Chapter 1967 Alcohol Poisoning, the Clues Gone Cold
Tang Shuang fumbled around in her pocket for a while, then pulled out a USB drive and handed it over, whispering like a thief, "They thought it was with Yan Jiu, but it's actually been with me all along." Bai Shanshan and Yan Jiu were the two leaders of the laboratory, and the other party always thought she was Bai Shuangshuang's little follower, never expecting that the experimental results would end up with her instead.
Zhang Ran reached out and took it, casually stuffing it into her pocket. "After you finish eating, don't go back. Go straight to my house." They couldn't go back to pack their things, lest something unexpected happen.
Having known each other for several years, Tang Shuang and Bai Shanshan had never been to Zhang Ran's house before. Upon hearing this, they were both excited and happy, but then they thought of Yan Jiu and worried that something might happen to him at the hospital.
"I'll send someone to protect Yan Jiu here." Zhang Ran took out her phone and called Xie Wei, asking him to go to the hospital to protect Yan Jiu. She then texted Qiu Yu, asking her to take a lawyer to the police station to investigate the driver who caused the accident.
She wanted to see which reckless person dared to bribe the driver and sabotage her people.
Seeing Zhang Ran's methodical arrangements, Bai Shanshan and Tang Shuang felt much relieved. These past few days, they had been living in fear and had lost their appetite; now that they were at ease, they naturally regained their appetite.
After dinner, Zhang Ran instructed her bodyguards to take Bai Shanshan and Tang Shuang to the manor first, while she took Dong Chan to the hospital.
When I arrived at the hospital, I saw Xie Wei and his men guarding the door of the intensive care unit.
"Boss." Xie Wei stepped forward and bowed his head to Zhang Ran.
Zhang Ran glanced at him indifferently, "Didn't I tell you to call me A Ran when we're out together?" Xie Wei is her boyfriend in name only now.
Xie Wei: "...Yes." He thought his boss had forgotten about her boyfriend, but he didn't expect her to still remember. In the six months since Zhang Ran left, he had contacted Er Ya once, wanting to get back together, but was rejected, so he never went to see her again.
After changing into sterile clothing, Zhang Ran went into the intensive care unit to visit Yan Jiu. He was covered in a bunch of instruments, and his lips were dry and cracked. She picked up a cotton swab, moistened it with water, and gently moistened his lips.
A dozen minutes later, Zhang Ran came out of the intensive care unit and instructed Xie Wei: "Yan Jiu's car accident was deliberate. Go and arrange for his transfer to another hospital." This was to prevent medical staff from being bribed and harming Yan Jiu again.
"Yes." Xie Wei turned around to complete the discharge procedures.
Half an hour later, Yan Jiu was transferred to the intensive care unit of another hospital.
After leaving the hospital, Zhang Ran took a car home. Suddenly, her phone rang. She took it out and saw that it was Qiu Yu calling.
"Boss, the driver who caused the accident died at home. The preliminary forensic examination indicated alcohol poisoning. The trail has gone cold."
Murder to silence them? Zhang Ran narrowed her eyes slightly. That was fast enough. "Come back. No need to investigate anymore."
"Ok?"
"The other party acted swiftly and cleanly, erasing all traces long ago. There's no need to investigate openly; let the police handle it. Meanwhile, we'll secretly send people to monitor the driver's family." A fox will always show its tail eventually.
Back at the manor, Zhang Ran told Bai Shanshan and Tang Shuang about the driver who caused the accident and died from alcohol poisoning.
Standing beside her was Qiu Yu, who had returned to the manor before her.
Tang Shuang was agitated: "How could it be such a coincidence that he drank himself to death? He must have been paid to do someone a favor and was silenced."
Bai Shanshan nodded in agreement.
“The police can’t find any evidence, and you’re just making wild guesses.” Zhang Ran sat down on the sofa. “The driver who caused the accident is dead. If we can’t find evidence that he was bribed, this car accident will just be classified as an accident and the matter will be closed.”
Since the other party bribed the driver who caused the accident, they wouldn't have used a bank account to leave any obvious evidence. They most likely gave him cash, killed him to cover it up, and then took the money back. The police couldn't find any evidence, so the case was closed.
