearing in his mind.
"It's him!" Sasori suddenly raised his head, the hatred in his eyes like a flame that had been ignited, instantly becoming scorching and frenzied. "It's the Third Kazekage! It's his negligence! It's his command error! If it weren't for him, my parents wouldn't have died on the battlefield! He deserves to die!" Sasori's tone was full of resentment. The hatred that had been aimless had finally found a new target, and it was so clear and definite.
Looking into Scorpion's eyes, now filled with renewed hatred, Zhang Hai felt a mix of emotions. He knew that this might be Scorpion's true liberation, transferring his hatred onto the person truly responsible. But he also realized that Scorpion's path was destined to be even more dangerous.
“Scorpion, I didn’t tell you before that my current identity is…” Zhang Hai took a deep breath and emphasized again, “I belong to Konoha. Although I am not bound by the so-called identity of a ninja, my actions may still involve Konoha.” He hoped that Scorpion could understand this and make a more sensible judgment.
When Scorpion heard Zhang Hai mention Konoha again, a complex emotion flashed in his eyes, but his hatred for the Third Kazekage had already surpassed everything else. He no longer dwelled on Zhang Hai's identity, but instead turned to look at Zhang Hai and asked, "Brother Kurotsuchi, you asked me what my plans are? What do you think I should do?"
Looking into Scorpion's bloodshot puppet eyes, Zhang Hai understood. He knew Scorpion was waiting for his advice, and he also knew that deep down, Scorpion already had his own plans.
"What are your plans?" Zhang Hai asked in return, wanting to hear Scorpion's truest thoughts.
Without the slightest hesitation, Sasori said with a resolute tone, "I plan to leave Sunagakure."
